  1. I never knew there was a shortcut.exe. hehe If I ever saw that in my Task Manager I would have to kill it.
  2. Can you enable or disable the Wireless interface trough your bios before going into Windows. Whichever way it is now, try & switch it. If it is PCMCIA or USB just remove it. That may help get you into Add/Remove programs... If the problem is at startup and not logon maybe you can somehow disable the wireless services from a command prompt but I do not know how.

    Iis Windows Xp

The security tab might not also be present if the file is on a server. Do you have Sharing options or just General & Customize when you do properties on the folder? You might need to add that user to the user database on the server machine or join the domain.

    Sp2 Issue

The following command will disable the firewall. netsh firewall set opmode disable You can create a batch file with that line in it your users have admin access. You can have them run it after reboot or put it in their logon script. There is a registry entry you could set instead before the install but I am not familiar with that method.
  5. Do you run Automatic update or manual update for Windows? If you do automatic updates you will never get updated drivers. You can try going to http://windowsupdate.com and Download any driver updates that are available. Other than that try updating DirectX or you have some faulty hardware and might want to run diags if you can. Most likely it's a hardware problem though.
  6. Are you running SCSI or SATA for mirroring? What kind of interface card are you using and what software to configure it?
  7. You could try asking the person.
  8. Is there a numerical Windows Update error code? There should be one of those. A quick thing to check is that your time/date is right. This will make Windows Update fail. There is a number error code that identifies this problem though. Do you already have SP1 installed but don't have the cd anymore? You could try this. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=822798
  9. I believe this is the registry key you need. Copy the following into a .reg file and double click. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Send To] @="{7BA4C740-9E81-11CF-99D3-00AA004AE837}"
  10. I know of no way as well but maybe you could go through explorer (my computer) to c:\Documents & Settings\username\Start Menu and create the folder and hold the CTRL key and select all the programs you want to move and drag them with the right button to the new folder and click on move files here. It's not automatic but if you make the new folder a short name you could try and remember to type it next time you install something. Things can be dragged around right in the start menu also for future program installs after you have your current programs moved. If you already knew all that sorry to waste your time.
  11. It's probably to do with the Windows Firewall. Try with firewall disabled and if problem goes away check the exclusions on the firewall before reenabling.
  12. You can move it back and run XP from d and use c for data. Should be no problem there. It may be too late though. Keeping a copy of XP on d and reformat & rebuild on c is a good idea though. It's always good to start fresh for me.
  13. Try this: Computer A - server create a user called test. give only test the proper access to the needed folder through ntfs. if you need to add the user test to the administrator group and remove the everyone group from the ntfs permissions and add only the admin group or any combitation so longs as when you look at the user tests effective permissions it shows the proper access for that user. log in as test and check out the effective permissions if your main account doesn't have full admin rights. -- Right-click on the folder to share from explorer and select properties. There is a tab called effective permissions. Check that for the user account you want to use to access. This account must exist on the server and could be on the workstation but doesn't have to be. create a share and give everyone full access. -- Computer B - client right-click on My Netowrk Places left click on Map network drive select drive letter and path click on Connect using a different user name & put in the test user info & select reconnect at logon. that share can only be accessed with the user name & password you created on the server but if that info is known the data can be accessed from any computer on your network. if you had a real server you could also restrict which computers the user test can access the server from to prevent this. You could probably work this with a personal firewall depending on how secure you want the data to be. Any questions I can probably explain it better but that way make sense to me.
  14. During the logon script access something on the unix server to cause the prompting to come up? Maybe that is a wokraround then if it works from My Computer.
  15. to reinstall that file down load the vb6 support files i believe. i doubt that will help though. Your better off getting that file through an update on win update if you can.
  16. Noone has mentioned scandisk or deltree.
  17. Hmm script... I'm not sure. Try searching c:\windows\system32 for *.cpl. CTRL-A to select all results and use the right button to drag them to the desktop release and click create shortcuts here. That is all. But not a script. Sorry.
  18. Try right-clicking on My Network Places and Map Network Drive. Map the drive and select connect using a different username. You can put in a user name and password that way to control the situtation at logon. I don't know if it's different connecting to Unix and maybe you want the password prompting but this way will avoid all that. Just make it permanent.
  19. Have you tried getting a new ip address from your network administrator. If that is you then a machine on your network is configured to the same ip address as the machine getting the error. You can't disable that message I don't think. It is a critcal error for networking. Are you on the Internet? Can/Should you use DHCP instead?
  20. I don't think you should have created another account with the same name. Try Drive Rescue. It might help recover the deleted files if they were deleted. It might not depending on what happened.
  21. this command will write the settings to a file for printing and later use. netsh diag show ieproxy > c:\ieproxy.txt Open c:\ieproxy.txt and print.
  22. Are you running Spybot & Adaware? They work well together. You can get a second virus opinion at http://www.trendmicro.com What about Windows Update? Can you run that? Update your drivers and software. Does it also happen in safe mode?
  23. OK let me try and make it simple. I have a database with a tables (manf, parts, store, sku) I use column 'idmanf' to links parts to manf. This work fine I can list parts & manf info together. I then created a 4th table called sku. I have linked it to parts & store. I tried creating a 5th table to hold purchase dates and tie in the store, sku, item, & manf. I buy the same things alot so I want to create this table to hold purchases & what they are and where they came from, etc. A query that will list the manf info with the part info as well as the store info with the sku, prices and dates purchased. Any help in the right direction would be enough. I think I am getting the WHERE statement wrong. I have links to three different tables in the 5th table and one of the tables in linked to one more table. How do I define that?
  24. Right-click on My Network Places and Select Map Network Drive. Create the connection with a drive letter and logon as another user and put in the account you created first and then try the admin accout and see if that works. XP Home should logon as another user.
  25. Yeah, the check the hosts file not lmhosts. Or both...
