    Dpi Settings

Are you still hooked up to the HDTV? Did it come with a Monitor driver? You could try loading that. When you switched back the DPI settings did it copy the fonts & everything OK? Maybe try changing the theme back and forth. Dunno? No HDTV here.
  2. hmm try updating your video drivers. just a shot in the dark.
  3. the same reason they hide file extensions by default. microsoft thinks we are simple.
  4. The options Takeshi said to set are correct to prevent downloads only in Internet Explorer. I have never used this option before so I can't comment of the scope of how it works (like in Outlook Express). It disables Save target as... also. It did allow me to still get the link into my Download Manager though. If you are really concerned about improper downloads you should filter them at the server level. I am not familar with content filters too much (they will work though) but a server based anti-virus program like Trend Micro will let you block the downloading of any filetypes you want. I don't recommend relying on just the disabling of downloads to stop anything much. Suposedly there will be JPG viruses eventually. These files are automatically downloaded and saved to your Temporary Internet Files folder.. The disable options spoke of won't stop a malicous web page from installing garbage on your pcs without prompting or a new worm, only virus protection does that. That is just my 2 cents...
  5. Are you sure the Windows Time service is enabled & running (try manually stopping & starting to see if you get any warnings) and that you are at least a Power User to the machine? If have normal user access that is not enough to change the time. Then try this... You may need to find a Time Server in Norway I do not know. The syntax for w32tm & net time is net time /setsntp:time.nist.gov net time /querysntp w32tm /resync you must set the sntp server before running w32tm /resync. the net time /querysntp will verify if you have one set. are you getting any new errors with any of the given suggestions?
  6. Do those settings disable Save as... also? I am unfamilar with them.
  7. What are you using for subnet masks? The wrong subnet mask on the printer could cause the problem you are having. They should at least be identical to the clients. I am very weak when it comes to binary math so I can't offer definitive help. 255.255.255.0 is the standard subnet I use. Search Google for Subnetting Class C Addresses & find a document you can understand if you need to know more.
  8. I don't know, maybe try changing the line filter. Do you get all the correct lights on your modem when the computer access is down?
  9. TweakUI changes the location that Windows looks for the Start Menu folder, not the default Start Menu install path. Same with the registry changes...
  10. net time the way you are running it, needs an internal domain or server to sync with. If you have an internal server then you must specufy the computer name of the server to sync with. \\PDC type: net time help
  11. Something is wrong with your file associations I think. It is seeing www.verizon.com as a .com file instead of a web address I think. Try reseting your Internet file associations with Firefox or Internet Explorer. That should probably work.
  12. You need a special program to do that I believe. Server based virus protection has this ability to filter out all downloads or certain filetypes. If you prevented user from downloading at all though they wouldn't be able to download web pages either. Everything is downloaded in Internet Explorer, you don't always get a prompt for what to do with the file, IE already knows. There are Internet filter programs that can block certain filetypes but for what you want you must disable the Internet. Block port 80 in the firewall. You can set permissions and policies to prevent users from installing software though. A free cheap way is to set all suspect file types to run though notepad. Like .ZIP, .SCR & .VBS. This can't be done for EXE & HTML files though. I believe you can force the download folder in Internet Explorer to a single location and then you don't give users write access to this folder. I think I have been on machines configured like that before.
  13. If it doesn't work in either browser then you probably could try cleaning your system of spyware/adware & viruses. Most likely your problems falls into those catergories. Check your firewalls as well. Trying disabling them when you have this problem. As a matter of fact you could try closing everything possible when you have that problem and see if the access is still limited. You are saying that you can browse freely for a few minutes before this occurs? Also what is the errors you are geting??? 404, 550? That would help...
  14. My XP SP2 don't allow for a 0 either. I have a Vaio with built in Wireless & my drivers are up to date. You may have to reconfigure the access point.
  15. If you set the router to external DNS & set your machines DNS to the router that should work. Normally you would ping the computer name for internal computers. Enable Netbios over TCP/IP. There are other options though.
  16. What browser are you using? Internet Explorer? Does it happen in Firefox?
  17. For FTP you have to open the FTP port Port 21 (default) in your Firewall and depending on what you use, try allowing only his MAC address to use the port. As well as setting a username/password & disabling anonymous. A VPN is the most secure way though if you want more privacy. I am not familiar with software VPN solutions for XP though. Someone else probably is. FTP is not a very secure way but will certainly work.
  18. Can you give me the reg key to set Internet Shortcuts under file type, Yzöwl?
  19. Hey thanks I'll be sure to check it out... That sounds promising... I run Beyond Contacts on my Palm though, I'll have to test first.
  20. To have them always open hold the right shift key and right-click on a .html file. Select open with and always open with this program. That should do it. It thought you wanted the option to use firefox if you needed but not all the time. Onve you browse and find the executable then you select it from the list. You must add the .exe first then select it from the list. added oops this only works in 98 I think. Open with is always there in XP & 2K.
  21. Is there a way for Thunderbird to HotSync with my Palm Pilot? I use Outlook to Hotsync and Outlook Express to use the contacts from Outlook and general email useage. Otherwise I would like to know how to fix that 'Internet Shortcut' filetype to point to Firefox. It currently points to: rundll32.exe shdocvw.dll,OpenURL %l
  22. Are you using TCP/IP or NETBEUI to connect? You may need to enable netbios over tcp/ip or add NETBEUI if you still can in 2003... What about DHCP? Or you need to put a hole in ISA server... It depends on which network protocols and services you have installed on the server.
  23. In the old days an IDSN modem connection and an ISDN router connection were different. I am not sure about today. I would check with your provider. Cisco has ISDN routers if you want to check them. I don't think they modem out though. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps380/ps4003/
  24. I don't know the answer to your actual problem but you could copy firefox.exe to the Send To folder found under \Documents and Settings\username\Send To.
  25. I think that Media Player 10 doesn't allow for this. I think you actually broswe inside WMP10 instead of the other way. There could be a workaround but I don't see any options for that sort of thing in Media Player 10. Ony my Windows 2000 machine with Media Player 9 I have an option for Media in Internet Explorer. On XP with WMP10 I have no option in Internet Explorer available even under customize menu.
