does the massstorage in sysprep or unattened.txt only deal with SCSI or does it do IDE & SATA storage aswell?

I noticed the post down the bottom just after I posted my thread... working on it at present..

As the title says can you use this with sysprep if you ghave the $oem$ & i386 directories in sysprep?

imaging is quicker for our base image. we then have different departments with different packages we then deploy to the PC's.

right. i know this has been spoke about before but the information I have got is flakey & all over the place.. Basically im create a base image sysprepeing & imaging using powerquest drive image 6.0 i have several P4 workstations including laptops which should take the same image if done correctly. the problem i have is information on what HAL to use or when/how to modify to go across the platforms. i have dell Laptops & base units of roughly the same spec but different models Do I need to use a specific hal on my base image which will work on all these P4 machines or will I need to inject a hal through sysprep some how..? What is the best way to do this.. Ive also seen that i will need to change the IDE ATAP controller to a standard one before taking the image so it works axcross the other platforms. Is this corect & what is best to set this too..? Mark.

when you download the later driver packs do you just replace the exisitng pack files on your CD or do i have to run another script or the original applying scripts?

you have 2 options. 1. install office 2003 with access 2003 on all machines & upgrade your databases to 2000/2003 format. or 2.install office 2003 over the top of your current office product but do not install Access 2003 so you keep the older version installed. Access 2000 databases open fine in 2003 but access 97 databases need to be converted before hand.

Hi Guys, not sure were to post this but ill put it here for now.. basically I want to remove the Links favorites folder from IE through active Directory. How can I do it.? i can add favorites in AD & remove favorites but the links folder is greyed out so nothing can be done to it.. I have searched google & found ways to do it to each PC but need to do this across a whole domain..

been creating user profiles for years now so thats not a real problem. its knowing the best way to get this on an unattended xp cd so it gets copied down at the right time to the machine &the best wat to get it copied down. I was thinking of doing this through the $OEM$ folders but not sure this is the right time to copy it down. any help would be apreciated.

is there away I can create a default user profile on a PC & then put this on an XP CD for this to be copied down as the default user profile on each install?

Hi All, My icon text is showing a background colour (blue) & is not transparent. How can I set it so the text of an icon is seen over the background as if he text box is transparent? hope this makes sense. I have set backgrounds before an its been ok but since Ive set a custom theme its taken it upon itself to put a blue text bacground on my icons. I have several reg keys changing at t-12 mins for the HKCU which sets these for the default user profile. why not this one?

right, at Cmdlines.txt I have modified the reg key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "Wallpaper"="C:\\WINDOWS\\EBC2001.BMP" to set the default background for all users but for some reason the key below will not set my default screen saver. what key will set the default screensaver for the default profile? [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop] "SCRNSAVE.EXE"="C:\\WINDOWS\\EBCSTA~1.SCR" I know I can do it via themes but I dont want to do it this way. Remember what ever key is to be set to do this needs to run at Cmdlines.txt

thanks for your help. when the firewall is disabled by A group polocy in AD it automatically turns of the security centre so its not a problem now. thanks for your help anyway.

you can only do a local install source with a normal CD/files which have not been put into a admin install source. I think its the setup.ini that you can modify to force a local install source. this does not work with an administrtive install.

remove office from add/remove programs in control panel. search the web for the office 2003 resource kit. download this & there is a removal tool in here. run this after you have unistalled office to completely remove all office files. Delete the microsoft Office folder in program files & start from scratch.

I have XPSP2 installed but have automatic updates & firewall turned off. who knows how to turn the security centre notification in system tray for all users?

if the machines im using are SP1a should I use the HAL from that CD or can I use the HALS from SP2.? Also, is the multiprocessor related to more than one actual processor internally on one PC or are they relating to multiple machines called processors.?I would presume the first one but i hve heard a machine be called a processor.

I have machines installed with an administrative install of office 2003 & wish to have a script etc that I can use to unistall the product. Ive searched the web but cannot find anything to guide me the right way of doing it. First I thought there might be a switch to use with misec command which is used for a reinstall of the product. I also thought i could setup a new MST file with none of the products selected to uinstall in the vain hope it uninstalled what was installed. anyone have any ideas on how best to do it & has anyone done it before.. cheers
