  2. You have confirmed everything I've heard about WinXP. You're a lot better off with Win2k. It sure would be nice if there will be a "home" version of Win2k3. I've been using it for a month and it is faster than Win2k. It's more noticeable on a slower machine, like mine. BTW, the latest versions of Nero work fine with Win2k3.
  3. No one said it was the same as WinXP, it's an upgrade to Windows 2000 Server which is very similar to Windows 2000-Professional. I've been using Win2k3 as a workstation for about a month, now, and it can be "tweaked". Granted, there are a fews drivers that's don't work, but some XP drivers do work. You have to experiment. Most, but not all, apps work fine under Win2k3. Most are probably glad it's very different from WinXP. IMHO, Win2k is superior to WinXP. If Win2k is OS of choice for Steve Gibson, it's my choice, too!
  4. 4-5 days with no problems...yet.
  5. Unfortunately, Win2k does not have dual monitor support. If it did, this would all be a lot easier. If you're lucky, doing what Porn Loader suggests will work. I've done the same thing on a Compaq (no BIOS accessibility) and it worked...once. If you have no success, try the Matrox card in a difference PCI slot, this sometimes makes a difference.
  6. Nero changes something with each release, and that's not always a good thing. It's destroyed several CD-R/W discs. I've had new releases BSOD Win2k. The latest releases seem to work. This is especially true for InCD, which won't upgrade previous versions. InCD ver 4.0.1.0 is a major change from verson 3.x.
  7. If you still like Win3.1, get one of these: http://www.hitechcafe.com/eshop/product.as...ku=XC6000+NO+PS It actually runs Windows for Pen Computing 1.0, has a touch screen, too. BE ADVISED: These computers have no CDROM and no Floppy Disk Drive. They do have a single PCMCIA port, so you can transfer files via CompactFlash and PC Card Adapter from your laptop. They have a parallel port and a serial port. The 260MB drive is more than enough for Win3.1. It comes with drivers so the CompactFlash/PC Card will be seen as Drive D.
  8. Since you have Partition Magic/Boot Magic, let it do the work for you. This worked for me: Installation of Win2k3 went like this: 1. Copy Win98SE to new partition, used Partition Magic to do this. 2. Added bootable partition to BootMagic boot list, boot to new partition. 3. Upgrade Win98SE to Win2k-Server 4. Upgrade Win2k-Server to Win2k3-Enterprise Since I already had MSOffice installed on Win98, it did not have to be reinstalled. Same for most of the other Apps.
  9. Same for Logitech. Their "universal" installation will not install under Win2k3 and they do acknowledge that they don't support it yet.
  10. Links to ATI drivers are here: http://www.geocities.com/ziyadhosein/rprow2k.htm This one worked for my RagePro: 5.10.2600.6009 (XP_6009), released February 24, 2002). Update: I have found that none of these drivers will allow the monitor to shutoff; they will blank the screen. The Windows supplied drivers will allow the monitor to "power down". Same result for Win2k3 and Win2k.
  11. UPDATE: I unistalled 3rd party driver and Win2k3 plugged and played the USB2.0 PCI card and the USB2.0 external hard drive. Even works through my USB2.0 4-port hub. I don't know why it worked today. I previously installed and unstalled the 3rd party driver, 3-4 times.
  12. It has nothing to do with the card. Works fine in Win2k. Why doesn't the USB2.0 work? It's a brand new PCI card and also works with Win2k.
  13. Alt- PrintScreen captures the active window only, instead of the entire screen.
  14. Partition Magic & Boot Magic http://www.powerquest.com
  15. Ghost 7.0 works but must be run from a DOS boot disk or from Windows 98. This version does not work well on NTFS partitions, no problem with FAT32. Backup to and restore from: CD-RW, 2nd internal hard drive, different partition on same hard drive, external hard drive (if you have DOS drivers). No backup to USB device.
  16. http://www.powerquest.com/ Partition Magic/Boot Magic does it all.
  17. Win98 on 1st partition, Win31 on 2nd partition. PartitionMagic/BootMagic to control the boot. See www.powerquest.com for more info.
  18. DON'T DO IT! Win2k is much faster amd more stable than Win98 on any computer faster than an old 486.
  19. No, Win2k3 does see the SCSI card in the Device Manager. I can't get Win2k3 to see my USB2.0 hard drive either. No problem with Win2k.
  20. HDD#0 is 40GB and has 6 partitions, #1-Win2k=4GB #2-Win98SE=2GB #3-Win2k3=2GB #4-Data=6GB #5-Downloads and Uninstalled Programs=25GB #6-Swap, Windows paging file=1GB. Partitions #1-#3 all start within the 1024 cylinder boundary and are all bootable primary partitions. HDD#1 is 6GB, one partition HDD#2 is 2GB SCSI, one partition, Adaptec ISABus SCSI Card When booting from #1, Win2k will see all drives and all partitions. When booting from #3, Win2k3 sees HDD#0 partitions, #3, #4, #5, #6, (#1 and #2 are hidden, as it should be) but does not see HDD#2, The Adaptec SCSI card is in the device driver list but the disk drive is not in the list. BootMagic controls the boot and is configured exactly the same as for the Win2k partition. The next thing to try is to move Win2k3 to HDD#1. HDD#2 is old and slow (SCSI-2). This is not a "show stopper", just can't figure out why this is happening. It may have nothing to do with Win2k3.
