But it probably is faster. Windows Vista and 7 are notorious for having really slow update searching through the Windows Update App. There isn't yet a patch to restore Windows Update on Vista RTM and SP1 other than the WSUS method. SP2 you can install the Server 2008 SHA-2 update and follow @abbodi1406's instructions in the MDL forum.
Yes, the search fails because it is trying to connect to the old discontinued endpoint. Have you installed the Server 2008 SHA-2 Update? I believe it changes the endpoint to the new one.
Yes, it is. It seems to need a file called wsus3.inf from Windows XP from looking in the log. I copied the file over, and now I get a different error. I am using Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320
Sorry to raise dust on an old thread here, but both of your websites for IE6 SP1 are down. I have alternate links now but they don't have the original timestamp. I know Windows Update does not work anymore, but is there a website that still has the original file with original timestamp. @ppgrainbow.
I would recommend disabling SSL 3.0. It is vulnerable to the POODLE attack. Only about 5 percent of websites still support SSL 3.0 Mine has only TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.2 enabled.
Do you have the Windows Update registry entries? The override ones? They are the ones in the directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\Test.
Well, got Windows 2000 fully patched using the method we found yesterday. Unfortunately, I had to scour the internet to find the files I needed. But soon there will be an all in one kit similar to the one I released for XP SP3 and Server 2003 (untested for 2003).
Install these five updates in the order specified, http://i430vx.net/files/Win2k/Get working winupdate/ and then go back a directory and get install KernelEx 3.0e. It will install the 2 remaining updates. After that, you will install the Windows Update Agent 7.6 with the instructions specified further back in this thread.
If you go to my update kit on MDL forums, extract it, and then go to the x86 folder. You will see a WUA-Downlevel executable file, put that on the desktop, and run it. Also make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 installed.
