  1. Don't get me wrong I am not any anti vaxxer person and I got all basic vaccinations. My only worry is related health issues others had with those experimental vac. I wont be guinea pig for big medical companies. But you know what response to my worry is? "Stop reading conspiracy theory sites, there is no microchips in vaccine" or that I am selfish for not taking it. I have not said anything from microchips only that I got worry it could have side effects to my health as it is currently experimental. I hate when you are automatically flagged belonging to some actual id*** club when you have genuine concerns from anything. But it usually tell other side has run out of good arguments and need to be desperate. If you mean computers overall we likely would be near Amish as computer covers quite lot of things. There has been computers since early 1900, but they were not like today. Also every time you would call someone there would be phone center person (sentraalisantra here) instead of automatic call machine to connect you that person. But if you mean computers like one I am typing with one thing I would see is it would limit ability to do you own research on things as computers and internet allows much less resisted access to data than before. Also gotta admit computers does some things like calculations easier and save lot of time for my life. Sure I can calculate without but why bother every time when spreadsheets make them easier. Also I would not have so much media preserved as I have now
  2. did that ever leak capacitors? I had dell optiplex 260 from same era and it had bulged and leaky caps since capacitor plague. Some of early 2000 dells had capacitor issues that gave them nickname Hell Capacitor plague did not affect later dell units. I have had GX620 and 755 and those are still kicking with bulging or bad caps
  3. I don't know the horsepower maybe ? Jokes aside it depends from usage. 1 liter N/A engine is just fine for normal highway usage, but when you got tons of passengers and other load on car extra horsepower comes in handy. Also during winter on hilly area any power engine can produce helps since if you stall on hill you will roll down and break your car. Which reminds me from fun story about V6 turbocharged Mercedes with launch assistant, automatic transmission, AWD and all other fancy stuff that got stuck in snowy hill multiple times while my friend 1.8l N/A FWD Nissan Almera without anything else than traction control was able pass it just fine. Mercedes was way too heavy I guess and needed to be towed up the hill
  4. biggest issue is to find VOIP provider that sell number for consumer in Finland and allows call to 112 (emergency number). My Modem can actually convert analog phone to VoIP but getting VoIP service is hard here as carriers killed it off push smartphones down everyone throat. When I eventually find good one I wont replace my cell phone with it. I use my old-school wireless phone on a road and transfer calls to VoIP when home. Kinda like my 15" laptop from 2005 is device for me on a road while in home I want use my desktop with big monitor. Also I am looking going into ham radio for communications in future as other options will be harder and harder to get. Most of old tech just work better P.S I totally understand why you don't want wireless phone and prefer landline, sadly you are one of few remaining who think it should be freedom of choice while other think you need to be forced to something "for your own benefit"
  5. I do have bunch of Nokia and Siemens and Samsung phones (pre 2009) that nobody wanted and I am collector of those. They are part of Finnish technology history but these days nobody cares about history unless they can profit from it so I plan keep them safe. My oldest phone on collection is Nokia 880 GSM from 1995 which was basically reshelled Nokia 2110. Nokias from late 90s to early 2000 were actually best and most reliable mobile phones there is. They were assembled in my home country many I got were actually assembled and built in my home town. They used high quality plastic on them and were working making them have better and better battery life. Consider that when first mass produced Nokia phone 1011 came out in 1992 it had 15h standby time and 90min talk time max and 5 years later Nokia 6110 had whopping 270h standby time and 5h talk time with 900mah battery. I got 1200mah battery on my 6110 phone and it lasts near two weeks with single full charge while I call a lot. Also that phone is frikking durable and feels it will last many generations. So if you think all cellphones are super unreliable it is false. And I agree that landline is better but in my eyes cellphones and landline phones were not to competite against each others as laptops were not to competite against desktop machines even though market changed to that way. Wireless phones are good for areas where is no access for landlines or use on a move while landlines would be my choice on home and other non moving places. Also there should be freedom pick between. Am I only who is not simple minded enough to see it that way in this country or world? And you know reason why I got no landline and I really hope you are not forced in US "For you benefit" away from landline option. Here they made even getting VOIP hard to push those sh@tty smartphones down everyone throat. I do not hate smartphones and only hate that they are pushed to those who do not want them. Pretty sure they would be offended too if I would come and push them my old brick Nokia but I wont since for it is freedom of choice.
  6. I gotta be ahead of others as my family only had one car expect at one point they had two cars for year and I used their older car to learn driving before it broke down too badly for wear (GM seal of quality). In other hand that car had 300 000km driven so it served long life and as far as know new owner fixed it and is still driving it. Also we were not traveling aboard, rather traveling in home country and my parents taught me not to consume. During my life I have had 5 phones expect bunch of old Nokias I saved from being scrapped while some change phones like underwear. Also I had 4 desktop machines total that I did not get for free and were from "new" parts so I am ahead others in reducing emissions, waste and consuming.
  7. My favorite on classic cars are Saab Scania era Saabs (pre gm). Those were amazing engineering and manufacturing from best of Finnish and Swedish engineers. Most Saab 900 sold here were made in my home country at uusikaupunki factory while some were made in Trollhättän Sweden . Saab benefit and weakness was quality. They did very safe and reliable cars that are still one of safest cars on road and got can last near forever if maintained properly. Problem was that they were expensive and Saab did not make tons of profit from car they sold. And most who had money to Saab chose BMW or Mercedes even though they had worse engineering (see top gear Saab vs BMW drop test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk5CTRu_Pzw). Also what dropped them in America was "lawnmower" 4cylinder engine. That 150hp 2.0l turbocharged engine was good but for some reason I never understood most US consumer felt to care from amount of cylinders and not from fuel efficiency or power vs consumption ratio. They were designing and made few prototypes from 4liter 230hp turbocharged V8 engine in uusikaupunki factory until GM bough them out and they had their v6. Here is link to video about that engine from old YLE TV show puskuri https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVidhrnLFf0 Saab is like pre 2008 Nokia phones are to me. Everyone today think they are bad because they are old (old must be bad because twatter told me so on my iPhone) when in reality they are high quality and lasts long time and because they are unwanted you can get them cheaply.
  8. Limiting gas cars and going to EV is just way to move problem out of your eyes. No matter what they claim they will use fossil fuels to charge those EV. And remember that test that says EV is more environmental friendly is done biased way. They do like petrol car output exhaust fume and ev wont mean ev is clean. But of course electricity comes out of wall outlet so it is clean But I agree that many uses too big engine for daily use. I understand huge v6 and v8 if you move huge amount of load but having one for daily drive without load is overkill. For me 1.8l DOCH engine without turbo or VVT/VTEC or 1.6l DOCH with vtec/vvt (Toyota silvertop and Honda JDM B16-A as example) is my minimum because it is something that would have enough horsepower for mixed use on highway/town/with load while not sucking too much gas
  9. And nobody seems to care how it will affect battery lifespan here to use EV. Now everyone say things like "don't listen radio" and "don't use heater" to make EV acceptable in their mind. So we need to go back to bad old days when cars did not have heater and needed to have thick winter jacket and gloves in car just not to freeze alive in your cockpit? During emergencies I do not want my car and engine run using same energy. If I am out of fuel I still got lights, hazard signal and heater. When EV runs out of "fuel" you got nothing. Also what is trend on having million displays in car and not having normal gauges? Those are distraction in my opinion. I want simple gauges back. I am not saying that there cant be any screen as option but not as mandatory. Also I prefer install my own phone car kit and not have some vendor thing locked into brand new BT enabled phones with manufacture program installed. And some may not have wireless phone to car or want one that is permanently installed to car by themselves. This is gauge cluster that got all information you need on driving and is clear enough (from saab) https://www.rbmsaabparts.com/rbm_images/produits/greenlights2.jpg
  10. 11 years. My original trusty Pentium 4 tower with antec sonata case was last time cleaned in 2009 after antec psu blew up and I never cleaned it after that until last year when did full cleanup and rinsing (mainboard and electrics off case) to it. Dust had gotten into fan bearings making them hard to spin so had to swap fan.
  11. well said. That is my life attitude. I cannot know when it will end and will try live my best until day it all ends. I try not to worry too much and find things in life I enjoy like hiking, watching movies and playing games
  12. This kinda reminds me from pig flu. Everyone were super hysteric that it will kill us all and you need take vac or will die. I know one friend who had it and he is still alive without side effects. Also many who took vac suffer from narcolepsy. Now it feels same but much longer period of time. I guess constitution law wont mean a thing in your country (like it would mean thing on many places).
  13. You didn't specify software or hardware so i say Microsoft mouse from 1983. Anyone who says it is bad they do not understand how x and y axis based input devices are the future. Also can your fancy IBM PS/1 with PC-DOS and keyboard play piano on screen? No. Maybe I should not joke here but that question is super vague and kinda makes no sense. Pick one MS product to like is kinda strange . Maybe rephrase whole thing and also mods could move this to different category since this is not related to windows 11 and maybe you can get more sensible answer to more senisble question
  14. Here we call them Viktoriankaijanen. In my experience they wont like other birds and they bit very hardly even stronger than cockatiel when they attack and for that sized bird they move quickly. Lizards don't like from other pets. I remember once there was dog visiting on house with gecko and it came to front window and tried scare dog away and dog just stared it with interest. Luckily there was glass between them. Do you keep iguana in your yard?
  15. well I have not closely followed that sinking ship but their engine seems not allow do anything for those privacy settings on palememe based browser even when I allow js. It works on ungoogled chromium and librewolf so useless and inferior to searx, which can do ddg and google results and I can run it on my private instance And thing is violators will never change for better. For example privacy respecting Duckduckgo used to run data collection operation before was privacy respecting vendor. Always look under curtain and you see more than before. Like I said you still got lot to learn in life (so do I and everyone else) and that if something sounds too good to be true it is not true.
  16. @Sampei.Nihiraif you want to see how Pihole log looked like after I reloaded site with all content blocking off at browser level. It seems work for basic ads.
  17. I know that feeling. I had perfectly configured XP setup on old mainboard (asus m2n-sli deluxe) that did not want reload os when moved to new mainboard (Asus H87M-PLUS) and used lot of effort to remove old drivers, convert it to achi, install new drivers, reconfigure anything that relied on old drivers because it was less effort compared fresh install of windows and software and tweaks
  18. there is soluction for that if you have spare linux box or VM to utilise. https://pi-hole.net/ I am using that and it with default lists works great for blocking ads in network level. Sometimes UBO might conflict with that. Also make sure you wont blacklist any CDN you may need because some lists on by default. I agree with this. In my tests on Chromium, Gecko and Goanna based browsers enabling excess amount of blocklists wont block more ads or trackers and only slows down browsing. I only use UBO for cosmetic blocking and Umatrix will handle ads and tracking blocking. Also ublock is helpful to block anything that umatrix is missing for some reason because sometimes you cant block all visual annoyances and ublock works great for it. I only use built in filters and adblock filter list for finland and my custom cosmetic filters on it.
  19. https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/mv3/intro/ In short Chromium will be removing webRequest api and replace it with chrome.declarativeNetRequest in next month with Manifest V3 (V2 will be crippled away). This of course is done in name of security because google is worried from following to end user. Now when I said official story I can say my opinion on this. That is total lie and only purpose of that is to limit privacy add-ons like noscript, ublock origin, Umatrix etc from having higher control over your browser. New api replacing it will not allow addons directly read data and will force request trough chromium (source). Also that wont limit addons from stealing your data because malicious addons today wont need to read your browser traffic to steal passwords or or other data. But of course anything can be done with security excuse. And if you think some alternatives like Firefox or Coward I mean Brave will not do it remember that Firefox is funded by Google and it past they killed off XPCOM addons in name of security, forced addon signatures, added hard blocklist for addons and Brave gets paid from Google to use their search engine plus it uses Chromium engine as default, it includes it own spyware, it uses addons still for contect blocking. And some actually good forks like Librewolf and Ungoogled chromium are in uphill battle with mainstream decisions and developers of librewolf has admitted they have problem hand. And UXP based browsers like Palememe or Serpent suffer from compatibility issues with Chromium JS and WASM made pages so those are not so great either for all use. Feels like every day I want get more away from internet, but world forces me to use online services to do basic things because offices are closed or resisted access
  20. I cannot fully say if this works in your configuration but I have been using these drivers to load even NT4 on newer mainboards on achi mode. You need to slipstream those with nlite http://alter.org.ua/en/soft/win/uni_ata/
  21. I wonder what parrots you had? Cockatiels, Budgies, Lovebirds or bigger parrots? Does France have population from escaped parrots? When I was in Spain long ago I saw Quaker parrots there.
  22. I have seen around same age laptop booting Windows 3.1. That laptop did not have any documentation with it and finding info is hard as it is Olivetti rebranded to digital. I have that laptop still but without understanding error codes I cant swap rechargable cmos battery. I installed one to it which had same voltage and laptop turned off every so often blinking heart symbol on LCD which I assume means system health warning. When I pulled battery it worked and still works great just need reconfigure bios on every boot. I also was able to salvage very rare WSOY EN-FI dictionary program (1991) from it hard drive that runs on DOS and WIN16 (it runs even on XP).
  23. They are not too bad to run but problem is that many programs use those as unnecessary depency. For example firefox by default wont work without pulseaudio without good reason but you can make it work without. SystemD, Dbus, Pulseaudio etc are more things that power user may not want in their system but for average mortal does not have to worry about them. I recommend newbie to just get just work distro like Linux mint or Salix and not think Artix, Devuan or Gentoo and avoiding pulseaudio and others before is advanced enough (and even then is not requirement) If systemd would be my biggest worry and not worry from making enough to to pay bills or any other actual issues I would be happy
  24. for me google vs apple vs Microsoft is same s*** with different as*****. Apple privacy thing is straight out lie to attract consumers. Apple made their tracking blocking thing to have ad monopoly that would force every ad company pay them for data. Also apple super privacy respecting setup requires you to activate device on apple servers. Also Apple uses privacy as excuse to make side loading of apps in Macos hard/Make it impossible on iOS and in name of security they try block you from maintaining your own devices. So they are no different than other violators and it is totally foolish to believe that publicly traded company would care from your privacy and would not sell your data to get more earnings for shareholders. Thing is that these days privacy is best marketing term for anything. Last time I saw honest company was Google around 2010 when their CEO said that if you do not want them to see your files do not upload files to their service and that is redpill many are not ready to swallow even today because they are not comfortable with fact that no company cares from your rights or privacy and only want to lure you believe so. I assume I will get plenty of "look this research or whitepaper that proves your FUD wrong" like always when I question their precious companies (not talking from you rather that diehard part)
  25. All I can say is that here we go again. Lot of people around me keep saying they will never ever go to Windows 11 from Windows 10 and will boycott Microsoft for bad decisions. Same people said that they wont go to Windows 10 from Windows 8 or 7 and guess what OS they use now? Windows 10. I bet in few months most of them are running Windows 11 only. Why do everyone say things they wont stand behind? I am not saying that just give up and go all to Windows 11 and all other M$ products and give them thousands of euros, rather stick on your words or make more realistic plan like I will only use Windows 11 where I really have to and will prefer have main system with older version of Windows or go to linux like me. Currently got two Windows 8+ system I use. One is workplace laptop with Windows 10 and second is my LAB system running Windows 11 for testing purposes and it is located on isolated network that is behind separate IP and wont have access to my personal network. Currently that lab system is running Linux though. And if someone want use Windows 11 that is fine too but my point is don't say things you wont mean. I just wonder how much more consumers are able to stand? I guess they would even be fine mandatory for retina scan every time they want use their PC (facial scan exist already called Windows Hello but that is not forced for now) and even if machine would lock them out after they were looking wrong information like what is wrong with this system.
