Funny thing about that is I used Linux for a fair bit back in 2013. Our PC had failing RAM and my Dad decided to install Ubuntu on it. My first experience with Linux and I really didn't mind it, until I started using Windows after that up until now. I had it on an old laptop at the time, and remember messing around with Windows Vista VMs as well. Last time I ever used Linux for a week or so was in early 2015. So basically I can see that most Linux users like to get stuff done on their computer and love how it "just works" on Linux. They even get to know and learn how their computer works too, like all the /dev things, services and others. Windows used to be about that preXP but afterwards it just got dumber and dumber over time, until we were met with 10, which im sure that someone happily uses, but people like us who aren't willing to fully switch to Linux (or just can't) who avoid Windows 10 as hard as possible. I've been trying to escape Windows 10 for the past year now and its been a struggle.

Solved the issue! I forced my 60hz one to 75hz using the nvidia panel AND the amd panel on the other card and it fixed all my issues. Everything is smooth and games don't lag anymore even with aero on. Chrome isn't laggy anymore same with Discord. BUY ALL YOUR MONITORS BEING THE SAME MODEL + REFRESH RATE
-
Okay, discovery. Using the nvidia card it works much better, but the lag is still there. Looks like its caused by two of them being 75 and one being 60. When I put them all at 60, everything is all fun and dandy.
-
A consideration though is my GPU drivers. AMD drivers suck badly for every OS except for the open source ones on Linux and macOS. I have an older 1050 Ti that I will try out and see how that goes. I've been meaning to sell my current AMD card anyway.
-
With nothing on this monitor, windows moving is fine. With something on it, the thing on it is extremely laggy and other windows are laggy as well. I do the same thing and whenever that is the case with aero ON, games, Discord, and the browser will lag badly. With aero off however (Basic or Classic) Discord, Games and the browser runs perfect and snappy.

Just tried this program and regardless of that it is a really nice program, all my monitor support DDC including the one from 2010. My GPU is pretty powerful (eql RTX 2070) so I am not sure this would be the cause. I think 7 Aero keeps refreshing on the 60hz monitor. With Vsync on in Minecraft, I can notice that without anything on the monitor, I get 75FPS. With something on the monitor, I get 60FPS. I may be able to use the AMD radeon software to force the monitor to run at 75hz, ive done it before. How is this working fine? In my case, anything that gets put on the second monitor that is the lowest refresh rate, it slows down all the other monitors, which also for some reason causes web browsers and electron apps to become extremely laggy. With Basic, this problem doesn't exist.

I play games on Windows 7. I notice that sometimes the games lag and I found the cause. With all 3 of my monitors enabled, the game lags. With the two good ones enabled, the game doesn't lag. With one monitor, the game runs great. With one good and one bad one, the game lags. My monitor setup is: LEFT = Acer P205H (60hz 900p) MIDDLE = Acer SB220Q (75hz 1080p) RIGHT = Acer SB220Q (75hz 1080p) Is there a way to fix this other than disabling the monitor when playing games? Disabling DWM (using basic) fixes it as well.

Whenever I record / share screen using a screen capture app with aero enabled, Windows 7 caps the FPS to 30. I am wondering if I can patch DWM to not have this limitation as the limitation does not exist in Basic + Classic theme. Is this a thing that can be done?

Yes, Windows 2000 English, I used that update pack that he gave the link to (that pack specifically gave it that BSOD) is there any other update pack I can use before applying the kernel patch? -

I could possibly go into Task Scheduler and have a task in there that terminates steam forcefully, and hope that it runs before the shutdown request of apps.

Then that is what I meant, an EFI bootloader.

On any platform just seeing all these abandonded / inactive accounts is weird, knowing that these were all people but then suddenly disappeared. Who knows what happened to them. Recently a big disappearance was Bigmuscle, who was last seen in July 2020. Hope he comes back soon in good health. What do you guys think of when you see inactive / abandonded accounts?

A bit off topic, but the only reason I don't like 10 (as i have said earlier but not given a full explanation to) follows with these: Why I like Windows 10: Multi monitor support is fantastic Full UEFI is nice (but W8 brought this) The more modern task manager may seem more dumb but is actually pretty useful now with the GPU temp and such Fluency is at least existant, rather than versions pre 1803 Most apps work well with 10 My hardware just generally runs better on it (system from the era of late 2017) Why I don't like Windows 10: Constant feature updates can get annoying sometimes, especially with it doing it when you don't know it Telemetry is annoying, but just a feature of modern internet Sometimes it just doesn't make sense even though it should (like forcing certain drivers) It really just isn't fun to use You have to do shenanigans to get the OS to run the way you want it to (Winaero Tweaker, Open Shell, 7+TT) Inconsistent (The fact that there are two places for settings, which both redirect to each other) Compatibility (One game I have does not work on Win10) Personally, I would much much more prefer Windows 7 as my main computing OS, but with its EoL and uncertainty I sadly don't find my time worth it to mess with it in the future. I have been looking at options like Windows 8.1 and Linux but for now it seems like Windows 10 fits my needs the most. I've mainly used it since release so that generally makes sense to just stick with the disaster. Ive been locked into Microsoft's hold and I can't escape. I don't like Windows 10 because they are forcing us to use what we don't like. Unfortunate part of rolling release software, where you have to use it wether you like it or not. Plus, Windows 7 is now entering the ACPI BSOD zone with some motherboards. Unless someone finds a way to put me on 7 and keep me there, Windows 10 is sadly my only option for the rest of time until Microsoft decides to stop being lazy and make something useful for once. Windows 10 doesn't suck, but it just isn't the best thing out there. I don't happily use it, but I can tolerate it. I can happily use Windows 7 and 8.1. I used 7 on and off over the last 5 years but always moved back to 10 after I felt like I was sticking with a sinking ship. No offense to those who still use it. Windows 10 sucks and sadly Microsoft really meant it as the last version of Windows. If any of us normal classic Windows users wants a Windows like experience, we will just have to hope Microsoft wakes up from their coma or move to Linux, which that in itself is already a fetus in the computer world and has a long way to go before it will make its way on the desktops of today, but even then that isn't Linus's intent for Linux. He made it as just the flexible OS which the server and embedded community took into their own. Desktops never went there because Windows "just works" except it "just doesn't." Remember when people had those heavily customized and themed Windows XP / Vista / 7 installs back 10 years ago? How common they were? Now with 10 we just see the same desktop. Start, search, task view, cortana, tons of ads in the start menu, tons of ads on the taskbar, microsoft edge.

Everything works fine, but definitely the modern ones are not optimized. I can see that Steam does not work on XP anymore (the older client) and since that client was from 2019, 5 years after XP EOL, we could definitely see Windows 7 hitting the roadblock of things dropping out in 2025-2026. Steam already has issues letting itself close when logging off / shutting down, so I have to change the non-responsive timeout to a lower amount in order to get Windows to shut down faster. This does not happen when Steam is already closed. Discord runs, but I can definitely tell that it is fighting DWM with aero (latency with certain UI elements and such) as well as Oculus which purposefully restricts features even though they will most likely still work on 7. Other than those apps, everything works fine even on higher end hardware. Windows 10 though as much hate as it gets is definitely more optimized for that hardware, but not saying that 7 won't run well. Windows 7 definitely runs really well on hardware like this (WEI 7.9).

Okay so everything works except my display, network, and NVMe. NVMe is expected to not work but my display and network ones don’t load because they are “corrupted or missing”.
-
So I am trying the impossible (vista on coffee lake) and so far I got USB 3 working (with that updated stack) but now im wondering if it is possible to get the i219-V working. Right now after replacing 6.1.1 and 6.1 in the inf with 6.0.0 and 6.0, the driver fails to install with "may be corrupted or missing".

You need to have the SHA update to Windows 7. It does not work before that SHA update (meaning anything older than 2019)

I got a RX 5700 XT last July in fact for better driver support, oddly. NVIDIA drivers like to force you onto the latest version of 10, or otherwise just reduce your options. With the newer nvidia cards, its Windows 10 1709+ and no other alternative (the linux ones just generally suck). I got my AMD card so I could have more freedom in my driver (i can now use Linux, macOS) and plus use every version of Windows 10 if I feel like it (works all the way back to 1507). The only problems I have with it, is that the non-WHQL drivers are pretty unstable (which is why I stay on the WHQL ones), and that they broke Windows 8.0 support too. Windows 7 though, being 1 year out of support and they are still developing for it.

Lets see what you guys prefer. I prefer 1607 and 1903.
