  1. Anyone know how to edit the Help -> About popup box? I'd like to grammatically correct and update a MyPal version's About popup I keep around for benchmark comparisons and add the release date. It's petty, I know, but I know I've been able to do this with other software but I can't seem to with this.
  2. BNavigator -- *any* version (on XP x86 or XP x64) Does the Download Manager (Ctrl+J) work for anybody with any of the Roytam versions?
  3. Okay, that makes sense. I only allow scripts on a white-list basis so in the 2+ years I've switched over to NM as my default-for-all, mom and dad's Ally Bank has been the ONLY site where I've seen that pop-up. And here I've been crossing my fingers that "one of these days", our weekly updates was going to 'fix' that Edit: The i7-4770 is my computer with five widescreen monitors. I technically do most of these types of tests/upgrades inside a "VirtualBox" environment before ever testing/upgrading on "real" Operating System on other computers. Good catch for noticing ... But why would I run such a relatively new CPU with only 1GB RAM, lol
  4. I could never get PAE to work on my two Core Duo older machines so I ended up giving up on it and dropped down to 3GB RAM. Regarding the "Warning: Unresponsive Script" error -- here is why I feel it is the culprit. That error would pop up with NM27 from TWO weeks ago. That error would pop up with NM27 from THREE weeks ago. That error would pop up with NM27 from FOUR weeks ago. That error has been popping up with NM27 (at Ally Bank at least) for TWO YEARS!. BUT the NEWEST (one weekend ago, just a few days old now) does NOT pop up that "Warning: Unresponsive Script" error -- it CRASHES instead.
  5. Yeah! I was finally able to crash the newest NM27! The key is that "Warning: Unresponsive Script" error. I used to get that all the time at my parents' (I carry my browser with me on USB) at Ally Bank. It was for the longest time the only website I used as an indicator to "upgrade" or not. If the latest NM27 didn't "fix" that error, then I stayed on my OLD version and opted to NOT "upgrade" (at least not the NM27 on USB). At least on this end, if I tell that error dialog to "Don't ask again" then the next browser session doesn't crash - the page stops loading but at least the browser didn't crash and there was no error dialog popup.
  6. Interesting. Should I feel glad or sad that it doesn't crash for me? I kinda feel left out But with Roytam mentioning that area of code hasn't been touched in a while, that kind of bugs me. Because it tells us that a "new patch" at one address DOES effect code in a totally different address.
  7. Including this one, I've done THREE screencaps - only the first was XP x64, the second two are XP x86. I can NOT reproduce a crash for your YouTube link either. Nobody else has chimed in one way or another, I at least TRIED to help
  8. I already screencap'd that I'm using the same exact NM27 that you cite the crash. I have jumped through every hoop I can think of in trying to reproduce this crash, including XP x86. I simply can NOT reproduce this crash - and nobody else has chimed in to offer anything additional so I don't see anything additional that I can do, sorry.
  9. Okay, German site crashes in Germany and in France. I await to hear from anybody in the US where it crashes for them "here". I stand by my diagnosis that I am being served a DIFFERENT script then folks on that side of the pond. And the script that I am being served is NOT crashing the NEWEST NM27 (as I screencap'd earlier).
  10. Since you live in Germany, my hunch is that you are being served different scripts than I am here in the States.
  11. Again, it's just you. I can NOT reproduce this here. This is from my XP x64. Did not test in my XP x86 (and most likely will not). Can we have a screencap of your Add-On list?
  12. Re: Notepad++ I personally use PORTABLE software pretty much exclusively. My version-of-choice when it comes to Notepad++ is version 6.8.8. It's not only the first version to color-code .rdf and .xul, but I monitor installer size and it's among the SMALLEST .paf.exe versions by a very wide margin.
  13. Ugh, I kinda get tired of hearing this "stuff". And I know that the "philosophy" or the "ideology" or the "sociology", whichever best classifies it, is not only difficult to explain, but also difficult to grasp. An excerpt from thougtco.com - https://www.thoughtco.com/ideology-definition-3026356 Ideology is a system of concepts and views which serves to make sense of the world while obscuring the social interests that are expressed therein, and by its completeness and relative internal consistency tends to form a closed system and maintain itself in the face of contradictory or inconsistent experience. ~Terry Eagleton </end exceprt> I love my Win XP - and my love for it is an "obscured social interest". Others here love their Win XP (or their Vista, as the case may go) - our shared love of our obscured social interest is "internally consistent". We are a "closed system" - whether we are conscious of being closed or not. We stand hand-in-hand in defense of our obscured social interest even "in the face of contradictory or inconsistent experience". We know that XP is less secure than 10 - but we don't care, we have more dominant justifications to use XP. ie, "obscured" We know that security vulnerabilities exist in running an old OS but we attempt to draw the line at running an old version of Notepad++ ??? ie, "in the face of contradictory or inconsistent experience" ie, "even more obscured" Again, we are a "closed system" - and our "social interest" is *obscured* (ie, unclear and difficult to understand, especially to those on the "outside" of that 'closed system'). It really is NOT "our place" to push "our world view" upon those 'on the outside'. If Moonchild wished to abandon XP, it is their (his?) prerogative to do so. If Notepad++ wishes to abandon XP, it is their prerogative to do so. et cetera... I don't know, difficult to explain, difficult to grasp. I love my XP and as "closed" as that may be, at least you guys are just as "closed", lol. But I myself do attempt to remain conscious of living inside that "closed system". And, while opinionated as I am, I do try to "know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away"
  14. No bug here - so it's your PMChrome theme, I suspect.
  15. Well, if we're going to include stuff that don't run on XP - then Chromium 86.0.4240.111 scores 68.2 +/- 0.75
  16. I'd concede to majority consensus, but my vote on adding Jetpack to NM27 would be a resounding NO. Don't need it, don't want it, to me it would be "bloat" added to very fine product.
  17. Oh yeah, forgot to add NM28. NM27 has always "felt" much more responsive than NM28 - at least now I have a "benchmark" that kinda proves it also :) NM28 28.1.0a1 (2018-09-21) == 25.3 +/- 0.44 NM28 28.10.2a1 (2020-10-23) == 27.7 +/- 0.34
  18. I'm not generally a huge fan of "benchmarks" because they focus too much on graphics and I don't do a lot of videos or YouTube. But here's one that touts to focus on "the responsiveness of web applications" - https://browserbench.org/Speedometer2.0/ Below are my results on an i7-4770 running XP x64 (I run 32bit browsers even though on a 64bit OS) [higher numbers are better], "mileage may vary". NM27 27.6.0a1 (2017-10-29) == 36.6 +/- 0.39 NM27 27.9.7 (2020-10-23) == 36.3 +/- 0.47 Arctic Fox 27.10.2a (2020-10-23) == 36.3 +/- 0.67 Mypal 28.2.2 (2018-12-12) == 27.2 +/- 0.64 Mypal 28.14.2 (2020-10-13) == 28.86 +/- 0.25 BNavigator 0.9.7559a1 (2020-10-09) == 27.5 +/- 0.31 Basilisk/Serpent 52.9.0 (2020-10-23) == 27.28 +/- 0.15 Chromium 49.0.2623.112 (2016-12-24) == 59.8 +/- 0.81 Chromium (Advanced Chrome) 54.15.5320.0 (2017-10-29) == 51.6 +/- 1.3
  19. You shouldn't hold your breath on getting a direct reply. Roytam offers SEVENTEEN different browser builds if I counted correctly. You need to find one that "balances" most of your needs - you will NOT find one that meets "all" of your needs. It took TWO YEARS for an "about:permissions" bug to get 'partially' fixed in NM27. I personally hold the view that a "patch" applied INCORRECTLY actually INTRODUCES security vulnerabilities. That didn't stop people from using NM27 during those TWO YEARS. We do have a "large following" here that FALSELY thinks they are "secure" just because they update their browser 'weekly'. That is NOT meant as any disprespect, so to speak. We all have differing perspectives on "security" - 'to each their own' :)
  20. regarding ArcticFox vs NM27 -- about:permissions is still broken in ArcticFox but has been 90% fixed in NM27 a month or so ago
  21. This can be done relatively easy using an older program called "Proxomitron". Huge fan! Couple it with GreenBrowser and that was my default-for-everything combination for a good 4-5 years or so. The creator passed away a few years back but there is a recent project being updated every once in a while. Though might be easier to see if a NM27 addon can be created.
  22. No disagreement on "security" perspectives. I did point out that as far as browser preference goes, that the reality is that nobody can answer that question but you (the person that was asking which browser to use). Sure, we have a lot of "cheerleaders" here that will say "use this browser, I use it and so should you" (paraphrasing, of course). But I was striving to provide some "logical justifications" as to why I use NM27 over NM28. I only use EIGHT add-ons so I don't doubt that my needs are for sure less "broad" than others. I do take the security stance of "save often" and kinda don't 'care' if I get hit with a virus (I never have, knock on wood). I keep a disk image handy for full unattended reinstall and don't save anything to the local hard drive. My computer can crash and I'm back up fully operational in 20 minutes.
  23. I think you'll be happy with that NM28 version dated 2018. I personally use a NM27 version dated 2017. I will take quick, snappy, and responsive any day of the week over "patched for security". "Security", in my view, is a d@mn dog chasing its own tail. And, in my view, unless you're visiting p0rn sites or illegal downloads, then "security schmaacurity". Most "security vulnerabilities fall in the realm of "stand on one foot, rub your bellie clockwise, tap your forhead, flush the toilet, cycle the furnace" and everything has to happen precisely within milliseconds to actually be "vulnerable" - one in a million shot... Just never happens in "real life"... I'm also NOT a fan of "feature creep" - explain to me why a browser targeting XP has code for Start Menu Tiles that are only Win 8 and higher ??? But I digress.
  24. AGREED! My computer has FIVE monitors and it's not uncommon during research projects to have FOUR of them with New Moon Windows each with a DOZEN or so tabs. NM27 is much more responsive than NM28. If you want to run a test, use this version of NM28 - http://o.rths.ml/palemoon/palemoon-28.1.0a1.win32-git-20180922-3c04affe2-xpmod.7z That NM28 version will be just as snappy and responsive as NM27. It was shortly into the 28.2.x versions that the NM28 sluggishness set in.
