  2. Solitary whales and dolphins could be becoming more common By James Ashworth Increasing numbers of whales and dolphins appear to be taking up solitary lives around the world. Scientists and conservationists are continuing to investigate why this is happening, with the exact reasons remaining unclear. Members of the public are being warned to keep their distance from lone whales and dolphins that take up residence along the coast. Known as solitary sociable cetaceans (SSCs), these animals inhabit localised areas and have limited interactions with their own species, instead turning their attentions to humans. Bottlenose dolphins are the most common SSCs, but other species including beluga whales have also been known to take up residence in areas of human activity. While these individuals may socialise with humans, they remain wild animals, and attempts to interact with them are dangerous to the cetaceans as well as ourselves. Liz Sandeman is the co-founder of the charity Marine Connection, and has monitored SSCs for over 25 years. She says, 'Watching wild whales and dolphins can be very exciting, but we have to keep our distance.' 'Not only do we risk broken bones - or worse - by getting close to them, but it can also lead to the animal itself losing its wariness around us. This puts it at a much greater risk of being injured or killed by vessels, and several individuals have been lost recently because of this.' Anyone encountering a wild SSC is advised to keep their distance, and attempt to limit any interactions with the animal as much as possible.... 6. MOTTO: KINDNESS = THOUGHTFULNESS Man Creates Benches for People to Rest at Bus Stops: ‘Let’s Help Our Neighbors’ James Warren regularly takes the bus in Denver, Colorado, but after noticing something was missing at multiple stops, he took action. The problem was those stops did not have anywhere for people to sit and wait for the bus to arrive, the Washington Post reported Thursday. Earlier this year, Warren saw a woman waiting for a bus but because there was nowhere to rest she was sitting on the ground. “For people to have to sit in the dirt while they’re waiting for a bus is just undignified,” said the young man, who works with the Colorado Workforce Development Council. According to the council’s website, his role was to create a career navigation program for workforce centers while also administering grants to nonprofit organizations. To remedy the seating problem, he decided to make a bench with pieces of scrap wood. There were thousands of bus stops in Denver, but Warren still set his mind on the project. After building his first bench, he put together seven more. Warren places his mark on them by inscribing two special words into the wood. It was message he wanted everyone to hear. Photos showed one of the benches with the phrase, “Be Kind” on its seat. Another image showed the young man smiling while standing next to his handiwork: This is James Warren. He noticed that bus stops in his neighborhood didn't have any benches and people would often sit on the ground. So he went around, collected scrap wood, and started making free benches. He's already installed eight so far pic.twitter.com/iwetcuA6aI — Goodable (@Goodable) August 13, 2022 The project has proved to be a rewarding endeavor for Warren who said people are grateful for the special seating because it can be painful to stand and wait for long periods of time. Several women told him they used the benches every day, Warren commented, adding, “It fills me up. It’s air in my tires.” Warren said, “That’s the idea. Let’s just all help our neighbors.” HERE: https://resistthemainstream.org/man-creates-benches-for-people-to-rest-at-bus-stops-lets-help-our-neighbors/ - hmm, personally I don't take the bus but I walk; and moreover I never visited Denver...too bad
  7. Cool! I've never been to a bar ... And I quit smoking cigarettes in the early 80's. When I did smoke, I smoked 5-10 cigarettes a day, but I always knew that I was able to end up with that horrible stinky habit. In my youth I was never under the influence of other young people who behaved badly...but I was not an angel either.
  8. Hmm, for your RAM problems, try (is portable, free) DTaskManager - and if you click on process, you have two possibilities: Trim RAM Usage, and Trim RAM to all processes. But my PC works good already, so ... "this never improved process performance apparently, here. I didn't see any improvement."
  9. Mina, I think, that when you have lived something unpleasant... even difficult to agree with, at the level of well being of yourself, family, friends etc... it's better to move on (but not forgetting); thinking rather of present and future, than constantly about the past. You can't change the facts that are there. On the other hand you can improve the present and future of the things that concern you, your family, your friends and acquaintances, think rather of their present and future... I wish you the best of course! Time is...: https://time.is/
  10. This makes me happy, hold on!
  11. Tea drinkers, meet here! Researchers find DNA traces of 400 insects in tea bags - consumers could help science What DNA traces do insects leave on plants? Tea bags make that visible. (Symbolic image) © Imago Just like in a detective story: researchers at the University of Trier examine tea bags for DNA traces. Their findings provide clues to species extinction - and could make tea drinkers important informants. Trier - "We examined commercially available teas and herbs and found DNA from up to 400 different insect species in a single tea bag," says Henrik krehenwinkel, junior professor of biogeography from Trier. In his study, he and his team made important investigations into insect mortality and biodiversity. Which bee pollinated the flower? Which beetle crawled over the flower stalk, which louse ate its way through a leaf? Researchers can make all this visible in the laboratory. Insect DNA in tea bags: Here's what science can read from it The groundbreaking novelty of the scientific method: Because UV rays or rain normally cause the DNA traces to disappear, research on this is otherwise difficult. By having the leaves in the tea in a dried state, it is now possible to see what traces the insects leave behind inside a plant, he said. "Now we can also detect which insects live inside the plant," says Henrik Krehenwinkel, describing the new horizon of knowledge. Insect DNA in tea bags: Could consumers become important informants for science? What the researchers are now particularly interested in: Are certain insect species disappearing along with certain plant species? The method would provide particularly good evidence of the interrelationships between plants and animals. A look into the future for consumers and tea lovers: "We are currently working on simplifying the protocol of our method so that school classes can work with it," says Krehenwinkel. "In the long term, this could turn into a citizen science project in which citizens as well as individuals conduct research in the field of biodiversity." And what already sounds like a detective story could actually still have a use for forensic science: The technique of detecting DNA traces in dried plants could be of interest to customs officials, for example, when importing protected plant species, or when finding drugs. According to Stiftung Warentest, green teas are often contaminated with harmful substances. (kat) HERE: https://www.merkur.de/verbraucher/teebeutel-forscher-dna-spuren-insekten-artensterben-91624282.html - So could you look in your tea bags and tell us how many insect tracks you might find today, please? Thank you!
  12. Try. Now, please...
  13. Chiari malformation This Latina doctor survived six brain surgeries and now cares for patients: "I want to give them hope." A stroke paralyzed her body: "I had to learn how to do absolutely everything". She was advised to forget her dream, but she didn't give up: "I didn't think I was going to make it, but I was persistent, I wanted to prove, not to others but to myself, that I could do it". Survived six brain surgeries and was left paralyzed: now a doctor at the same hospital that saved her 02:09 Aug. 11, 2022, 1:19 PM UTC A Latina doctor who survived six brain surgeries and a stroke now sees patients as a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at the same Texas hospital where she was saved. "In medical school you learn many things, except how to be a patient," she told Telemundo News. Claudia Martinez, 31, is a third-year resident physician at TIRR Memorial Hermann, a teaching hospital of Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Like many Latinos, Martinez is the first to receive a college education in her family. Her maternal grandparents migrated from Mexico to California and her dad is originally from New Mexico. "I'm also the first doctor," she added. When she was still a student, she began to suffer symptoms that forced her to visit a specialist. "I started with headaches and my arms and legs became weak," she told Telemundo News. In 2011 she was diagnosed with a disease known as Chiari malformation, which causes brain tissue to extend into the spinal cord, and can cause paralysis. Since being diagnosed, the young doctor underwent six brain surgeries, the first in 2012 and the last in 2017, and then suffered a stroke that paralyzed her from the neck down and left her unable to walk, write, or use a computer. In the midst of his recovery at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital, he had to attend therapies for a year and learned to do everything again. Her mother was her main support in the midst of adversity and her dad the inspiration to keep going through her treatment and studies. "All my life I have seen my dad work hard to give me the education he didn't have, so I wanted to do everything I could to become a doctor," she said. After a long struggle and even hearing many doctors tell her she couldn't practice, Claudia graduated and began to inspire her colleagues and her community. On Instagram, she has more than 45,000 followers. "I share my story so people can see that we can do everything that a person without a disability can do," he assures. She decided to do her residency at the same hospital where she was treated because she remembers that this was the place where her now colleagues told her that she would be able to. That's the same thing she tells her patients "to give them hope." For now Claudia is making progress in her recovery. Her hands do not have the same sensitivity as before as a sequel to her surgeries and the stroke. Her message, she says, is also for more Latinos in the medical community. "That also inspired me," she said. HERE: https://www.telemundo.com/noticias/noticias-telemundo/historias-de-vida/esta-doctora-latina-sobrevivio-a-seis-cirugias-cerebrales-y-ahora-atie-rcna42606

  19. What a weird posting you have written...I think you are under the very bad influence of mental drugs. Go to your doctor and ask to stop the drugs, please. I write what I think of course, I'm not a doctor, so you do what you want, but do something definitively, now, never too late. Never give up - you're a MAN. Yesterday I've sent you a very urgent post in another pretty topic (see it on the previous page below)...ALL I write is from my heart, I confirm it once again... 21. Mina, I'm sorry that some of my posts are confusing to you... maybe my English? I am not a native English speaker, so...
  22. In Process Hacker/Miscellaneous/Reduce Working Set - this one reduce truly working set, so memory, but this never improved process performance apparently, here. I didn't see any improvement. And in Wise Registry Cleaner 7 - you've "System Tuneup" button with 25 tuneups - but I've never used these.
  23. Personnally, this kind of "meditation" videos - it's not my taste...but everyone has his preferences, OK.
  24. @XPerceniol thank you for these thoughts! This is how I work here: if I find something on the web, that I like, I share it with all of you, that's all, no personal suggestions.
