  1. HELP PLEASE! I need to ask all the "UOC'ed" users to do a little test for me. Please, go to about:config in your Patched browser, and set the following values to True: webgl.enable-prototype-webgl2 webgl.min_capability_mode webgl.webgl2-compat-mode webgl.disable-DOM-blit-uploads Let me know if you notice improved performance and scrolling. If so, I will implement those in the next version of the UOC Patch, changing build number. If you don't notice any improvement, I will just scrap them.
  2. I'd rather prefer people to re-download for a simple reason: sometimes I edit even more than just one parameter, and due to my limited time, I prefer to optimize my resources by just uploading the updated version. Pardon me, but my job takes a lot of my free time away and is already a big task to work on the Patch as well. Nonetheless, I try to do my best, even though I could use a vacation... 😅
  3. UPDATE! I have increased the amount of content process count to 10. This has greatly improved performance on my Tualatin RDD. I still haven't written a readme file though, as I don't have enough time right now, but maybe it might come these days or anytime soon. Please update to the newest version of the UOC Patch!
  4. UPDATE! I have reduced the content process count back to 4 on all the versions of the UOC Patch. Keeping it to 8 did not seem to bring any additional improvement in performance. Please update! I will keep experimenting with different values, maybe I can find something that can increase performance even further. We'll see.
  5. Yes, it is. So far I never had issues because of the lack of SSE2. It's not that vital to me. I don't like the Pentium 4, even though I have a working Willamette system at work. I'd rather use an Athlon 64 if there's a motherboard for it that supports dual floppy drives, and if I'd really need SSE2. So far, I don't.
  6. I'm sorry but I do not plan to migrate the UOC Patch to Github/Gitlab. I never understood how those sites work and I do not have the time to figure out how to use them as well as not knowing if I could manage them through the RDD. I am sticking to Mediafire because I do not want to rely on a more modern computer just to upload a revised build. Sorry.
  7. UPDATE! I have disabled the apz.use_paint_duration option, as keeping it set to False seems to make scrolling faster and smoother. This on all the versions of the UOC Patch. On the 45 ESR version, on the other hand, I also have reduced the tile size to the minimum possible, 1x1. This has produced another speed-up, at least on my machine. I have not touched the parameters mentioned by @Mathwiz as it seems that disabling them negatively affect performance, especially disabling privacy.resistFingerprinting. Please update to the newest version of the UOC Patch! EDIT: updated again. This time on all the versions, setting canvas.poisondata set to True, seems to make the browsing experience snappier.
  8. NEWS! After some testing on different platforms, I have noticed that SeaMonkey, at least version 2.48, has a broken implementation of Asynchronous Pan and Zoom (APZ), so if you use the 45 ESR version of the UOC Patch, previously recommended for that browser, the scrollbars will be unusable. It is not a fault of the Patch, but a bug in the APZ implementation that has never been fixed. So, in order to speed up and optimize SeaMonkey, you will have to use the 52 ESR version of the UOC Patch, alongside the 45/52 ESR version of the UOC Enforcer. In that way, the browser will be optimized and run as fast as it allows to.
  9. @MathwizMathwiz please don't forget to update to the latest version of the UOC Patch and the UOC Enforcer if you still haven't.
  10. URGENT UPDATE! I have thoroughly inspected the latest update of the UOC Patch and the Enforcer, and I have found several double entries that might have been the culprits behind @sparty411's issue. Please, redownload and update! All the versions of the UOC Patch and both versions of the Enforcer have been updated. EDIT: the Patches have been updated again.
  11. Hello, unfortunately I don't own any of those cards. The ones I own are a GeForce 6800GT and an X1950 Pro. I cannot replicate the issue with those cards. Do you still have the previous version of the Patch that worked on your system? If so please, send it to me as I do not have it. Meanwhile, try to delete the entries related to APZ from the Patch. You will find them on top. See if deleting them makes a difference. EDIT: try to set the values below: pref("layers.use-deprecated-textures", true); pref("apz.overscroll.enabled", true); pref("apz.relative-update.enabled", true); pref("apz.enlarge_displayport_when_clipped", true); pref("apz.allow_zooming", true); pref("apz.cross_slide.enabled", true); pref("gl.multithreaded", true); pref("privacy.donottrackheader.enabled", true); pref("layout.css.prefixes.transforms", false); pref("prompts.tab_modal.enabled", false); pref("webgl.shader_validator", true); pref("webgl.prefer-16bpp", true); To False. Do it one by one, in order to find out the offending value. Let me know the outcomes. If you find the offending value, I will remove it from the patch.
  12. I use a very old system as my daily driver (you can find out about the machine if you read my signature) and to me, the best browser for Windows XP is @roytam1's fork of Firefox 45 ESR. That fork includes all the updates from TenFourFox, and if you use the UOC Patch and the Enforcer for that browser, you can optimize it to run better on your machine. Provided your graphics card is capable enough to accelerate it. Give them a go if you want. I'd be curious to find out how they would perform on your Pentium 4.
  13. UPDATE! Some APZ features have been implemented in all the versions of the UOC Patch and the Enforcers. It seems that they have brought additional benefits to scrolling. Please update!
  14. UPDATE! I have updated all the versions of the UOC Patch, as I have applied some tricks that further increase hardware acceleration, making scrolling smoother and faster. The tweaks work on every codebase, so please update to the latest version of the UOC Patch. On the 45 ESR version, support for multithreaded image decoding has been implemented and it seems to bring benefits even on single core machines. Thank you and happy RDDin'!
  15. @3dreal What are the specs of your machine? I do not have Facebook, but I believe that Facebook should have no issues with Firefox 45 ESR SSE by Roytam1. Back when I was on Facebook (a very short time, as I don't like social networks) it ran perfectly fine in mobile mode with the UOC Patch. If I wanted to use Facebook Messenger, I used the Facebook Messenger plugin for Pidgin. It worked wonderfully and perhaps there's a similar plugin for Miranda NG as well. About Youtube videos, you can just use YT 2 Player to automatically redirect videos to VLC, or if you really want to watch them in browser, just download GreaseMonkey and the Viewtube script, in order to replace the HTML5 player with a VLC window (once you choose VLC, of course). I watch Youtube videos at 576p without issues. Previously, with the overclocked 6800GT, I watched them at 480p. Don't forget to use UAControl to block the user agent so Youtube will switch to the old, more lightweight layout. It scrolls like butter on my Tualatin. Keep in mind you need at least a DirectX 9.0C and a 128 bit buss (256 bit is preferred) graphics card in order to enjoy the benefits of the UOC Patch. Give it a try before dumping your old computer. If I can comfortably browse the web on a Pentium III-S, you can do pretty much the same. Provided you have the suitable parts and you meet the requirements of the Patch. Why do you keep sticking to Pale Moon 27? Use Roytam1's Firefox 45 ESR SSE. Do not mix the codebases of the UOC Patch, they are different because they are not compatible for every codebase. Always start with a new profile when you install the UOC Patch and Enforcer. The old profile might be corrupted and so, cause issues. In order to replace the wrong version you have installed in Pale Moon 27, just download the right version (38 ESR) and replace it the same way you have installed it first. Remember that you cannot use the 45 ESR version of the patch on Pale Moon 27 and New Moon 27 because they use the codebase of Firefox 38 and so, they are not compatible with the 45 ESR version of the UOC Patch and Enforcer. You will have to use the 38 ESR one. The reasons are many, but the most important ones are that PM27/NM27 do not support Asynchronous Pan and Zoom, and Tiled Compositing is bugged. But as I said, I recommend you to use Firefox 45 ESR SSE. It does support Async pan/zoom and tiled compositing works. Sorry for the double post, I haven't noticed your reply before.
  16. Try using the UOC Patch and the Enforcer, if you are using an old computer. See if it makes a difference. @3dreal Why don't you try FF45 ESR SSE alongside the UOC Patch and the Enforcer?
  17. Pay attention though, my friends, the UOC Patch is not compatible with Firefox Quantum (I just call it that way to distinguish it from the "Classic" Firefox) and I do not plan to port the Patch to that browser, ever.
  18. UPDATE! I have linked here the PowerUOC Patch, a fork of the UOC Patch made exclusively for Power Macintosh systems running the TenFourFox browser. The PowerUOC Patch is a joint development by me and user z970mp at the Macrumors forum. So, if you have a Power Macintosh G3, G4 or G5 system, and you want to give it a boost with TenFourFox, notoriously known for being a quite sluggish browser, now you can with the PowerUOC Patch. However, unlike the standard UOC Patch (including the Macintosh version developed by me, for Arctic Fox) this one must be installed in a different way. Instructions are provided in the readme file that you can find in the PowerUOC archive. The 52 ESR and NM28 of the Patch have also been updated. Please update!
  19. EDIT: I have fixed the issue on both the 52 ESR and the NM28 version of the patch. It was caused by this value: pref("network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy", 2); Removing this value has restored the user avatar and the feedback count on Ebay. Please re-download and update! EDIT 2: I have implemented multithreaded image decoding but only on the 45 and 52 ESR versions of the UOC Patch. The 38 ESR and NM 28 versions haven't been touched, as they do not support E10S. Ironically, enabling multithreaded image decoding has somewhat sped up the process of loading images on my Tualatin. Never thought multithreading would work on single core systems... However, all the versions have been modified to reduce the maximum amount of rendered text per page, from 8191 to 4095. Please update!
  20. UPDATE! I have done a little update on the 45 ESR version of the UOC Patch. It seems that reducing the size of tiles to 2x2, further increased scrolling performance. Please test it and let me know if the same happens on your machine. Otherwise, I will revert the values to 4x4. :)
  21. EDIT: I have just released a New Moon 28-specific version of the UOC Patch. If you have New Moon 28, can you test it for me? Thank you very much!
  22. *UPDATE!* I have reworked all the versions of the UOC Patch and the Enforcer, as I have increased the amount of content processing the browser can do, from 0 to 4. This seemed to improve performance on my machine. I also have introduced the support for E10S both on the 45 ESR and the 52 ESR version of the Patch. On the 38 ESR version, it has not been added because 38 ESR based browsers do not support E10S. For the users of Classic Theme Restorer, I have added two options in the UOC Enforcer for 45/52 ESR based browsers that disable the animations when you click on an UI element, since they consume CPU cycles. The new build version is N2I. On the 45 ESR version of the UOC Patch, I have reduced the tile size to 4x4, because it seems that speeds up scrolling and makes it smoother. On the other hand, on 38 ESR based browsers, doing the same makes them unusable and prone to crashing, so I have left them at 512x512. I haven't touched the 52 ESR version in that aspect, as I do not have a machine where I can test the different canvas sizes, so that one has been left with the stock 256x256 parameter. If anybody of you uses a FF52 based browser with the UOC Patch, please do this test for me. In about:config, search for these the parameters below: layers.tile-width layers.tile-height They are set to 256x256 by default. Try to change them to 512x512 and let me know if you notice a difference. If you do, I will implement that in the Patch. As always, please update and let me know the outcome, and remember that the UOC Patch and the Enforcer are offered AS THEY ARE. Happy RDDin'!
  23. Hello and thank you for your feedback! First, I have to ask you if you have installed the UOC Patch for Firefox 45 ESR in the proper folder (defaults\pref). The Enforcer has been installed in the wrong directory. As @VistaLover correctly pointed out. Did you start with a clean profile? If you already modified the prefs.js in the past, there might be some issues. Also, the FX5900XT is quite borderline in terms of minimum requirements and so, the improvement in graphics acceleration might be minimal compared to say, a Geforce 6800GT. The driver version matters! On the 6800GT, Forceware 81.98 gives a much better performance with the UOC Patch. I'm not sure which Forceware version runs better with the FX series. Usually, the most effective way is to directly compare the performance between unpatched browser vs. the patched and enforced one, starting from a clean profile. That might give you a better idea of the performance improvement. I am working on a new version of the UOC Patch, I might release it today if I have the time. Once done, please update.
