I'll skip it and stick with 10/11 until the bitter end.

No matter how we turn it, Windows 10 and 11 will be the next 7 and 8.1, who are the next XP and Vista.

Windows 10 will probably receive Firefox Updates till 2029 if not 2030 (four years after EOL) and Chrome till 2028 (?)

@yoltboy01 I made it! Even on Windows 7, although I had to swap a fair amount of functions. On Windows 8.1, in the libcef.dll file, replace the missing imports from NETAPI32 with NetGetJoinInformation. And add --no-sandbox of course :)

Wow - great work! Very nice to see actually

I totally forgot that you have to put --no-sandbox on Spotify as well. Good to know tho

Don't do it this way, it has to end like this....
Name that netapi32 as netapi33, copy it to system32 and rename the import in CFF Explorer.

I know I can copy from Windows 10, but it will be a while before I install it on VM and download Spotify.

Ah alright, I havent thought about that. If you try that out, I would love to hear if it works

  4. I already tried that out. Copying netapi32 from Windows 10 22H2 to 8.1, will prevent Windows 8.1 from loading the User profiles. You can‘t sign in.

By the way, you just have to copy your Spotify folder from Windows 10 to 8.1

  5. Hmm interesting but I already saw that coming, since Steam relies on an Embedded Chromium framework (Steam Browser In-Game). Their current one is based on Chromium 85.

Same goes for Spotify by the way. We should have an easier procedure on Windows 8.1, than on Windows 7, but I haven‘t found a way yet. I tried making Spotify 1.2.7 (Chromium 110) run on Windows 8.1, but there are two functions added in net32api (Azure Active Directory Join Information Functions) : NetFreeAadJoinInformation and NetGetAadJoinInformation. I don‘t know with what function we could replace those

Office v2304 works on windows 8.1.

I used a tool from MDL (My Digital Life), who is called Office C2R Extender for Windows 8.1 which bypasses the version restriction and allow newer office versions to be installed. The tool was made by abbodi1406

Very nice to know - thank you!

MS also ended Office 365 Support for Windows 8.0 with 2002 but I remember 2005 and 2006 worked on 8.0

Wow man, this is great! I hope it continues that way.

The problem is that all websites, regardless if they are Settings or Web, crash in approximantly 30sec-1 minute and you have to reload every time. I don't know why that happens but I encountered that with v113 as well as v114 and I don't think Google with fix that for us :) nonetheless, I am very happy that we already got 5 newer versions of Chrome(ium) to run on 8.1 at least.

I feel a little nostalgic when I look at 7 and 8.1, as they remind me of XP and Vista. 8.1 is much closer to Windows 10, so we encounter less bugs than with Windows 7 on mutliple softwares. I don't know if anyone managed to get Chromium 111+ working on 7

  8. Does anyone know a way in how to spoof Windows 10 as the Main OS version on Windows 8.1? I know that newer Office versions, such as 2303 were compatible with 8.1 but Microsoft closed the Beta Program for 8.1. I want to spoof my OS version but it didnt work work with osver.ini hack I saw on Vista. Any ideas?

  9. Spotify 1.2.7 no longer works on Windows 7, as api-ms-win-core-winrt-l1-1-0.dll is missing. That one was introduced with Windows 8.0

I haven’t checked compatibility with Windows 8.x yet

Edit: On Windows 8.1 it says NetFreeAadJoinInformation could not be found in libcef.dll. After investigating a little I found out that libcef.dll is an embedded Chromium Framework, which is now based on Chromium 110. That one was compatible with Windows 8, with some bypasses

  10. Well, now that Office v2304 Insider is out, I wanted to test it doing the same method as I stated above, however I can't search for updates on older Office releases anymore. It simply says "Office is up-to-date" when I join the beta program. So, Microsoft must have noticed and blocked searching/installing betas on Windows 8.1

V2301 was the last officially supported

V2302 works when you join Release Preview

V2303 worked (can no longer be downloaded)

    V2304 ? , cant be downloaded

Oh man, I didn't think of this method. Thanks, I'll go test it.

That‘s what I usually do when you cannot extract the Files properly.

Other topic: I use a notes app for college, which is called „Anki“, however they dropped support for 7/8.1 in October 2021. The last version to support them was 2.1.49 - starting with 2.1.50 it requires Windows 10 and is based on QT5/6. I‘m wondering if anyone knows how to backport it since QT5 is supported by 7/8.1. I get errors because it says it can’t load/find the Dark Mode libraries found in 10+ other than that the App starts but crashes immediately

  12. So your „Extended Kernel“ won‘t even be based on Windows 8.1 but rather on Windows 10‘s Technical Preview? All you would have to do is to debomb it and than you want to call it Windows 8.1 Extended Kernel? Doesn‘t seem right to me. You should rather focus on Build 9600, as I think most of the Windows 8.1 users wan‘t to stay on that version for a reason.

Furthermore, is there any news about how to get Chromium 113 on 8.1 ?
