  1. I was curious to know if it is possible to make Internet Explorer 9 usable nowadays. I searched up IE9 tweaks but I didnt understand anything. I wanted to ask in particular, if it is possible to somehow make YouTube and other Google Apps working again? A few years ago, there was an addon called Google Chrome Frame, which was updated till v34 I think that allowed IE6-9 users to benefit from the Chrome rendering engine. But Google stopped developing it and now I dont know what else to do with IE9

    I actually did manage to get both running eventually with the help of R3n from eclipse and thanks to win32 to make this possible, mspaint gave the same error as wmp12 which makes me believe its pretty close to be workable

    Stunning! I hated Windows Vista's calculator, it was basically XP's with Aero. However, the Windows 7 Calculator fits Windows Vista way better.

    Win32, you should really work at Microsoft. You do their job better

  3. Maybe WMP12 (and hopefully other Media Software like Spotify) will work with the next version of Extended Kernel. I hope we will someday have latest Skype, Spotify, OneDrive and OneNote working on Vista.

    I wanted to upload a "Windows Vista AIO April 2017" version to archive.org. I don't know if a version with Extended Kernel included is allowed, probably not, but with that we don't always need to update Vista first, after reinstalling it. I think I will include IE9 patches till June 2019, working WSUS server, and the Root Certificate Update. I lately saw that they havent updated their Vista database for years now, however they keep pushing new XP, Win7-Win10 ISOs but exclude Vista.

    If you have any wish what I could include into the ISO File, before uploading you can comment.

  4. Hey guys.

    It's late and I was curious to know if it possible to make an incompatible graphics card driver compatible with Windows 10? My graphics is:

    Intel GMA 3150 (Netbook)

    It was updated in late 2010 or 2011 for the last time and only supports XP up to Windows 10 (1511)

    Starting with 1607, everything just feels very buggy, no menu loads up fluently and the whole experience is a mess. I also noticed the same issue with Windows 8, after installing patches after 2019. It's not as bad as it is with Windows 10, however the charms bar doesnt show up fluently or the Apps start like there are only standard WDM Drivers installed.

    Is there any way how to run newer W10 versions?

    About that... Windows 8.1 is in very weird state. they seem to forgot about it :D The installer downloads 2021.2 and then upgrades itself to 2021.3. Windows 7 does not work (tested it).

    Generally speaking, I think Windows 8.1 will be treated like Vista when it comes to Supported Software. To be fair, the following companies should have separated XP‘s EOL from Vista‘s EOL:

    Google:

    Chrome support ended 2 years after XP’s EOL in 2016 with v49. If they would have done the same 2 year hiatus after Vista‘s EOL, we would probably have Chrome up to v73/74.

    Mozilla:

    Firefox XP users functionality updates nearly 3 years after EOL. Imagine, Vista‘s EOL was in 2017 and additional 3 years would mean that users could have possibly be at Firefox v68 ESR/78ESR

    Microsoft:

    To be really honest with you guys, Microsoft did the most sh*t, when it comes to Software Compatibility with Vista.

    1. It literally came with WMP 11 and stayed with it until EOL, although 12 was pre-released, 2 YEARS after Vista‘s release. XP on the other hand, came with WMP 6 (?) and got all the way up to WMP 11??

    2. Microsoft Live Essentials 2012 was a heavy improvement over 2011 and I‘m sure that Vista could have ran that software easily

    3. Internet Explorer 9 is the biggest cra* browser that is still updated nowadays. Please never tell me that this browser is good. I was mad that MS stopped producing IE and replaced it with Edge. That‘s so confusing in Windows 10 with two browsers but anyways.. IE9 was released in early 2011, when Vista was 3 years old. However, Vista‘s Mainstream Support ended in 2012, which means that never IE versions could have definitely be ported to it as well. If they would have released new IE versions annually, XP should gave gotten IE9/10 and Vista 11+.

    Why I am so mad? Because when we speak of Vista, we also mean Server 2008 SP2. An operating system, which is used in bigger companies and businesses. What‘s the point of updating IE9 for sooooo long, if businesses cant do anything, not even check E-Mails anymore? Server 2008 is my biggest argument for these unjustified EOL‘s. My father‘s company still relies on that OS with ESU on it now, but everytime I see Vista/Server 2008, a bitter irony floats through me: the only still secure browser is Internet Explorer 9 and it‘s basically useless. Anything that scores below 300 HTML5 points cant be used properly to browse the web anymore

    Who can help me instal this kernel??

    It‘s very simple.

    I dont know if you use Vista as your main OS or as a VM but you need a machine running Vista SP2 (64 Bit).

    1. Make sure you have all the updates installed till EOL (04/2017) - you cannot get them from Windows Update anymore, since WU was shut down on Vista back in August 2020. You need to run a Tool called WindowsPatchLoader 2.0, from where you can downlod all Updates for Vista till 2021/04. Please dont patch your system till that date, it will crash after installing Extended Kernel. Go as far as 04/2017!

    2. After downloading all 2010-2017 Updates, download a programm called Dism++, which can apply all these updates to your system. Therefore, you need to go to the Update Management section and press Add, locate the folder where the downloaded updates are and select them all. It may take 20-70 minutes, depending on your PC specs

    3. Now visit the Mega website, where the Extended Kernel was uploaded to and download the zip file.

    4. Unpack the zip, and run the file vistaextendedkernel as an administrator. It will open a CMD popup, which you only have to press any key for to install. (takes 2 seconds..)

    5. After the install finishes, reboot the PC/VM

    6. Now you have the Extended Kernel!!

    Note: If you apply any further Security patch, the Kernel32.dll file will automatically be replaced again, with the original, unmodified Vista one

    * Exception: You can install Internet Explorer 9 patches, they wont affect the Kernel. You can Patch IE9 till 01/2020 without any trouble

    I can suggest using Windows 8.1 with classic shell. This little notebook needs every single performance help it can get. Using old not supported windows 10 is just a bad idea by me. Windows 8.1 is the fastest os for slow machine like this one and still gets security updates. It's on you but I suggest downgrading to win 8

    Thanks for your answer! I know, I installed Windows 8(.1) on this old machine and it is really the fastest after Windows XP. Windows 7 was praised for being super duper fast but is soo slow I cant.. Windows 10 1507/1511 are as „fast“ as Windows 7. They really need 40-70 seconds for booting up, while 8.0 only needed 9 seconds. However, I feel like it‘s such a shame that I wont be able to use Windows 8.1‘s full potential on that machine, since it only has a 1024x600 resolution, which isnt enough to run metro apps.

  8. Hey guys, I am having a Netbook (Inspiron Mini 1012) with Windows 7 Starter preinstalled. I replaced the 1GB RAM Chip as well the 160GB HDD with 2GB RAM and 120GB SSD. Furthermore, the netbook has an Intel Atom N450, as well as a Intel GMA 3150 Graphics chip.

    I can install Windows 10 (1507) as well as 1511, however starting with the Anniversary Update (1607), the Graphics are very buggy and the system becomes unstable. I even used NTLite, to make a Lite version of 1607, however it still does not provide any speed improvements. Everything that comes after 1607 is a catastrophe.

    What can I do to improve speed and can I make the Graphics somehow compatible with 1607?

    ok i want to install the extended kernel on my laptop. since my main has it. but vista isnt up to date. and every time i use windows update. i get Error 80072EFE. so how am i going to get to the latest patch level? btw this laptop has these updates

    Go and download a tool called "WindowsPatchLoader" as well as "Dism++". Open the Zip folder from Patch Loader and launch the WindowsPatchLoader 2.0 Application. Now select your Operating System, as well as the architecture (Vista, x64) and a whole bunch of updates will be shown (from 2008-2021). Uncheck the first 50 I guess, since they include SP1 and SP2, which are already installed on your machine. I would recommend you to only download 2010-2018 Updates and if you really want extra security, go till 01/2020. After they finished downloading, launch Dism++ and go to Updates Management. Here you press "Add" and now select all the previous downloaded updates. Dism++ will apply all of the selected updates to your PC now. After that, go restart your PC and voilà.. your Vista system is patched and ready for Extended Kernel.

    ATTENTION!:

    1. In order to download the applications, first be sure you use Firefox 52.9 ESR, as IE9 may not be able to open the websites

    2. Speaking of IE9, please be sure that you have installed it on your system, since some updates may be IE9-patches, which include TLS1.1/1.2 support + additional security (ONLY IF YOU ARE USING IE9!)

    3. I would always recommend you to only install like 100 Updates at once to avoid any errors during Reboot!

    I tried by copying office files from a windows 10 install, it's mostly works but i get some problems :

    Missing API in kernel32 when opening outlook (replaced "getsystemtimepreciseasfiletime" with "getsystemtimeasfiletime") after it crashes when selecting a email address

    Powerpoint cannot open because of an missing api-ms-win-shcore-* file after you copied the file from a windows 8.1 install, it's working perfectly fine

    erreur outlook v2011.png

    erreur powerpoint v2011.png

    Wow thank you for trying it out! How did you manage to even install never Office 365 versions in Windows 7?  Did you just copy the Office folder from W8+ to Windows 7? Can I use Word without any issues? Are Updates working, or is it still blurred out?

  11. Hey guys,

    I was curious to know if it is possible to install newer Office 365 versions than v2002 (which only receives security updates)? I searched a lot but I couldnt find any topic regarding that question, so does anyone know it it is possible?

    I recently started a separate site with more details on the extended kernel. You can find it by searching "eclipse" and the TLD for Christmas Island.

    But yes, I am trying more invasive methods of version spoofing, which have worked for the .NET Core 5.0 installer, but make Steam think it's offline, while Office has yet to be tested.

    Thanks win32, your the best!

  13. Lol I just found out that Extended Kernel is  mentioned in the official Windows Vista Wikipedia page (at least the German page). It basically says that an unofficial kernel was released to Vista in August 2020 that adds Win7 SP1 APIs to Vista, allowing modern Firefox/Chrome to run.

    i dont use extemded kernel , i have i5-2400 cpu  , I lost the other 2gb of ram due to an unknow failure of it

    Well then I wouldnt recommend you the 64bit version, or even Vista itself for several reasons:

    1. Without Extended Kernel, you wont be able to use the Web in a secure way anymore

    2. You will need to manually patch your system a lot , to make it as secure as possible (Offical: 04/2017) since Windows Update isnt working on Vista anymore

    3. Office 2010 has reached it's EOL as well, however it's still pretty usable for a few months more I guess

    I know we all love and support Vista, however, I wouldnt install it in your case actually. I would recommend you to go with Windows 7 Home Premium (32 Bit) instead. Patching Vista soo much with only 2GB of RAM and a 2011 CPU will make your system feel very slow and heavy.

    There are AIO ISO's of Windows 7 available, which I can send their links to you, if you're interested in 7 instead of Vista, so you dont have to patch the system manually for hours :)

  15. Hey guys. I was curious about if Windows 10 Apps can be deployed on Windows 8.1, since Windows 8.1's Store has become so poor of good Apps. A few years ago, I used Facebook on 8.1, however it is no longer available. Is there a way in how to backport Apps or are Windows 10 Apps based on a different base? It is so sad that even the MSN Apps are unsupported. I feel like Metro makes no sense, so many Apps are just unsupported

  16. I really liked Vista, since it's day of release, however I think that since the release of Windows 7, Microsoft totally messed up with Vista and trated it like crap. Same goes for Server 2008 R1. It's such a shame that IE9 (2011) is the last version of IE available both of them, especially since they decided to extend the support till 2023. IE9 is totally useless for private as well as business work for at least 5 years now: No YouTube, no Office-online, not even the Google Homepage is shown in its modern design. How do they think companies will profit from their Extended Support Offer, when IE9 is the last "big browser" that still gets patched. Firefox 52.9/Chrome 49 are no solutions in 2020/2021. They are patching a dinosaur, who wont get younger through the patches. They totally messed that up. What they could have done (since Vista would could supported it) was to release AT LEAST IE10 to Vista/Server 2008, since it's HTML5 performance is much better than the one of IE9. Nowadays, every browser that scores below 250 HTML5 points cant be used to browse the web fluently anymore. They should have also not stopped with IE development in general . There should have been an IE12 alongside Windows 10, but thats another story. Coming back the Vista, Microsoft could have rolled out feature updates for IE9, like IE9 SP1 ir IE9.1, IE9.2.. which could have improved CSS and HTML5 support. Personally, I would be so emberessed, if I would have been business leader and my PCs cant even check Mails because their Browser cant realy do anything.

    Further examples for messed up Vista- support are:

    -> Office 2013/365

    -> Movie Maker 2012

    -> Skype

    -> OneDrive

    -> .. go on

  17. I will definitely continue to use Windows 8.1. I think the Embedded version is supported for a few more months till 10/2023 if I remember it correctly. I will deploy these updates after EOL. Furthermore, I think Firefox will support 8.1 until 2023. At the end, they will probably move Windows 8.1 to Firefox ESR. However, we are already benefiting from a modern web right now and I think even when Browsers shut support, we wont get any HTML5 issues in near future. Edge will end support as soon as Chrome ends support. I have a bad gut feeling when it comes to Chrome. I think it will end Windows 7 this year and maybe 8.1 at the same time like they did with Windows XP/Vista. Internet Explorer will be the final supported browser, coming to an end at the EOL Date and patachble till 10/2023 with Embedded Updates. It will probably be the safest, but definitely not the most modern in 10/2023

  18. Hey guys. I recently found my very old Netbook, while I was down in the basement. It was still running Windows XP Home and I think the last time I used it was 2014? Couldnt find any newer data than 04/2014 on it but anyways.. as you all know Windows XP was discontinued on that date and now I want to use that Netbook again for Word, OneDrive and maybe some research. However, I am very unsure to which OS I should upgrade that specific Netbook. The specs are:

    Dell Inspiron mini 1012

    Intel Atom N450 - Single 1,66 GHz

    2GB DDR2 - RAM

    10,1 inch screen (1024x600)

    140GB Crucial SSD

    4400maH Battery (~3:30 hours SOT with XP)

    I am very unsure, as I think every OS has is Pro's and Con's which I listed down below:

    XP: Cannot use it anymore, no newer software support, I dont like it's design and think it is not modern enough for 2021. However, it is amazingly fast

    Vista: Same as XP. I would need the 64bit version to install Extended Kernel and get newer browsers, however I think Vista needs to be patched a lot before all of that and it is just not worth it on this Netbook. This single core doesnt allow 64bit

    7: Seems to be the best version tbh., every major app still works, it looks so beatiful, doesnt consumes a lot of Ram..

    8/8.1: Tbh, I think Windows 8 is the fastest out of all of them BUUTT this Netbook isnt Win8 optimized at all, especially because Windows 8 Apps recuire a higher screen resultion than 1024x600

    10: It is the slowest out of all of them and only works till 1607. Starting with 1703, Intel no longer provide Graphics Drivers for Intel GMA 3150. I think the only Windows 10 versions working on this netbook are 1507/1607 LTSB. However, I cannot buy LTSB licences anywhere for private usage. I also think 10 is way too heavy for a single core Processor.

    What do you guys think?
