  1. Hi Are you absolutely sure about KB820888, KB839645, and KB890859 - those are definately part of USP 5.0, and they didn't show up on WU last time I checked. Hmmm... if they did show up, was this before or after you installed IE6? Or both? Have anyone else experienced that those hotfixes show up? They won't change any files - KB820888 NTFS.SYS 5.0.2195.6753 < USP 5.0 NTFS.SYS 5.0.2195.7049 KB839645 SHELL32.DLL 5.0.3900.6922 < USP 5.0 SHELL32.DLL 5.0.3900.7040 KB890859 WINLOGON.EXE 5.0.2195.6970 < USP 5.0 WINLOGON.EXE 5.0.2195.7031 (etc etc etc) It's definately an error that they show up on WU though. The other dl's will be in USP 5.1 (well, maybe not the dotnetfx - at least not in the USP 5.1 basic edition) Best regards Gurgelmeyer
  2. PS - Hopefully there'll be a mirror site soon
  3. Just a quick update: have worked a bit on USP 5.0 SR-1, which will include new hotfixes and the reissued MSURP1 (hopefully they'll release it soon). Mostly working on USP 5.1 - having my bit of fun with the Active Setup thingy - again. (What a strange invention - Active Setup that is) Best regards Gurgelmeyer B)
  4. Nothing quite like DOS 5 / Win 3.1 on a 2.4GHz P4 Voted "Me" - that's the fastest out-of-the-box 32-bit OS (well almost 32-bit) I've tried yet. Too bad it was so buggy - I'll just stick with W2K and nLite
  5. @x243 - You got it right - best to leave the svcpack.in_ alone. If you want to /integrate any hotfixes, expand svcpack.in_ to svcpack.inf first (otherwise the hotfix /integrate deletes it) - I'll just do some more tests
  6. That went well - now booting W2K from a 160GB system partition - are we really the first to think about this?? Maybe - anyway, it's a nice feature for USP 5.1 Anyway - also tested the winnt32.exe /cmdcons /unattended from GuiRunOnce - it does seem to work. Are you sure you expanded the svcpack.in_ before you did anything else with the slipstreamed image? It is not empty - it installs an awful lot of .cat's. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  7. Formatting a 160GB IDE in text mode right now. Had to rip my usb disk out of its case and mount it in my small test pc.
  8. Hi Usually all ATAPI drives are limited to 127GB in W2K - this is a known limitation (nothing to do with nLite or USP5). You may however enable 48 bit LBA (>127GB support) in SP3 and later by adding the registry setting described here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;305098 (It might be possible to edit the SETUPREG.HIV to enable 48 bit LBA from text mode setup and onwards.) I have no trouble with i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons - strange I'll keep testing though - and if there's a bug I'll find it!! Trust me Best regards Gurgemleyer B)
  9. @x243 - You have a WINNT32.LOG in your win dir? It seems to install fine when not doing an unattended install, so it must be related to the unattended setup. I'm trying to reproduce
  10. You're welcome Any roumours about the re-issued MS URP1 yet? I'm planning a Service Release 1 of USP 5.0 when the time comes - I also got a handful of August 2005 hotfixes for USP 5.0 SR-1 that wont be part of the reissued MS URP1 (THANK YOU TO YOU-KNOW-WHO-YOU-ARE - you ROCK ). Fixed a minor error in MS URP1 (it suppresses OE55/Q823353 on WU, but doesn't include all the shared files from this update). Otherwise I'm working on version 5.1 - this one will include BITS 2.0, MSI 3.1, WUv6 ActiveX controls, IE6, more security updates etc. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  11. Haven't got a HD that big - but it seems to run fine in SP2 with and without the EnableBigLBA=1 If there were any problems it probably wouldn't run at all - but it runs. And the 137GB limit is not in the OS, it's only in atapi.sys, so it is really unlikely that you wont be able to cross the 137GB barrier in SP2 with the updated atapi.sys and the reg setting B)
  12. @At0mic - Thanks - I appreciate it a lot @The BigSabowski - Thanks to you too - about the MSURP1: you dont necessarily want it. It shows up on WU because - I don't include the FS Filter Driver - a very DRM-friendly component, which runs in kernel mode and was introduced by the MSURP1 - three days before mainstream support ended. It has never been part of w2k anyway. - I rolled back the HALMACPI.DLL to a previous post-sp4 version. MS probably won't fix the CPU/HALT problem (can't even seem to find a KB on it), and the problems which are fixed in the URP1 HALMACPI are also fixed in the post-sp4 version included. Otherwise the MS URP1 is fully included. But anyone who wants want better DRM support should be allowed to dl the official MS URP1 - I'm deliberately not doing anything to suppress it on WU B) @x243 - Those packages are only temporary until USP 5.1 - but try /q /n /z Best regards Gurgelmeyer
  13. Hmm -- seems that the SP4 version of atapi.sys actually works in SP2
  14. I though about suggesting the SP3 atapi.sys, but I then noticed the 214,938 bytes update.inf in the KB, which made me wonder if more registry settings are required for the SP3/SP4 atapi.sys to operate in SP2. Best regards Gurgelmeyer
  15. Does anyone want to mirror the dl's? If anyone knows how to upload the USP5 to some public server (like Gape's 98SE SP), please do so. Generally, you may do as you please with the USP5 as far as I am concerned - but don't change anything if you pass it on, and please include everything from the .zip file. Best regards Gurgelmeyer B)
  16. 48 bit LBA was introduced in Windows 2000 SP3. Here's the KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;305098 Gurgelmeyer B)
  17. @kyvlle - You found a bug!! it has been fixed, please dl again. Everyone else: this bug does not affect integrated installs at all - no reason for dl'ing again if you're integrating or haven't experienced the problem. I apologize for the inconvenience anyway.... @aadipa - ....especially to YOU - I'm not the server admin, so I couldn't tell if anyone were dl'ing while I switched the link. I'll post a big fat warning in here 24 hours before I update anything in the future.
  18. You may use a gold/sp1/sp2/sp3/sp4 image for slipstreaming - gold or sp4 is recommended. Don't attempt to integrate DX - that definately won't work Btw, the IC/DA/DX packages are not "Option Packs" - the real "Option Pack" is not finished. It is usually possible to do a manual slipstream of IC.EXE and DA.EXE like this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828930 (look for the section named "Earlier versions of Update.exe") Haven't tried it with the latest IC/DA.EXE builds yet though. Gurgelmeyer B)
  19. @nateklomp - Not a problem USP 5.1 will contain the MDAC, IE6, DX9 (etc..) components. The "not-option" pack DA/DX/IC .exe's require manual integration, but it's not worth it, because they'll be part of USP 5.1. These small .exe's are only available for convenience, because they actually seem to do a better install (less registry pollution) and a cleaner uninstall than the MS installers. Also, DA and DX may be safely uninstalled - the MS versions may not be uninstalled at all. @the_guy - Thanks - no I don't know when the USP 5.1 (= USP 5.0 + Option Pack) will be finished - but it will definately not take as long as the USP 5.0, because it's basically much less complicated. I'm not very good at estimating stuff because I'm too thorough - actually I think I'm about to lose my job because of that... :(
  20. A slipstreamed SP5 image is actually SMALLER than a slipstreamed SP4 image, because the unreferenced files in DRIVER.CAB are removed.
  21. Thanks guys This might be the closest thing any of us ever comes to a "bugfree" Microsoft OS. Anyway, remember to expand the svcpack.in_ before integrating other stuff, because it's not empty. @hoak - Someone definately ought to start collecting XP/2003 updates, and I'll be more than happy to share my experience. But right now I need a break @RyanVM - do you know if you have a "complete" collection of XPSP3 fixes this far? Localized versions is something I still have to look into. So is WSUS. And it's definately time for some serious Option Pack action soon! A big THANK YOU btw to all who has helped providing hotfixes for USP5 !!!! You guys are the best
  22. Unofficial SP5 for Microsoft® Windows® 2000 is now FINAL and available for download. Gurgelmeyer B)
  23. Hi I decided to add the security fixes from June, July and August after all. All problems reported are now solved too. Expect some good news within 24 hours @Controller Khan - Don't worry - I'm not including the FS Filter Driver. It doesn't belong in W2K in my opinion Best regards Gurgelmeyer B)
  24. Hi Just realized how incredibly dull the dl page looked w/o the not-option pack components - they are back - AND: I just had to have a little fun too, so I made a new IC.EXE. Install is much faster because all reg updates are done "directly", so the "Updating this and that and registering stuff too" box won't show up after a reboot - all the work is done during install. Only bug is that you'll need to pay a visit to WU to get the most recent updates, but I'll fix that Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  25. @janerik - Because security updates often break stuff, and need hotfixes - so I prefer not to include the most recent ones. @dirtwarrior - Slipstreaming SP5 into a Gold image will give the exact same result as slipstreaming SP4 and then SP5 - I checked There is no Option Pack ready yet - lots of work need to be done. I've removed the beta components from the dl site because many confuses those with the Option Pack. The Option Pack(s) are not going to be a set of seperate components - they are going to be released as service pack 5.1a (basic), 5.1b (standard), and 5.1c (extreme). I'll still maintain service pack 5.0 as well. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
