  1. @prathapml - This is my major concern actually. There's plenty of stuff which could be added from other OS'es, but that wouldn't be legal. Nor would it be fair to MS, since those features are selling points for their later OS'es. I believe that Gape's 1.x USP's for 98SE had some Me components, which he had to remove in later versions (correct me if I'm wrong here), so the only way of doing this would be to somehow change the existing OS loader to behave like the NT 5.1+ versions. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  2. Hi Here's what I'm currently considering for 5.1 EE: - Everything from 5.1 Standard Edition - MS RDP 5.1 Client - MSCONFIG - 256 color tray icons - XP explorer icons - Icon transparency (if possible) - 98 Plus! Zip folders - Common chipset .INF "drivers" (Intel, VIA, nVidia, Sis, ...) - TweakUI 1.33 Update: these will not be part of the extreme edition for legal and/or technical reasons: - Me or XP Zip Folders - XP OS loader - Me or XP System Restore - XP Remote Desktop - IE601SP2, IE7 - WMP10 - XP Themes I might consider 3rd party software, such as free codec packages - and I'll probably write a tweak manager (a control panel "System Options" applet) myself. ANYWAY - I'd like to know what YOU want - the above list is based on the input I got on this in the original thread, but I new ideas are welcomed Thanks in advance, Gurgelmeyer B)
  3. Hi It DOES work - I did this myself about a year ago. I've often wondered what the 2K loader does differently - maybe the XP loader skips MCA and EISA checks. Does anyone know? I think I'll start an "Extreme Edition" thread... one moment Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  4. @the_guy @Targaff - Looks like both of you patched this file succesfully @Crash&Burn - I totally agree, and this is really a "must have" for the Extreme Edition (the standard 16 color tray icons are not exactly a feast for the eye ) Thanks, guys! /G
  5. Hi Just a quick update: USP 5.1 is now in beta. Everything (including IE6) integrates perfectly. Best regards Gurgelmeyer B)
  6. Yep Reason 1: That's the way they are organized on the MS SP3 and SP4 CDs. Reason 2: The 2000RKST.MSI and DTC\2000RKST.MSI files depend on the exact order (!), version, and size of the files in each cab. You can't download many those hotfixes anyway. The rename is done to make 100% sure, that the USP will interfere as little as possible with any of the original hotfixes and security updates. If you dont think they are useful, try removing them and run SigVerif OH - like an Update Rollup I'd rather not /G
  7. Sounds good Atm USP 5 SR1 seems to be all over the internet, but I might do a lot of other projects in the future Best regards & thanks Gurgelmeyer B)
  8. Yep - it's now scheduled for 5.1 Standard Edition. Gurgelmeyer B)
  9. @-I- I'm not sure myself. I could make a regular crosslinked iso without the exe-packaging. (I wouldl include a 'stub' w2ksp5.exe instead then). I'm doing everything possible to remain compatible with nLite btw. So there's a good chance that you may use nLite to remove IE6 too Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  10. Check out the old thread - some cool guy already patched the version included in USP 5 I'll consider this for the USP 5.1 Extreme Edition. Gurgelmeyer B)
  11. IC.EXE is really (!) complicated to slipstream. Wait a few more days and I'll have something better for everyone I hope Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  12. Don't bother with IC - I'm already testing the next USP (5.1 basic edition alpha), which contains IE6. It should be possible to place DX.EXE in the svcpack folder and add the line DX.EXE /Q /N /Z to the [setUpHotfixesToRun] section in svfpack.inf. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  13. I'm happy to hear that it's working with the updated nLite Gurgel B)
  14. SoftPedia, MajorGeeks, and Will, you'll receive a PM when things become ready for release Thanks a million for hosting my work - I really appreciate it Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  15. Hi Well - good thing I havent added NETFX11 yet About MDAC 2.8 SP1 I've had that question before. My concern is, that I know MSDE / MS SQL Server 7 + 2000 works well with MDAC 2.7 SP1a Refresh - but no one has been able to tell me if it runs well with MDAC 2.8 SP1 too. Actually I'd much rather add MDAC 2.8 SP1 - but I really need someone to test it with MSDE / SQL Server 7 + 2000. KB886765 is included in the current USP 5.0 SR1. It doesn't seem to cause problems. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  16. I'm building 5.1 Standard Edition right now (OOOPS - it beeped - gotta run....)
  17. That's GREAT news, Will I'll have something for you soon
  18. Trust me - I know what I'm doing. I've worked closely with Microsoft PSS for many years in the past, and I think it's fair to say that I know at least as much - if not more - than many of those guys. Don't get me wrong - they do a great job, and they are very nice ppl. But I'm still fixing their bugs. I'm sorry, but I disagree. Check out pubforum.net - this guy applies hundres of hotfixes to dozens of Terminal Servers, and never experienced any problems at all. USP 5 has fixed many BSOD's and other issues on many production servers. There are a few pre-sp4 hotfixes that still apply, but those have been rebuilt, and I'm including the rebuilt versions. (Those are not security updates availble for public download). Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  19. I don't think so - but I won't make them. The full update is the only way I can make a quality product. Sry G B) PS - I guess I could do a rollup with MSURP + the standard security updates only... but would anyone want that?
  20. Yep - just had to copy the files G B) ok. thanks. the_guy is right. Media Player 10 doesnt run under non-XP versions of Windows, especially Win2000. however, you could try using the WMP 9 files that are included in XP SP2. almost all of them should work under W2K. XP SP2 has WMP9 build 3250, while the WMP9 player offered at the Microsoft web site is WMP9 build 2980. MS would definately not like that - I better not
  21. Hi Don't worry - I will maintain four packages - the "unbloated" USP 5.0 - and the "slightly bloated" USP 5.1 Basic Edition, the "sligthly more bloated" USP 5.1 Standard Edition, and the really bloated USP 5.1 Extreme Edition.. All will be in ONE download - which will not be significantly larger than the current USP 5.0 SR1. My guess is <250 MB. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  22. Hi You may use nLite to add it - as a service pack. Or you can simple run w2ksp5.exe /integrate:<your image root> like any normal MS SP. Best regards, Gurgelmeyer B)
  23. Thanks Does HFSLIP compress better than LZX 21? You already SAVE 6MB CD space by integrating USP5 compared to SP4 Best regards, Gurgelmeyer
