  1. If either of those works on your Vista x64 with extended kernel, then by all means post something about it in the Vista Forum! Those poor extended kernel users still haven’t reported any antivirus that works except Kaspersky after all this time. (Or perhaps you have given up on the extended kernel, I wouldn’t know.)
  2. You mean Panda Free and Malwarebytes Premium are both installed? I suppose that could work with one real-time protection disabled. I once got a false positive from Panda Free while scanning with something else, but I could’ve easily forgiven that minor conflict if Panda hadn’t bricked my OS on March 11, 2015. https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-31851125
  3. @Dixel Has returned to MSFN!? You just missed your friend D.Draker: He posted as recently as Saturday but appears to be taking some time off this week. I’m sure you will get along great with Cocodile (yet another Vista x64-using Kaspersky-hater who joined while you were away). I just reviewed a March 1, 2022 post of yours in which you made the very interesting statement, “look at Prague, it’s a well known KGB nest!” Of course Avast (which I used and recommended for years) is based in Prague, which is now one of the dual headquarters of Gen Digital (the other being in Tempe, Arizona, USA where the Norton division is based). I can’t help wondering if this KGB presence in Prague (perhaps known to everyone except me) is the real reason why legacy Windows users seem to be shunning Avast/AVG products these days? 🤔
  4. The OP is fond of expansive self-quotations that increase page count as rapidly as possible, and of course he also gains reputation with every self-quotation. Malwarebytes is actually much better than SUPERAntiSpyware, so don’t waste your time with that crap! Also somewhat “Made in China” https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/glarysoft
  5. You really think it is better than Avast? I know you used Avast for a long time (as did I), and I’m prepared to believe that anything is better than Panda. Aside from the obvious fact that Avast Free is free whereas Malwarebytes Premium costs money, my only other concern was the difference in their protection scores back in 2018: https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/windows-10/october-2018/ Still, we had MSFN members (including a moderator) who spoke highly of Malwarebytes 3.5.1 long before our old “2019” thread became hyperinflated (and ultimately locked), so I’m not inclined to debate you on this point.
  6. “D.Draker” has been absent for a few days now. 🤔 Of course he can always rely on “Cocodile” to take up the slack.
  7. But you prefer to use a 5-year-old version Malwarebytes Premium yourself, which is probably a wise decision! Panda is certainly an option, just not a very good option! One thing we know about AstroSkipper is that he doesn’t like it when people try to put words in his mouth. I for one certainly took his geopolitical explanation at face value!
  8. My impression is of course quite the contrary, but thank you for honestly discussing your political viewpoint.
  9. I probably shouldn’t reply to someone who is only arguing for the sake of argument, but you will no doubt be pleased to know that you are getting on my nerves. The article was written March 12, 2015 because the debacle I mentioned on the previous page occurred on March 11, 2015. I provided further links (including one from BBC News) only because you insinuated that I might be a liar: The event was sufficiently “relevant” for me personally (I had to reinstall Windows) that I would never consider installing Panda again! If Panda was the last antivirus to support my OS, then I would get another OS! Granted, that was quite some time ago now, but old grudges die hard. I once asked AstroSkipper how long it had been since he used Norton, and he only offered some vague assurance that it had been within the last 20 years - but he gave me the “fire hose” treatment for mentioning that a “Maintenance Mode” version of Norton might still be an option for Windows XP. In a nutshell, my disappointment with this thread is that it elevates crappy security software while denigrating more effective options. My usual recommendation has been Avast, although I suspect that Kaspersky might actually be better, and perhaps Norton (but I never once paid for an antivirus in the last 15 years, so Norton wasn’t for me). If everyone would upgrade their Windows like the U.S. government advises, the we could simply rely on Microsoft’s protection, which has actually been very good since Windows 10 came out in 2015.
  10. Subject: Panda Free Antivirus Here’s a fair review: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/panda-free-antivirus
  11. Or maybe this ZDNET link (heaven forbid any of you nuts would simply assume I have no ulterior motives): https://www.zdnet.com/article/panda-antivirus-mistakenly-flags-itself-as-malware-breaks-pcs/
  12. I’m tempted to ask Cocodile if he ever actually used Panda, but the answer is obvious to me. It was a glowing review that led me to Panda near the end of 2014, but I learned my lesson the hard way in about 3 months. This really did happen - not some kind of anti-Spanish propaganda: https://www.theregister.com/2015/03/11/panda_antivirus_update_self_pwn/
  13. More precisely, AVG 18.8 will be 5 years old in November. (Of course it has the same engine as Avast 18.8, so I would expect it to be pretty good.) Thank you for sharing some details!
  14. Well I did provide a link since it wasn’t just me: It was a worldwide debacle for Panda users that occurred on March 11, 2015 (“a date that will live in infamy” - FDR). In a nutshell, Panda attacked itself as well as Windows system files, and the best solution was to reinstall Windows. Granted, that was more than 8 years ago now, and perhaps the company learned its lesson? Then again, Norton cannot really be discussed here due to opinions that were formed 15-20 years ago, so my opinion of Panda is relatively recent I suppose. Are you still using Avast 18.8? That was my preference before my Vista x86 system conked out.
  15. Subject: Panda Panda is a Western antivirus that still supports Windows XP in 2023!?Sounds too good to be true, right? Unfortunately, here is a cautionary tale about the hazards of relying on second-rate security software: https://www.theregister.com/2015/03/11/panda_antivirus_update_self_pwn/ That really happened, and I was one of Panda’s victims. I am not the only MSFN member who is unimpressed by Panda. @Milkinis gave quite a critique in his March 14 post. I recall that @mina7601 was also dissatisfied with Panda, and would be interested in knowing why.
  16. Welcome to MSFN Saxon! Your profile shows that you are actually running Vista x86, which is my old favorite! You can find an amazing list of software for it, including a much more complete list of Antivirus & Security Software, in the first post of this thread: https://msfn.org/board/topic/175262-last-versions-of-software-for-windows-vista-and-windows-server-2008/
  17. The Kaspersky-hating forum clique will use any pretext to suppress dissent. Thanks again for your reply.
  18. I thought it might be beneficial to hear from an MSFN member who actually uses a legacy version of Kaspersky, and I thank @winvispixp for his speedy reply! True, he is actually running Vista x64 with extended kernel, but so is D.Draker/Cocodile. I wonder how many pages must be devoted to tiresome self-quotations by the overly verbose OP?
  19. @winvispixp Another Vista x64 user says Kaspersky “injects malicious java code in ones browser” (see above). Have you experienced any problems worth mentioning with Kaspersky?
  20. The concerns of the governments of Germany and the United States were already mentioned on the previous page. I live in the United States and do not use Kaspersky. Has the government of France issued a similar advisory? Would it surprise anyone to hear that the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) also advised in 2019 “upgrading any EOL OSs no longer supported by Microsoft to a newer, supported OS, such as Windows 10”? I won’t hold my breath waiting for MSFN members to heed that warning - but with my Vista PC currently in a nonfunctional state, I suppose I am in compliance with that government advice. Let’s not forget that the U.S. government has also warned about the threat posed by TikTok, which is an extremely popular app here. (Even someone who ran for Congress in my district last year mentioned being on TikTok.) However there is no TikTok on my iPhone, so I must be a model cyber-citizen!
  21. One thing we know about Kaspersky is that it is effective! In independent tests conducted by AV Test over the years, Kaspersky Internet Security nearly always scored a perfect 6-6-6, only rarely slipping to 5.5 in some particular category. (You will have to scroll down to late 2017/early 2018 to see results for version 18.0 specifically.) https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/manufacturer/kaspersky-lab/ A minor concern of mine was that unlike Avast, Kaspersky never submitted their free version for testing by independent labs, which is actually one reason why I never used it. However, AstroSkipper reassured me about that in his May 8 post. According to this Kaspersky support article, version 18 did not even require an SSE2-capable processor: https://support.kaspersky.com/us/common/compatibility/15479 The article implies that version 19 is also compatible with XP, however one MSFN member reported to the contrary on May 14. Edit: I still have my doubts about that report in light of this June 14, 2019 post. (KFA 19 is an option for Vista in any case.)
  22. Subject: Kaspersky Let’s say you are running Windows XP and would like to try a 2018 version of Kaspersky (18.0.0.405) for whatever reason (maybe you live in a nonaligned nation, or maybe you don’t believe the fate of the Western world depends on the software used by a few Windows XP diehards, or maybe your favorite Western antivirus dumped XP users a long time ago). You can find it here: https://products.s.kaspersky-labs.com/
  23. “All”? “Anymore”? It would’ve been astounding to me if Kaspersky had ever been listed on page 1, post 2 of this thread (last edited June 12), but of course it never was and obviously never will be. You have only mentioned Kaspersky on page 15 to mention that it will never be mentioned!? MSFN is open to members from all nations (and yes there have been some Russian members). Of course you have a petty military alliance of your own with D.Draker/Cocodile, who has been trying to suppress any discussion of Kaspersky for a long time (offending me in the process even though I’m an American who never used Kaspersky). Your clique appears to be winning the MSFN War, so congratulations on your achievement!
