Force "multiprocess mode" in FF 52
DrWho3000 replied to Mathwiz's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
I got browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 set to true browser.tabs.remote.force-enable set to true dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.force-enable isn't there there is some extensions.e10sBlocks there by default NOT touched but NOT extensions.e10sBlocksEnabling would it be one of these i can't think that I did do any other changes Usually make a backup of the prefs before making changes, but neglected to this time, lucky i had a little older one- 142 replies

Can we disable the plugin container, in the past I noticed it was mainly needed to help play flash games, and removing it, there was no adverse effect and FF ran smoothly without it, but now If I disable or remove it FF, having Primetime Decryption FF complains Primetime has has stopped and need to reload page I found it is a resource hog I know in older versions it was together but in wisdom was decide to seperate into 2 seperate processes dom.ipc.plugins (on Firefox 9 there are two, while there are five on some older versions). Set all of them to false to disable plugin-container: DISABLING After disabling it, the usage is more like 35-50% and 25-40%. That’s an improvement from 100-130% to 60-90% ==> ~40% net. By default, Firefox loads plug-ins in a separate process called plugin-container.exe, which is meant to keep the main Firefox process (firefox.exe) unscathed in the event of a plug-in error or crash. Plugin-container is known for being resource intensive (CPU and RAM). But fortunately, it can be disabled without disrupting the browser's operation.

Force "multiprocess mode" in FF 52
DrWho3000 replied to Mathwiz's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
@Dave-H Only see this thead looking for something else I have tried the dom.ipc.processCount but set it to 3 One thing I noticed was the CPU usage going down on some sites, scrolling is a little better, One thing I noticed is the low CPU usage on most sites, but switch to FB it increases to a 50-60% usuage (sometimes higher) wonder if this is the high amount of scripting What does browser.tabs.remote.force-enabled do and the others i have seen mentioned ...... On a side note, Can we disable the plugin container, in the past I noticed it was mainly needed to help play flash games, and removing it, there was no adverse effect and FF ran smoothly without it, but now If I disable or remove it FF complains Primetime has has stopped and need to reload page- 142 replies

DrWho3000 replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
I'm going to try Palemoon but most I could install is 24.6 when I visit any sites alot complain browser is out of date or If i get in get put on the mobile version of the site is there anyway I could remedy this Can I import alot of the settings from Firefox i noticed there is alot in the about config not in PM there is in FF, can I put these in ? How do I get the Primetime to appear in PM like FF I have put in same settings in PM as in FF it doesnt appear Noticed there is either No comment box or can not comment on Facebook status's I managed to update PM to 26.9, but FB Twitter etc still doesnt allow me to comment where are the userstrings stored, its not in the prefs file I did try following guide on 1st post but still only get 2 blue ticks on html5/youtube -
@Radish does this include 52.9.0 ESR as I get not compatible with quantum yet mine isnt a quantun just regular normal 52.9 download This add-on is not compatible with your version of Firefox.

Since doing the nessecary cert update and other things to get extentions working, now when I restart FF, I have 2-3 addons that keeps wanting to ask permissison to install, yet before this it Never asked, how can I get round this so they stick permenant and don't keep asking too Should I change the extenrion.json file back from read only what I set it to,

I Got hit on 52.9.0 & 52.6.0 doing the change cert to false from true and -1 to 2 worked, what I posted a few posts up is more permanent to 2020 and DOES actually work, its a certificate update . . I wonder IF it;s a possibilty to get lastest FF (which is been fixed) install open with 7zip and extrat the cert8 file and use that in older browsers ??

Well I hope there is a fix for this debarcle or we are screwed seems we can't go No higher 53 is for Win 7 and above
-
Damn apart from what I am using 52.9.0 i have a 52.9.1 installer, but doubt if there is hardly any difference
-
This actually works on XP SP3 does it I downloaded, Firefox Setup 60.6.2esr but hesitant to install
-
seems to be working now althogh sketchy at times
-
@Dave-H It seems to be fixed now. A certificate had expired apparently, which presumably nobody at Mozilla had anticipated! I didn't have the problem with FF 52.9.1 ESR on Windows XP, but I did have it on FF 66.0.3 on Windows 10. It was very annoying while it lasted! it hit me on 52.9.0 around 7.30pm is there a fix for ESR thought it was only Nightly at the moment, ESR will be last ===================== Try this, this DOES work I have done it with success, unlike other so called fixes Shut down Firefox Open extensions.json Rreplace all instances of "appDisabled":true to "appDisabled":false Replace all instances of "signedState":-1 to "signedState":2 Save Change extensions.json to readonly or firefox will change everything back. start browser Disable and re-enable all extensions in about:addon some will have Delete icon missing most Will re-install and delete icon comes back Make sure you set yhe json file to read only then any that stil get not verified use the about:debugging and reload the extention

Had a bit of a head scratcher this morning I copied my prefs.js from one PC to another PC, started FF couldn't work out why Youtube and Instagram was broken, all the strings were correct, then realised i needed the other 2 .js files and it worked.................................. This one I don;t understand I have all the files C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM on both PC's all the folders/files gmp-eme-adobe gmp-gmpopenh264 gmp-widevinecdm in right places on both PC's have silverlight installed on both yet Netflix WILL play on one PC but NOT other can;t fathom this out I Get Opps something went wrong Digital Rights Management (DRM) Error Am I missing something or maybe file Both PC's ARE Win XP SP3 I did try a boolean set to true media.windows-media-foundation.enabled nope IF Like has been mentioned xp doesn;t support DRM, how is one XP PC I have playing Netflix yet the other doesn;t I Have ALL the correct strings booleans in bot PC;s ALL the right files in right place there MUST Be something in one not in the other Silverlight is on both does Netflix fall back to HTML5 A SIde Note I did find this 2019 Firefox will disable the Flash plugin by default. Users will not be prompted to enable Flash, but it will still be possible to activate Flash on certain sites using browser settings. 2020 In early 2020, Flash support will be completely removed from consumer versions of Firefox. The Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) will continue to support for Flash until the end of 2020. 2021 When Ahttps://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/software/mozilla-to-disable-flash-plugin-by-default-in-firefox-69/dobe stops shipping security updates for Flash at the end of 2020, Firefox will refuse to load the plugin. this here almost almost does it a few seconds then goes to ooop https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/force-1080p-netflix/

It appear the Netflix does alot deeper sniffing if i have general.useragent.override;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0 having above set then general.useragent.override.netflix.com/gb;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:50.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.0 I get Netflix system requirements for HTML5 Player and Silverlight You can use our HTML5 player or the Silverlight plug-in to watch Netflix TV shows and movies on PCs running Windows XP or later, and Intel-based Macs running OS X Tiger (v10.4.11) or later. You'll find a complete list of requirements below for HTML5, Silverlight 4, and Silverlight 5. HTML5 Silverlight 4 Silverlight 5 there is this Operating Systems and Browsers Operating System Internet Explorer 11 Internet Explorer 10 Internet Explorer 9 Internet Explorer 8 Internet Explorer 7 Firefox 12-52 Safari 4-11 Chrome 12-44 NOTE Firefox versions only upto 52 but setting general.useragent.override;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0 back to general.useragent.override;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Netflix will allow me to play videos So it apears with Netflix there is deeper sniffing as I do have Silverlight 5.1 and sure I have HTML5 even tho it didnt fall back to it even with all the gmp strings in place and have Primetime Decryption in aswell I've noticed (unless I'm wrong) that reporting a browserabove 62 breaks Youtbe.com I'm sure it used to work reporting 66 also where I had No sidebar on utube there is now one also about:sync breaks aswell unless it is set to 52 what would be the override prefrence for this
