  1. What is the point of doing this?
  2. Only way your going to be able to fix a service as important as that, is by re-installing windows.
  3. Sounds like ill do what I had thought then, Ill just keep the pagefile on my 2nd hard drive like it is right now then. Then just spread out whats remaining on drive 1 for linux and XP, there is no way ill need more then 8gb since ill just have the core files on there.
  4. Why would I want to give the partition for XP OS 10gb? Seems like a waste, remember Im using the partition for XP for the core OS files only. I doubt I would need more then 5gb. Also like I said, there is no way im doing anything to my 2nd harddrive at this moment in time.
  5. Decided I would do a total wipe of my first hard drive today, which is windowsxp. My second harddrive is mostly programfiles and downloads. So I have used nLite to make an install of XPSP2 + some other drivers. I'm also downloading mandrake linux to install as well, since ive been wanting to do this. So the question is (even though I think I already know what i'll do) what should my partitions on disk 1 look like? It is only 40gb, so I decided I will give 20gb to mandrake, then 5gb to XP, then 4gb to virtual memory, then the remaining for storage of whatever. I did a HORRIBLE job with my 2nd HD, I just let it be the entire 120gb of disc for the partition, but that isnt going to change. So - C - XP 5gb B - Virtual Memory for XP - 4gb L - Linux (mandrake) - 20gb H - Remaining for XP storage Then I have the partition F which is all of disc 2, but im not gonna go through deleting all the files on there anytime soon.. Would this setup be good? Should I give the partition H just to linux for whatever? And my last question, the current partition which takes up all of my 2nd Hard drive, which is NTFS, will my new install of xp on the 1st hard drive be able to detect the files on there fine? Thanks
  6. The reason they say to do this with documents folder is the fact that most people that arent knowledgable in computers, usually download everything to that folder. Personally I would rather have that folder with the core windows folder, just because.
  7. Yes, Because since the XPSP1 disc from microsoft has SP1 on it, and then you add the SP2, you are left over with files that do not matter, but are still there anyways. So its best either to take a normal XP CD and slipstream SP2 into it, or just take a normal XPSP2 CD and then do whatever you want to it.
  8. hehe... Happy to hear that you like the idea of "download buffer zone". <-- it's my little idea If you upload things too, it is a good idea to open an upload buffer zone too. Or you may combine two into one, ie download/upload buffer zone. And since you put it in a faster drive, you may experience a slightly better performace. In fact, if you are a heavy downloader, you may consider the use of RAM drive (ie allocation of some RAM and they will act as a virtual hard drive). Advantage: - your real hard disk is safe from a lot of read-write process - no fragmentation issue - boost the performance much further. You know, how fast RAM writes and reads! Conditions: - I think there's no free software for that. You may try http://www.superspeed.com/ramdisk.html I haven't tried it frankly. - You need to have enough free RAM. Otherwise how come you can allocate your RAM to act as a virtual drive. What I usually download is much larger then what a ramdrive can hold... Im a bad boy.
  9. Do a search on www.tweakxp.com I bet there is something in there for that.
  10. Because since hacking is "cool" and the only form of hacking kids know how to do is just destroying things by inserting something which someone else programmed, they do it.
  11. I really wouldnt trust downloading a warez version of an OS anyways, not only would I classify that as more illegal then downloading a warez game, but yeah, its an OS, and you just downloaded it, and its been through a lot of people before it got to you..
  12. And this is all because some kid stuck a linux disc in every system? Christ he should be whipped, then possibly sold as a sex slave.
  13. Make one for the OS, make one for the page file, make one for program files, and I like that download buffer zone idea, never thought of that. I think now that my IE is borked up, it may be a perfect time to do this.. Once you have the OS, page file, and program file partitions setup, I would make the download buffer zone the size of whatever free space you have left.
  14. Not with XP they don't. As far as the OP, I don't know how to tell from just the key. If you have a key for each machine and proof that you have a unique key for the amount of machines you have just load the VLK keys on all the machines. Or you could just call Microsoft and see if they can help sort it out. ..How is that when I am sitting right here right now with a OEM version of WinXP Pro, and my key looks like that. I guess Ill state the obvious the X's = the numbers of what make up the rest of the key.. It still doesnt matter though, because the OEM part is a dead give away.
  15. Under the properties for the drive, then under the recording tab, is the "Enable Recording On this drive" enabled? If it is, and it isnt working if the service is listed as automatic, then try un-installing roxio or nero if you have those installed. In my experiance Nero (possibly roxio) screw that windows function up when they are installed.
  16. Well I can tell you from the get-go that OEM keys look like xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx that. As for the others, I have no clue.
  17. Well, figured out how to get the files from SP2 thingy, and after the re-install...... IT still doesnt work! Yay!
  18. That is for the slipstreamed versions though. I need the non-slipstreamed SP2 disc. (Which I ordered from microsoft, but that takes 4 weeks), Or somehow figure out how to burn it myself.
  19. http://www.knightonlineworld.com/ Probally the best FREE mmorpg out. Has decent graphics, and awesome gameplay.
  20. No. I think the problem has to do with a core file of IE. So if anyone can tell me how to make a SP2 install CD just like the one microsoft sends out, or actually knows what the problem is, well yeah.. The only way I can "re-install" the SP2 version of Internet Explorer is by using that command I mentioned, but when I do so, it asks for the SP2 install CD. I could re-install SP2, but doing that could cause more problems.
  21. Also after some thought it seems like links which I type in the address bar, which are then referred to another link, give the syntax error. So for instance if I type in www.blahbing.com and it had the code to refer me to www.google.com, IE would give me that syntax error page.
  22. Not really sure if this will help any, since I pretty much dug through it myself, but maybe I missed something. 23. Ok, well I tried typing in the direct link to the Windows Update site, and it worked.. But once again the CSS aint working, And yes, In my IE options I have all those type of settings "Enabled". Here is the syntax error I get with most sites.
  24. This is one of these things that is way to hard to do currently. Is your DVD player capable of playing divx movies? If the answer is yes, then your life will be much easier.
  25. I messed up on the links, and When I went to edit them, they for some reason dont work. Ok try the links now, they are fixed. They should work fine in IE or mozilla for you though, since your IE isnt borked.
