  1. I put in a xp disk to try to replicate the error, but it's loaded up and installing as we speak! This version is a fan mix with sp3 and a number of additional updates already slip streamed into it, so that appears to have jumped the installation hurdle so far. Will post any problems with it if there are any once it is installed.
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhOvYgpA6Qs Not liking the looks of this, if this trend doesn't stop-I might just jump back to an older version of windows for my daily driver!
  3. I have an old HP Pavilion dv7 laptop, the model is dv7-1127cl. In past installations, it will take Linux/Windows 7/Vista 32 and 64 bit. However when I've attempted a windows xp install I get the BSOD every time, is XP too old, or is there a trick I'm missing? Thanks for any clues!
  4. Sounds like using the NoScript addon is a more reliable way of protection!
  5. Watched this video recently: What do you guys think?
  6. Excellent! GZdoom is fixed now! Tried it out with doom2, ultimate doom, heretic-works great! GZDoom 11 will work with Vista!
  7. Looked up and got my hands on CFF Explorer, but have no clue where to find the string you mentioned-looks like a pretty powerful tool though once I figure it out!
  8. Have a new issue today trying to run the current version of GZDoom, anyone know what this is?
  9. I've used the video editor Openshot in linux and have found it to be easy to use. I know there are versions for current Windows, but was there ever one for 64bit vista? I'm not using the extended kernel, just vanilla Ultimate edition.
  10. My error, but it's soon enough-I prefer older games you could install with a disk rather than a net based service that tries to force you to update to the latest Windows Malware! Btw, is it just me or is Vista the best looking of the modern windows Os's? Even win 7 Areo didn't strike me as being as well polished!
  11. Just tried that, had to go into Safe Mode to get it to work. There wasn't a C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD\ATI.ACE\Core-Static folder, but I created one and put the required files in. So far so good, no error messages and my games and VLC player work fine! Thanks!
  12. Hello everyone, it's been a while since I used Vista-but recently after Steam dropped support for windows 7, I decided to do the right thing and delete my account and just get a couple of games that I liked the most off Gog games so I wouldn't be forced to upgrade to the latest garbage! Since the older games I liked will run fine on Vista 64 bit-I decided to dust off my old Ultimate Vista disk and give it a go. After updating everything, I did the editing trick to enable me to use the 15.6 beta radeon driver which works well with my 4gb 350 card. So far so good, however I get this error from time to time when I start to play a game or use some video related utility-I hit ok and am able to go from there-but is there a fix for this and is it related to my video driver or something else?
  13. Is there a windows 2000 driver for a HP Envy 5530? I'm mainly just wanting to be able to use it's scanner on windows 2000.
  14. Got my hands recently on a dell pc that is windows 10 compatible for my parents. They are wanting me to install the windows 10 disk it came with and tweak it to minimize unneeded apps, telemetry etc. What are some basic steps I can do to make this happen and is there a Classic Shell type of program to make the interface more like xp/7? I see a lot of different posts on these issues, but I thought I'd ask to see what steps are the most effective.
  15. I'd love to know too, I would love to be able to use my 1030 on Vista, doesn't have to be the latest driver-just one that works and gives me an Nvidia control panel.
  16. https://theword.net/ Found this one works fine with my win2k installation
  17. The savefrom link is dead, where do I get Internet Download Manager?
  18. I was going through some of my old computer parts I had in my desk one day and found my old Dell Insprion B130 a friend gave me years ago. I tried installing windows 98 on the thing and was successful. So far all I've found driver wise is stuff for 2000/XP, are there any drivers out there for Windows 98?
  19. I tried the current youtube-dl on my windows 2000 installation, but it doesn't work-has anyone come across a way to download Youtube vids in 2000?
  20. Been experimenting again with windows 2000 recently and found this excellent video by a spanish speaker called Kernel32 on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM_ljg4XvZ8 He's got english subtitles and has one of the best tutorials on how to install blackwingcat's kernel on a vanilla installation of windows 2000, I tried it on my old dell 330 and it worked great!
  21. On a side note, you will get a BSOD if you use just vanilla sp4, if you have 5.1 or HSLIP updates installed it will work then.
  22. Just tested my Geforce 210 1 gb card this morning and it works as well!
  23. Thank you! Works great on my Geforce 8400 512mb card! :D
  24. I tried tethering with Vista again, but no luck. However I found a Type-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter on ebay that I used to connect to the computer's ethernet port and it worked fine. However for me now it's a dead issue, after finding the cellular data plan wasn't working well with my needs, I wen't back to Comcast cable so it's a cable connection for me again.
  25. After getting sick of Comcast making it's annual changes to charges on my internet and forcing me to have to re-sign onto a new plan to keep my expenses down, I recently got rid of my cable service. Now I connect to the internet on my Linux and Windows 7 machines via USB tethering using my new OnePlus Nord N200 5G (expensive, but the recent G changes in signals forced me to ditch my old Samsung). 60 gigs a month (then forced slowdown after that) isn't bad if you can control your Youtube addiction. Now I was fooling around with another old computer of mine and was wondering if I could do the same kind of connection with Windows Vista 64 bit, or is it too old an OS to use?
