  1. Wait wait waaaaaait. You're describing exactly unfixed behavior. How it is possible? Can anyone else confirm that renaming pinned programs actually works or doesn't? I just tried this again and I found out when it doesn't work, if you just right click and go to properties and rename it in the general tab that's when you have a problem, if you press Shift+Right Click and select rename it works correctly.
  2. I just tried it on Win7 and had no problem at all. Name change happened right away and the app launches fine. Yeah it's more random and more I was having this problem with pinned programs on the taskbar. Anyway I just tried removing pinned programs from %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu and it had the result you mentioned earlier, the pinned programs still showed in the start menu but clicking on them didn't do anything. I also found if you rename them in %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu it also results in making the shortcut not work and as you said, the name does not change either. When I used Shift+Right Click on the pinned programs in the start menu the names changed fine and it also changed the name in %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu and the program worked as it should. When you renamed the ones in the start menu did you just shift+Right click on them and rename them in the start menu?
  3. This one is goofy! If I rename a pinned item (for example Paint to Paint RENAMED via the pinned item) the pinned item no longer works. EVER! It's completly dead. The pinned item also remains as the old name. The actual item in accessories also remains as the old name (Paint). But if I search for Paint...it finds Paint RENAMED. Where? I couldn't find it. If i pin the Paint RENAMED thatit finds then it pins it as Paint RENAMED (2). Anyway, I have to unpin Paint then repin it to get it working. However, Paint RENAMED is now stuck somewhere in lala land. If I rename a recently used program then it also stops working and it retains the old name. However, if I wait about a minute then it updates then it works. Have a look in C:\Users\"Your User Name"\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\StartMenu and you should see the renamed one. I get this bug on Windows 7 pinned items as well and it is annoying, I don't think there will much you can do to fix it, it's just one of those "good enough" scenarios that MS doesn't care enough about to fix. Edit: Just tested this myself on the pinned start menu programs and when I changed the name of the pinned program it changed straight away and the program launched fine, I also renamed it back again and still works fine.
  4. explorer.exe shell:::{2559a1f8-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0} is cool but not quite what I'm looking for. There has to be another similar code that launches metro start screen. The Classic Shell's hotkey opens up StartIsBack menu instead of the metro screen. I'm well familiar with Autohotkey, but that script also launches StartIsBack, not the Metro Screen. Err ... wait, StartIsBack gives me the right-Win to launch Metro, so I'll use this script: #NoTrayIcon Send {RWin} ExitApp Yehoo, works! Start Metro.zip Did you even read my post, I posted one for the left window key for the start menu and one for the right window key to launch the start screen using startisback, that's why I gave you both links because I wasn't sure if you were using Startisback.
  5. Here you go, tested and works perfect, can pin it to the taskbar or use it from the desktop http://www.7tutorials.com/download-shortcut-windows-8-start-screen-desktop All it does is send a Left Windows key command, if you need a right Windows Key command I made one here for StartIsBack Beta 2 http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/38295-Modern-UI-Start-Screen-Desktop-%28exe%29-Shortcut but it looks like it will be changing in the next beta anyway.
  6. That looks like a great improvement mate, looking like a professional bit of work there now, very impressed
  7. I found this blog that was posted a year ago about Windows 8, I think he covered pretty much everything that has been removed from the Windows 8 downgrade lol http://xpwasmyidea.blogspot.in/2011/09/features-removed-in-windows-8.html Anyway not sure if all of that is still relevant or what else MS decided to take out but personally I will stick with Win 7 as my main Desktop OS and Win 8 will remain just on my VM for research and development purposes only (I may still buy a Windows 8 Tablet )
  8. Well the poll doesn't seem to work for me but I think the right win key is great for those that have it and shortcut I put on my Taskbar also does a good job but how about having the normal hot spot enabled for it, the area of the screen for the hot spot is not where you would normally click for the desktop start menu so I think have both there and have it completely unified with how MS wanted it. Although I think this should remain an optional feature as some people may never want to use the app screen.
  9. I tried this and it sort of worked, not the best solution though http://www.heroturko.me/softwares/2802674-microsoft-games-patcher-v12-use-microsoft-games-from-windows-7-in-windows-8.html plus you will need to have Windows 7 files and if you don't have those then this will not be any good to you
  10. I made a Right Window key shortcut to get around this, you can find it here http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/38295-Modern-UI-Start-Screen-Desktop-%28exe%29-Shortcut but I also like the idea of the middle click
  11. Found another bug when going to the Start Screen and clicking on the desktop tile, click on the desktop tile to take you back to the desktop and the hover over the left bottom corner and you will have the metro start button pop up, at that point you can either click the start screen button or move to the right slightly and click on the desktop start button. This bug only happens when clicking on the desktop tile, if you go to the bottom left corner and go back to the desktop from there the problem does not occur. Also this does not happen 100% of the time, I am just trying to reproduce it again at the moment but now it doesn't happen, I tried a reboot after the first time I noticed and could reproduce it but for some reason I cant get it to happen again, I wouldn't spend to much time or any trying to fix it, I don't think it's a big issue and you probably add that as an extra feature lol
  12. Which quote is right? What there are animations or there are not? I have no problems with animation on the start screen, the only thing I did notice using my right win key shortcut is the first time you press it, it will go to the start screen and then jump back to the desktop, I presume this happens because it isn't loaded at boot as we now boot straight to the desktop, no big deal but I guess if there is a way to have it load in the background at startup it would solve the problem.
  13. OK I joined over here as this thread seems to be more on topic then the one over at My Digital Life, have not tested as mush as ISOHaven, good job by the way, but I have seen a problem when the taskbar position is set to the right side, when the start menu has transparency disabled it doesn't draw right, with my custom theme I can get full transparency in all other positions but when it is set to the right the background just went black I know it's a position that will probably never be used by the majority and even those that do probably wont be using a theme that will display this but but I thought I would mention it anyway, maybe you can see something you did different on the right side from all other positions. This is not a bug report this is about the washed out start buttons that was mentioned above, with the start buttons they must be a 32 bit Bitmap image and it must contain a proper Alpha layer to be able display correct transparency, you can see the alpha layer if you open it in PS and what you need to do if you only see a black layer is you will need to leave the parts black that you want to have full transparency and where the button is you need to make white. One other suggestion I can think of at the moment would be to have a copy of the start button selected by the user to be placed in the StartIsBack folder so that if the user deletes the start button or moves it to another location (as I did) after applying it the start button will not go back to default. @ Tihiy off topic question, with this enabled and disabled transparency you have done for the start menu and taskbar, are you looking at any way this can be applied to the explorer windows as well?
