  1. I mean i have a Dynamic address supplied by my ISP i then use my router to assign internal/ local IP addresses to all the clients on the network i.e. Dynamic IP 123.234.34.45 -->Router --> Machine 1 = 192.168.1.5 Machine 1 = 192.168.1.6 Machine 1 = 192.168.1.7 ...... thanks
  2. 1 - I know im supplying the correct info and 100% sure about that. 2 - My IP settings are the same as they were before SP1 ive checked them again and see that each client has its own static IP provided by the router and the server has DNS set up but not sure if there is a problem there or not. Im notusing DHCP on th eserver but on the router (Incase someone wantes to go onto the internet so the server does not have to be on) Thanks
  3. Thanks......i tried what you guys said some resolved the issue some didnt. I still get the odd ocassional 4004, 4015 error (not as much) however it wont load any profiles using AD and i get event id error 5719: Event Type: Error Event Source: NETLOGON Event Category: None Event ID: 5719 Date: 13/04/2005 Time: 09:11:01 User: N/A Computer: computer Description: No Domain Controller is available for domain MSDOMAIN due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. . Make sure that the computer is connected to the network and try again. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Data: 0000: 5e 00 00 c0 ^..À I tried to re-join to the domain - that falied im thinking this may be the problem leading the other issues - disabling the firewall stopped a few more errors. So what could be wrong?
  4. I'd help but i have no idea what your asking.....
  5. After installing SP1 (WS2003) i ran Security Config Wizard. I believe i configured this correctly (well i think so anyway ) I have event id 1054 on the client and event IDs 4004, 4015 (appearing numerous times) on the server. Reading on these events they all tell me to set the correct DNS server addresses for my LAN - but it is so what am suppose to do to resolve this issue? NTP- i set NTP address as net time set/sntp:192.168.1.1 - this is for my router so it picks up the time from there but i still get errors - anyone know how to resolve this or which address to set it to? Cheers
  6. Im curious to know what you guys think would be the best way of removing a virus on a domain or network configuration (Windows Server 2003). Assuming: 1. You have a Anti virus program installed 2. AV (anti virus) has stopped functioning due to the virus what would be the best approach? Cheers
  7. For some reason my users get disconnected once they have logged on (get disconnected after a few hours that is). I believe the server is disconnected and then they have to reconnect again after a certain period of time - anyone know how to resolve thsi or whats causing the issue? Cheers
  8. i fluked it - if anyone needs to know it F5 (and press it about a million times)
  9. I have a Asus A8V Deluxe Motherboard and im trying to get into safe mode for Windows server 2003 - ive tried pressing F8/ Del/ F2/ Shift F8/ F11/ F12 to get into safe mode but i just cant access it no matter what - does anyone have a clue how to get into safe mode as ive searched Asus web and Googled everything i can think of but still cant get into safe mode? Cheers
  10. Q: Whats the recommended approach for creating GPOs for a lot of users where you want them to have the same PC setting but different groups have different credentials in running programs i.e. GP1 = Computer Settings are the same for all users. GP2 = Stop users from using Windows Messenger for example GP3 = Allow users to use Windows Messenger GP4 = Stop users from making changes to Internet Explorer GP5 = Allow users to make changes to Internet Explorer. How could i use this scenario without having to create a new GPO for each OU?
  11. Im logged into the server (not from a workstation) as a limited user via the GP ive set up, sorry for the confusion. Limited User (logged onto the server) - Drive C, D, E, F and G - Allow access to ONLY E drive and restrict access to others however still allowing users run programs such as Microsoft Office etc
  12. Well what i mean is to have 1 drive that users can use and browse. I dont want them to be looking in the C:\ drive I logged in as this user and i could browse around C:\ drive which is something i dont want to allow Cheers
  13. I have 4 partitions on my server. I want to be able to restrict 3 of them and allow one to be used to allow people to use and browse. I created a GPO and have an option which allows me to do that but not necessarly the way i want it i.e. restrict all drives, restrict A and B, restrict A, C, D etc etc but it doesnt make a lot of sense. Could someone advise please Cheers
  14. Thanks Spyder2k ill try that out - just curious whats the difference between using the folders that i was (start menu, my documents etc ) compared to Roaming profiles - i thought the folder redirection was the same as roaming profiles Cheers
  15. Not too sure what you mean by profile path but i have \\ServerName\User\Profiles$ (sorry i listed differently earlier) as the redirection path for ALL the folders (application data, my documents, start menu, desktop) - removed the redirection for the start menu and caused tthe same problem hope that helps cheers
  16. This folder is safe to delete - its only used to store windows updates - occasionally this becomes full and ppl have problems with windows update therefore its perfectly safe to delete. OR if you in a position now that you dont know whos right and whos wrong then burn the contents of that folder to disk and then delete it delete the folder from the system and see if you come across any problems
  17. Within AD i use the option to hide the System tray (bottom on the right) - is there anyway to allow to show some programs that i want users to see? cheers
  18. Ive tried that and i have the same problem - heres a jpeg of the problem - all folders (application data, my documents, start menu, desktop) are being redirected to \\servername\Profiles$\ - anyone got any idea?
  19. When my users log on - (everytime) their personal folders showup at the top just above the ACCESSORIES folder - it shows their destop items/ my documents etc but id prefer them not to see this. I used GPO to set up a redirection for startup, application data, etc etc if anyone needs to know - anyway i can stop them seeing this folder at the top of the accessories folder? Cheers
  20. There should be an option for you to forward ports within the routers settings
  21. fair point my bad How long have you had this problem for? Have you tried to delete the settings and recreate new ones? HAve you checked the status of the service (usually on the forum within gmail)
  22. did you change the port setting to googles? the default ones are 110 and 25 these need to be changed
  23. Hello my questions are based on WS2003/ Outlook 03 and AD 1. How does one set up roaming profiles, so no matter what system the user logs onto all their documents are available? 2. When my user logs onto the domain ive noticed that it didnt have access to MS Office in particular Outlook therefore i setup the path in AD under software distribution which removed any errors..........now when this user logs onto another machine they have to set it all up again (i.e. type in their username/ password) meaning they loose emails from one pc to another - how coudl i copy the Outlook.pst file (assuming i copied it over from the server) and have their username and password setup as it was or is there a better way of doing this? Cheers
  24. Whats a good program where once ive installed my op system and other 3rd party programs i can make a backup of it all including the registry (not to concerned about my documents) so if anything goes wrong i just -lets say - copy and paste this over to my c: drive and hey presto its back running fast as it was when i originally made this backup? cheeers
