  1. I have a domain setup on my server is it possible for me to create another domain on the same server using active directory? if yes whats the best way to do it? Woudl i need to reconfigure DNS also i use my routers DHCP server (cetain reasons why i have to use the routers DHCP) and any other settings that i need to configure? Cheers
  2. the first post says you can upgrade for free.......not sure if you was aware but thoughtto mention it
  3. Thanks Klasika How do i check to see if this seting is on/off? Would this article reset the policies? if not do you know the name of the tool that i would ask from MS http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=324800 Thanks again for your help.
  4. I started over my Group Policy again and have thye same result (policy not taking affect) so i ran the gpresult on WS2003. I think the yellow highlight is where the problem is but not sure how to resolve it.......the red marks are my computer name - any ideas anyone? Cheers EDIT: If this is of any help it seems that ANY user i create has the same policy (even administrator account i created). In active directcory under the computer folder it lists my computer that im logging on with and not the server - is this correct? EDIT 2: If i right click my domain and select properties shoudl my GP be listed in there?
  5. When i craeted the the group i selected Global and security - is this correct?
  6. Yep did that already How do you refresh them? i have closed down the policy editor and restarted it if that any help. Currently the setting is set to disabled (for IE policy settings)
  7. ok the policy that i set just to test this out was as follows - I first created my user and group, then my OU. Right click my OU and select properties the select new from the Group Policy and name my poicy. Went to the user section (towards the bottom of the group policy editor) and expanded a few nodes until i found Internet Explorer. To test it out i changed the General tab etc to be disabled (along with the other tabs that you will find in internet options) I logged on with my test user on my domain and noticed that the settings did not take effect AND each time i logged on it takes about 5 minutes to log on Cheers
  8. Sorry yet another set of questions................ 1. Ive created my OU then placed my test user into that OU and logged onto my domain with the test user but the policy i applied didnt work - what did i do wrong? 2. When i log onto my domain with the test account it take about 5 minutes to login - how could i reduce this time? Cheers everyone
  9. Only want to limit some users within my groups (e.g. one user group can access word and another cant). Not using TS just loggging onto my domain from WinXp Pro as soon as i log on it has all the menus as admin so ill try removing links from the folders. Also does anyone know if theres any 3rd party tools to allow a win XP home edition machine to logon to a domain? Cheers
  10. I installed all my applications on my server. It seems whenevr somone logs on they have access to all thses applications - how could i remove this access so they cannot run the app even from the program files folder and wont show up in the start menu list? Cheers
  11. thanks - although i understand where your coming from what im after is to set up a small group just for testing purposes so i can get a user to logon on with the restrictions that i apply. Im unsure how to do this at the moment so help on what i need to do would be appreciated. Cheers
  12. Thanks FAT64. Is there any where i can read up to create my first group with my group policies? or if someone can give a short guide to point me in the right direction? Thansk
  13. Ive created my Active directory domain. I just wondered what method you guys would use to create a user group and set policies cheers
  14. Is it possible for me to logon to my domian and workgroup at the same time or pick the option at startup (at the moment i have the option for my domain) or something similar to that? Cheers
  15. no definately not as i am using the WinXP SP2 CD.
  16. Would the same method allow me to connect to another domain without me having to specify it using the above method? i.e. i should be able to pick the domain (from the box you see at logon) so i pick the appropriate domain and logon thanks
  17. ahhhh actually i had to copy both of them files from my SP2 directory into the i386 folder as the slipstream process did not do this and i had the ntyfs.sys is missing error message or the famous usbehci.sys is corrupt or missing - which is why i copied these files over to avoid that message (the new file version ended in something like 2180 for both files whereas the one i had the error with ended in 31) - so just to make sure it is these files thats given this longhorn error?
  18. i copied all the files from an extracted sp2 into a folder and copied the new files over to my win xp folder (this is a dell issue and cd doesnt support slipstreaming) now the slipstream works with everything however the bootup (the one that flashes with the bar (blue on pro and green on home) screen says "Longhorn" rather than "Windows XP" - which file coud i change over or not change to avoid this thank you
  19. Ive created my domian on WS 2003. Im running Win xp (pro) on another machine. How do i connect my user to the domain so they only use privledges that ive set - Coudl this also be done on a home edition of win xp? thank you
  20. 1 only if you try to install additional updates 2 dont know but i know its the 12/13th minute remaining before cmdlines.txt is run 3 ive never used thisprogram- sorry cant be much help
  21. thanks guys. The 1st link seems to be broken to the .doc it points at so ill check later to see if it works. The 2nd link is good however this is modifying the winnt.sif. Im not sure if this can be modified but i just need one CD which i insert double click and it installs the program. If it can be modified please advise thanks everyone
  22. is it possible for me to copy all my programs i want to install onto 1 CD and double click a program (like a batch file or something) which then installs all the programs on my CD - cleans up and restarts the pc when required? If so can anyone advise?
