  1. No just yet but i did realise this but not sure how to go about it. When the user sends an email it goes through the internet then backto the internal user. So Internal user sends the email to another internal user it goes external then comes back in to the internal user it was sent to.I know the email goes external because it comes up with a flag to say it has gone external then back in.
  2. No it doesnt appear in OWA or client outlook for a few hours. I did delete the profile but same issue. It doesnt reach the server either as once the mail is sent its not listed under mesage tracking. thanks
  3. On Exchange SBS one recepient has a problem where email is sent and arrive hours (or even the next day) later. Ive looked at Message tracking and i cant see anything wrong. Can someone advise what may be worth looking into to resolve? Thanks (jpeg attached for info)
  4. Is it possible to install WSUS 2.0 with SP1 on a SBS server (Small business server) that ALSO holds a domain? if yes what are the disadvatages and advantages? Or would it be better to install on a different server altogether? Thx
  5. I have a Dell Optiplex GX270 with 512MB of RAM. I want to upgrade the memory but some say i HAVE to do it via Dell or i have to reactivate and they may not do this as its not provided by them. Is this true? if not which memory would you recommend i should purchase? and how do i know if im buying the correct memory for this PC? thx
  6. Did anyone ever find a way around this? Ive tried everything said in this article but nothing works. Our server is running 2003 with SP1 and other guys can connect to the server but i cant - i can ping all the servers but cant connect
  7. How can i create a batch file to create a user on Win XP home? Thx
  8. I downloaded and installed Office 2000 resource kit on my PC (not running office 2000). I ran the Custom Installation Wizard to specify my Exchange settings (server name etc). I saved this file in the same folder as my Office 2000 installation. I ran setup.exe but it installed the default installation (without my settings). I then unistalled and ran setup.exe TRANSFORMS="C:\OFFICE\New Custom Setup File.MST" /qn+ This came up with a message: Please go to control panel to install and configure system components. This is a new installation and im running with admin rights. My aim is to have general users who logon on to a new PC to automatically configure exchange settings for that particular user. What am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance
  9. all functionalitly of 2003 is available in LH, if you wanted to ADD a LH server to your domain, you could make it a DC and replicate AD to it without issue ***NOTE*** LH is still beta, please do not do this with your production environment!!! build a test environment and add LH server to see how they operate and react to your environment configurations. Thanks but how do i replicate everything in AD 2003 to LH? without doing all accounst and groups individually? thanks
  10. We want to try and see if we can migrate from WS2003 to Longhorn server but need to ensure ws2003 is still running even if if LH went down so overall want the same users groups settings on ws2003 to LH - whats the best way or what can i read to do this? thank you in advance
  11. Installed IE7 on a PC running XP SP2. On the server (2003) i tried to view the ADM file copied from the XP machine but it didnt have the new features - where coudl i get the latest adm file as google didnt return any good results? Turn off automatic updates of ADM files a policy in gpo - i read about this but cant grasp what it actually does and if i could use it or not for our benefit can someone give me an example? Many thanks
  12. Sorry i wasnt too sure what you may have needed to know so ill explain: I have a DC on a machine. This machine has 2 NIC (Network Interface Cards) 1 NIC is currently used for all traffic (incoming/ outgoing) as i dont know how i should use the second NIC. I want users of the domain to be able to logon - currently every user is blocked by ISA so im not sure what ports need opening. Once ive accomplished that, i want to be able to configure ISA (which i know how to)to specify which traffic is and isnt allowed including URLs allowed and disallowed to to the outside world (internet). No remote access from outside the network is required just yet. If this doesnt make sense please let me know. Thank you p.s. one of the error messages received in event viewer is: Event Type: Error Event Source: NetBT Event Category: None Event ID: 4321 Date: 27/05/2006 Time: 09:38:29 User: N/A Computer: CLIENT1 Description: The name "TestDomain :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 192.168.1.3. 13. I know its not recommended but for testing purposes could someone please advise: 1. What ports i need open so clients can connect to the domain including any scripts we run? 2. Disadvantages of installing ISA on a domain? Remember ISA needs to be installed on a Domain Controller. Thanks for your help in advance

  15. Guys This is my current setup (on a test network): 1 router / WS 2003 with SP1 The server is a domain controller. The router holds all local IPs and assigns them to individual workstations and the server i.e. 192.168.1.1 - Default gateway 192.168.1.100 - Server 192.168.1.101 - Client 1 192.168.1.102 - Client 2 192.168.1.103 - Client 3 etc etc Everything work pretty well in what i want to do. Now i want to move away from that configuration and use DHCP and DNS but not sure how to start this off or where to begin or even what the adavantages/ disadvantages are. Could anyone point me in the right direction please? Cheers
  16. I have a link in Outlook 2003 for all Public Folders. Currently i have to go to each individual user and manually create a shortcut to one of the public folders sub folder or Task/ Contact list who have access to the public folders content - Is there a way to do this using a script of some sort or a registry trick? I noticed a Favourites folder too is there a way to get a shortcut there for all users? Cheers
  17. converting sounds as if itll cause more problems so coudl you point me in the right direction to create a ACL script please. Incase it would help - i have a domain setup
  18. Hello all, Is there a way to reset ALL drives and folder permissions as if the op system was just installed? Cheers
  19. I have Kaspersky installed on my machine. I ran a full check yesterday. My mate told me he had the kelvir virus on his machine so he used a Norton patch to resolve it - just to see i ran the patch on my PC and the log stated the virus was there - how come one AV is saying no there isnt and another says there is or am i reading something wrong? heres the log: Symantec W32.Kelvir.D and W32.Kelvir.R Removal Tool 1.1.1 registry: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: load (value deleted) registry: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: load (value deleted) registry: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: load (value deleted) registry: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1214440339-1935655697-854245398-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: load (value deleted) registry: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1214440339-1935655697-854245398-1006\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: load (value deleted) C:\System Volume Information: (not scanned) D:\System Volume Information: (not scanned) W32.Kelvir has been successfully removed from your computer! Here is the report: The total number of the scanned files: 50964 The number of deleted files: 0 The number of viral processes terminated: 0 The number of registry entries fixed: 5
  20. Maybe the terminology i used was incorrect. I have already assigned my server a static ip address as you mentioned
  21. Ok when i wrote that i meant that all the clients that connect to the server have their primary DNS as the servers IP. Clients receive STATIC IP from router this is local or internal IP which is assigned by the router (192.168.1.5 etc) Thanks
  22. just curious but can you install ISA2004 on a WS2003 standard to enterprise edition? or is it best left on another PC on its own?
  23. 1 NIC on the server however i can increase this to 2 if that would help. Yes they receive local IPs from the router Yes only for the PCs that dont require to login to the server The server has its own static IP address assigned by the router. So the preferred DNS is the same IP address (pointing to it self) as the server. The clients (that do connect to the server) have static IP addresses again assigned by the router. The primary DNS is the servers DNS, so i think that has been done correctly. Would i still need to do this after explaining the above? if yes coudl you explain a bit more in how i should set it up as i woudl imagine having the router giving DHCP addresses allows users to connect to the internet when the server is turned off (the same users that dont use the server) I checked that and i have Local Area Connection listed at the top both for server and clients. I dont understand what i need to do here and how i should check if the server's NIC is not on the loopback address. Again these problems only occured after installing SP1 on the server. Thanks again for everyones help
  24. I guess so but whether this helps or not if i try and ping another pc/ Client on the network i use ping 192.168.1*** ......sorry i just noticed what i wrote on my previous post. It should have read: Dynamic IP (from ISP) = 123.234.34.45 (as an example) 123.234.34.45 -->Router Router Assigns local/internal IP address to all pcs on network -> so Machine 1 = 192.168.1.5 Machine 2 = 192.168.1.6 Machine 3 = 192.168.1.7 sorry for the confusion hope that makes sense
