  1. hmm strange...can u access files on the drive under win2k? If not then u need 2 format it
  2. because win2k3 is a server, by default, it doesnt enable the sound services. I think wat u hav done is upgraded from win2k to win2k3 and uninstalled it cuz u were havin probs, is that correct? If so, win2k3 has disabled ur sound services when it installed, and didnt set it back when u uninstalled. Ur card will not work till the services are enabled. Go into ur administration tools, and click on the services icon. Look for the service which says windows sound services. Right click on that, select properties. There should be an option box in there which has enable and disable in it. This will be set to disable by default, so select enable and click ok. Ur sound card should work now.
  3. Hav u got an old win98/me cd? If so, boot from that. A menu will appear asking you if you want to start setup from the cdrom, start with cdrom support, or start without cdrom support. Select start with cdrom support. You will come to the command prompt. From the command promt, type fdisk#/mbr (# = space). This will replace ur master boot record with a backup, you need to do this as it looks like u have installed the win2k3 bootloader from the cd some how (if so this will display with windows setup blue screen that you have described). Once you have done this, boot from the win2k3 cd. You will come to the partition selection/creation screen. Delete the system partition, recreate it and it will ask you what filesystem you want to format the partition in. Format it using ntfs. Once that is done it will copy the install files to your pc and you will be promted to restart. Boot from your hard drive, dont press any key to boot from cd. The os selection screen will appear and select windows 2003 from the menu. Setup should successfully start. If you have trouble doing anything i have mentioned, ask ur dad if he works 4 M$.
  4. A project which the United Nations is undertaking using XML (extensible markup language) has gained support from microsoft. The project is intended to give small/medium company's an alternative to traditional paperwork currently required to be completed by the company to allow them to cross country borders. At a press conference in Geneva, microsoft demonstrated how the UN's project, called UNeDOCS, will work in their InfoPath application. UneDocs (United Nations Extentions for aligned electronic trade Documents) was started in 2002 by the UN's Economic Commision for Europe, with the aim of using XML to create an electronic equivelant for paper trade documents currently utilising the existing Electronic Data Interchange standards. The XML based documents are currently being drafted so that they may be accepted and understood internationally. In addition to the UneDocs system, the UN have also designed an online support system to provide traders with an assistance center where they can get assistance with understanding and completing the documents. 5. Yeh i think all of the win9x os's suck, but ME is by far the worst. When I was forced to run it due to my pc freezing up with win2k/xp/2k3 because of an argument they had with my old isa nics and sound card, I would get a bsod every time i went on the net, at random. Very Frustrating, especially whilst in the middle of a download
  6. At a press release on tuesday, IBM officially confirmed the release date of their new z990 mainframe offerings, codename T-REX. IBM stated that they will be scaling down their mainframe offerings from 42 to a mere 4, and that the first two models of the z990 mainframes, the A08 and the B16 are scheduled for release on June 16. They have retained the same 16-processor configurations for these first releases that is available in the current z900 offerings, but have designed a new 16-chip multichip module for the z990 offerings. This new module is said to be half the size of current offerings, and to contain 3.2 billion transistors. Built using their silicon-on-insulator technology, IBM's new modules will largely improve the performance of the new mainframes over the current offerings. From september onwards, customers purchasing these mainframes will have IBM's new "ON/OFF Capacity on demand" pricing structure. This pricing scheme allows administrators/network engineers to upgrade their mainframes on demand according to their capacity requirements. Source: IT world
