the Windows Sharing Services would have gone thru other protocols then such as Netbui / IPX / SPX or something Its a fact that without Netbios you cant connect to WIndows Shares. yeh probably, it must hav used netbeui or ipx/spx to share things, cuz theres no way u can use sharing without netbios enabled on one of your protocols.

NETBIOS is required in order for pc's to be able to share resources, even in win2k3. Usually it is enabled in TCP/IP by default, but in some cases it is not. It does however, open up a large security hole that even microsoft has not even considered. Anyone with knowledge of the netuse command and a good password cracker can access a pc on the internet that has NETBIOS enabled. Personally, i think NETBIOS is a horrid idea for this reason, but unfortunately pc's cannot share resources on a windows-based network without it

But be warned, if ur pc's are always on the net, install a decent firewall on the pc that is connected to the net and configure it to deny incoming netbios sessions from the internet. If u dont, it will make it very easy for someone to gain access to ur pc's

unless u pay 4 it, dont expect to be able to get a quality firewall. The best kinda firewall to get is a hardware firewall, if ur client wants to pay the dosh

Do u hav the .NET runtimes installed? That could be causing the prob. I got a similar error in the NAV 2k2 installation when i installed the .NET runtimes
