  1. Hi nuhi. The 1.4b works very well, thanks a million. I have a question regarding your nlite.inf, cabbed in the I386 folder; the questions may be noob, but, I want to modify the file to include some reg tweaks specific to me and my system, that enhance the basic mods covered in nlite to, say, have all toolbars open inline, no text labels, windows maximized; all by default for all users, and so on. I, also, have a line that shows the classic Start Menu, Taskbar, Quick Launch for all users, small icons, classic Control Panel; it and Programs etc. scrolled by default, etc.... The reason I do not want to run a separate tweak file, as I have been doing, is once in a while, not often, and is sporadic-one in eight fresh installs, the admin account gets corrupted so that I have to reboot to get Group Policy editor to show all entries and operate-gpedit.msc. This requires a reinstall because the system will hang for 60 seconds or so at Logon when this occurs; possibly due to a conflict between the tweak inf's. Also, it is just tidier, more organized. 1)[nLite] OptionDesc = "nLite" Tip = "Windows component removal adjustments and tweaks." Modes = 0,1,2,3 DelReg = P AddReg = T AddReg = TO BitReg = B AddReg = T DelReg = P I notice you have the various registry entries spread out over [T] [P] [C] [CT] [TO] ; do these various sections correspond to when in the setup process the various registry entries are written into the registry. ie: the [CT] section contains most of the Current User Desktop, Taskbar/Start Menu, Explorer View settings. What would result if some of the lines were moved and augmented to [T]? 2) In my Tweaks.inf converted from reg files exported after a fresh install using Reg2Inf 4.0 an example of one line is: HKCU,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced","StartMenuFavorites",0x10001,01,00,00,00 In nlite.inf the same line is: HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced","StartMenuFavorites",0x00010001,1 Why is nlite's representation of the DWORD value shorter? Thanks so much
  2. XP Pro SP2.... The tweaks all work, fresh install either as reg file or converted to inf.
  3. for WMP11 go here for individual hotfixes/updates as of May 26, 2007 and links to download: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?showtopic=84 and here for xables forums-an excellent source of knowledge and help for your querry-a thread dedicated to just WMP: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?act=idx RyanVM's post SP2 update pack is that-an unofficial SP3 if you will, incorporating all that is critical, recommended and many released by MS that are for OS enhancement and/or reliability, but, not listed on any of MS's update sites. Some updates are not included-going by KB number-because even though a KB article will list a fix as not replacing another, the files in that package are, indeed, newer than some of those existing on the CDROM or in a previous fix, but, not all. Add to this the fact that you are also slipstreaming all of the MSXML packages, webfolder updates...etc. which may be msi files in original form, and you have a much more functional OS, safe and updated right from install. Lastly, RyanVM states himself somwhere in his forum, I forget where, that some hotfixes by themselves cause more problems than they solve and are excluded from his pack, but, I go to Microsoft update after install using his latest, and Boooggy's latest WMP11 addon, everything is zero-no updates at all required. I use nlite to slipstream IE7 and the latest IE7 hotfixes. Without knowing the nature of your problem, I would suggest you may have made an error in the making of your ISO, I've found this to be my personal experience.
  4. I am not knowledgeable in this area-RIS-etc., but, go here: http://www.doitrightconsulting.net/forum/index.php register for free and Rougespear, the sight owner, has a thread just for RIS and he is sort of a guru in this area; check it out, you won't be disappointed.
  5. No, you cannot just cab the switchless installer, read my previous post again; "If you want to run a Switchless Installer from svcpack you must manually copy it to the svcpack folder and manually enter the executable in the svcpack.inf file." You cannot use nlite to do this with a switchless installer, you must do it manually as described. If you wish to use nlite to integrate all the the DotNets then download for RyanVM; http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4571 and use nlite to do the chore; make sure you slipstream RyanVM's RVMUpdatePack2.1.10-the latest-BEFORE you integrate RyanVM .NET Framework All-In-One Package BETA2 downloaded from the above URL.
  6. Sounds like you are using a Switchless Silent Installer instead of a RyanVM Integrator Addon-which are all compatable with nlite. The Switchless Installer is an executable while the addon is a zip, cab, 7-Zip or Rar archive. nlite slipstreams the latter in "Hotfixes, Updates, Addon Packs" sans quotes. If you want to run a Switchless Installer from svcpack you must manually copy it to the svcpack folder and manually enter the executable in the svcpack.inf file. If you attempt to slipstream the Switchless Installer as an addon nlite will run the executable.
  7. I have done this twice, both were ASUS motherboards, but, I upgraded from a Pemtium III 1.2G to an A8N-SLI deluxe and, lastly, an A8N32-SLI deluxe experiencing no problems at all. I was able to activate by internet the first few installs on each, but, now must phone-again with no problems. I think all that MS is worried about is you only use OEM XP on your, one, computer; this falls under enthusiast-build your own........type thing. When I upgrade to C2D I will use this same OS again, unless I upgrade to 64-bit.
  8. is not current with new Ahead releases; the most recent they discuss is 7.5.9.0 from mid 2006-alot has changed since then; nevertheless, a good site to get some idea......
  9. Are you sure about that? Click: Nero Click on that link and get the following; "Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show." Also, I entered nero burning rom in search box, search forums and got the same error 2 out of 3 times-the third time it produced results. This happens randomly.
  10. Go figure!, I have a support reqest/bug report submitted to RAR labs about this; beta 8 is a little buggy.
  11. All of the Nero setup files in their entirety will be in that new temp folder-as if extracting it with WinRAR.
  12. The Ner 7.9... executable automatically extracts all files to a temp folder within your system Temp folder-usually %systemroot%\Temp\nero's temp folder; I forget the name Nero gives this folder, but it has "temp" in it, sans quotes. What I did was right at the dialogue asking you about the Ask searchbar, open up Windows Explorer, navigate to your Temp folder, copy the Nero created temp folder to another location on your HDD and, then, cancel the install. Rename the copied Nero temp folder to Nero-7.9.6.0_eng, and voila! I have no idea why WinRAR will not extract this; I have WinRAR myself and encountered the same problem.
  13. This works for me flawlessly; ECHO. ECHO Deleting Temp Installation Files RD /S /Q %systemdrive%\install

    RunOnceEx

Ran three fresh realtime installs using nlite1.35, IE7 and the three most recent hotfixes, KB928089, KB929969, KB931768 all slipstreamed at once; in two of the installs RunOnceEx was broken-no ryme or reason to it, but, desktop icon issue is fixed. The RunOnceEx reg entery was completely bypassed/not read/recognized no matter how many times I rebooted until this was added under the title line in my RunOnceEx file; REG ADD %KEY% /V Flags /T REG_DWORD /D 128 /F which hides the dialogue box, so, basically I was installing blind, but, the entire RunOnceEx command ran to successful completion. I found this here: http://www.msfn.org/board/IE7_RunOnceEx_pr...lly_t93061.html from Yzowl also here http://www.msfn.org/board/IE7_RunOnceEx_So...2.html&st=0 are some other good suggestions.
  15. RunOnceEx does wait. It did not for me. It was like when the WAIT switch has no effect in a batch file-which it seldom does- and all your executables run simultaneously to the point where finally the system finishes booting into windows with all of these setup prompts tiled on the desktop; what a mess! I was wandering if, aside from the "REG ADD %KEY%53 /V 2 /D "ping -n 60 127.0.0.1>nul" /f" solution, there is a "pause" instruction that stops the cmd's progress until "any key is pressed" type thing; similar to "pause" in a batch file?
  16. Well, have a lot to learn. Just finished a fresh install; is working OK but, failed in several key areas important to me. I cannot ascertain the root cause of, say, Rougespears's RogueSpearAddonsRuntimesCF_2.5.4 addon failing to install at T-13 because there was an untried variable in an IE7 addon I tried-which runs some RunOnceEx enties of it's own, plus, I used RyanVM's latest update pack release for the first time; sooooo... Further, I absolutely love the RunOnceEx method over cmd batch from GUI, but, I now clearly see the requirement for switches, or additional coding in the script; ie: one, for instance, to force the file to pause after running one executable, before running the next. It was similar to what occurs when "WAIT" does not work in a batch; all the setups ran concurrently-quite a mess! This is going to take some time to read about scripting etc.; learn more about the language. Thanks again, no end to my appreciation for your effort here! Will search out COMSPEC again and add systems command interpreter in the mix, need to know more and understand. I was unaware the U-, uninstall, was inferred by regsvr32; will modify the command to reflect this. I just now finished creating and burning a new bootable DVD, sans the IE7 addon; used nlite to slipstream it as in the past, which, always worked well. Soooo, am now going to blow the partitions and try again; will do a complete install and backup the boot partition so I can try various compilations using RunOnceEx-something I should have done this time.....keeping the faith.
  17. Thankyou Yzowl, "I have made more corrections than I care to mention. You need to fully read and understand the unattended guide before going any further, your grasp of this method is poor." This is my very first attempt at it; had been using batch cmd files until................., absolutely no scripting experience whatsoever, but, have begun selfteaching, so the learning curve..... The unattended guide makes no reference to COMSPEC and a google search basically tells me this is a call to command.com; am I right? I understand my msi errors..... "Lines stating switchless..........................." I stated in my original post I want no unattended installations at this time for the reasons stated and, therefore, there are no switches for any exe's called in the cmd script. As my skill set improves with time and experience then.....The greatest limitation in all of this is the NTFS partitions cannot be formatted before runonce, further, all executables are hard coded to %programfiles%-including msi's; to modify these all correctly and thoroughly requires software-a decompiler possibly, and more knowledge than I currently have-switchless will have to wait; plus I am uncomfortable with no progress bar in anything, I like to see it. ::----Explain---- REG ADD %KEY%01 /V 1 /D "regsvr32 /n /i:U shell32.dll" /f This is a carry over from when the Quicklaunch icon went south after slipsreaming IE7. I found , for me, that a beneficial side effect in continued use even after the Quicklaunch concerns had been solved was my desktop is registered and loaded before explore.exe is loaded, during runonce; allowing me to do a number of things not possible before while the partitions are formatting; ie: move the documents folder entirely-including the "My Music" folder; afterwhich I can restore all my backups to the My Documents folder while F is formatting, set Desktop theme to classic and have it stick, open up nview and set the default geforce video, configure GP....etc.; all items not properly addressed by inf files containing reg tweaks which, for whatever reason, just will not do the job entirely. ::----Explain---- REG ADD %KEY%40 /V 1 /D "%PP%rarkey.rar" /f ....just an easy way to register my purcased copy of WinRAR-it is the unaltered registration file, containing the key etc. they emailed to me upon receipt of my payment. Just install WinRAR and use it to open this file...presto, your copy is registered. "As a final note, you really should create all your directories in seperate cmd files and call the files from your runonceex instead of creating all those individual MKDIR commands directly!" OK, I will do that; as I understand it, all runonceex and cmdlines.txt files go in the $OEM$ root directory on the bootable CD or DVD, so, I will create two runonceex cmd files; one for D:, and a second for F:, call each at the correct location in the original. The "pause" was inserted before "exit" because I ran the cmd from my desktop to see how it worked and to be able to scroll the cmd dialogue box to look at the actual errors realtime after execution; afterwhich I ran regedit, navigated to hklm runonceexe and viewed the results, going by the command line numbers. Your corrected version had several "too many commandline parameters" errors due to typos; ie: "\ instead of \". Corrected the typos and it ran to completely successful conclusion. Thankyou very much, again, for your time. I will burn a bootable ISO and try it tonight.
  18. Would somebody knowledgeable be able to read my preliminary RunOnceEx.cmd file and tell me of the errors, if any? I have read the pertanent information in MSN's unattended guide, but, am not sure of the "\ " argument when adding quotations; for instance, should below REG@Echo Off SET PP=%SystemDrive%\Install\ SET KEY=HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx REG ADD %KEY% /V TITLE /D "Formatting Partitions and Installing Programs" /f ADD %KEY%05 /VE /D "Windows Messenger 5.1 adm file" /f REG ADD %KEY%05 /V 1 /D "%PP%COPY /y "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Install\rtcclient.adm" "%SYSTEMROOT%\inf"" /f written into the original be REG ADD %KEY%05 /VE /D "Windows Messenger 5.1 adm file" /f REG ADD %KEY%05 /V 1 /D "\COPY /y "%SYSTEMDRIVE%\Install\rtcclient.adm" "%SYSTEMROOT%\inf"\" /f and is below correct REG ADD %KEY%07 /V 1 /D "\MKDIR "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Games"\" /f There are no silent switches incorporated yet because I run one boot and three logical partitions, one of which I install all my programs, games etc. to; never default C:\......... The installation is all local on my machine. The file was prepared using RunOnceEx.cmd Creator which I proof read and modified as I understand the appropriate MSN guide article. Please find my corrected version in Setup.zip attached; thanks in advance for any help.
  19. Could it be a problem with bitlocker and the activation wizard?
  20. @acetken: does the full/latest version of Nero Ultra install and function correctly on your current Vista configuration?
  21. There's your problem-Vista; and don't bother going to Nero's support, would lead to even more frustration. @Major R4 English, on XP anyways, is probably final; installed and really gave it a workout; burned two multisession DVD+/-RW's, one DVD+RW while erasing another and erasing two DVD+/-RW's all simutaneously with not even an iota of problems in any fashion. The ISO association problem is fixed and your NeroLite launches and burns an ISO automatically, again, without error; can't thank you enough, man
  22. you are on a roll. R3 would not associate Nero with ISO no matter what; had to go into folder options and do it manually from there, but, all is great.
  23. I only use Nero-have been for six years or more, but, choice is always good; something Ahead took away from us when they redesigned their software. I mean, when I first upgraded to 7 from 6.6-itself beyond reproach in my books; not one coaster, I went through 30 high quality Verbatim DVD+/-RW's in less than a month using Plextor writers. I could not burn a simple backup DVD. Nero support is abysmal, to be polite about it; seriously, it is really, really bad. In the past, say two-or so-years ago Nero support was awesome. Anyways, I had to figure out for myself the root cause of this flaw and it was Nero's media filter executable, reminscent of 98SE, NT and 2000 days loaded up as a running service. I deleted it in the registery "Run" and from my Nero folder-voila, no more coasters. Nero support was two weeks getting back to me on my first support request, and my last ever, by which time I had already solved the problem, only to feed me with the usual; re-install, try different media and my system specs....on and on... I had uploaded my info.txt and one month's worth of history-the running txt file Nero keeps in the root directory of all Nero activity; successes, failures, codes etc. I guess they do not have time to read this information. I do not think I have ever seen such a good piece of software and company go in the toilet so quickly. I've bought Ashampoo and my experience with it was abysmal, Roxio, Ulead...etc. are as bad, or worse than Nero; so, for now, one is stuck. So, this NeroLite is literally a Godsend. Fantastic Major!
  24. Major, One other minor thing; even though Nero is selected as the defacto image file handler during install, ie: bootable ISO, IMG etc., you must go into Nero's options and set it manually. Again, can't thank you enough. Awesome effort!
