How about posting the problem in the dedicated nlite forum?

Windows creates the environment variables such as %APPDATA% before T13, therefore there must still be an error either with something you are doing or with the application which is creating the invalid folder. Explanation: APPDATA=C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data HOMEDRIVE=C: Therefore the folder is incorrectly being created as %HOMEDRIVE%%APPDATA% i.e C:\C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Application Data Anyhow, did you try the code I gave you to remove it? <Edit> It is tested and working on my XP and 2K machines </Edit>

removing "default browser" question in IE
Yzöwl replied to Marthax's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@ blinkdt That file looks more like it is for a full registry repair of IE. Although the important keys and values from my reg.exe version above are there, I thing it may be a little OTT. It may need to be edited if you have installed your program files to any drive other than C:, and I haven't got time to look at what is written in all the hex values. -

The only other way I can think of doing it is to run a batch file, something like this: @echo off cmdow @ /HID for %%a in ("%ProgramFiles%") do set SHORTPF=%%~sa reg add HKCU\Software\Classes\.htm /ve /d "htmlfile" /f reg add HKCU\Software\Classes\.htm /v "Content Type" /d "text/html" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.html /ve /d "htmlfile" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.shtml /ve /d "htmlfile" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.shtml /v "Content Type" /d "text/html" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\DefaultIcon /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE,0" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell /ve /d "open" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell\open\command /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE \"%%1\"" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell\open\ddeexec /ve /d "\"%%1\",,-1,0,,,," /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\ftp\shell\open\ddeexec\Application /ve /d "IExplore" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile /ve /d "HyperText Document" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile\DefaultIcon /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE,0" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile\shell /ve /d "open" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\htmlfile\shell\open\command /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE \"%%1\"" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\DefaultIcon /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE,0" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell /ve /d "open" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell\open\command /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE \"%%1\"" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec /ve /d "\"%%1\",,-1,0,,,," /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\shell\open\ddeexec\Application /ve /d "IExplore" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\https /ve /d "URL:Secure HyperText Transfer Protocol" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\DefaultIcon /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE,0" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell /ve /d "open" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell\open\command /ve /d "%SHORTPF%\INTERN~1\IEXPLORE.EXE \"%%1\"" /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell\open\ddeexec /ve /d "\"%%1\",,-1,0,,,," /f reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\https\shell\open\ddeexec\Application /ve /d "IExplore" /f goto :eofHope this helps! -

I wouldn't suggest you use "Check_Associations"="no" -
Missing 1st Welcome/Setup users screens
Yzöwl replied to Thinkster's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
And here was me thinking that in the first section of my link where it said, "UnattendSwitch="yes" instructs Windows XP Setup to skip the "Welcome to Windows XP" screens, where user account and Internet setting-up takes place." may have helped! -
removing "default browser" question in IE
Yzöwl replied to Marthax's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Do you not want a default browser? or are you intending to set another one as default? <Edit>If you have not set any policies yet, those keys you mentioned will not exist, you just create through the registry edit. </Edit> -
If you implement start "" /w(ait), for your applications all within a single batch file run from runonce, then it should work perfectly, as it did previous to RunonceEx when we all used a start.cmd file. You may also prefer to use cmdow, or similar to hide the window whilst running. Also my initial response wasn't to belittle you, but you said start /wait, when it is a fact that using a title, whether blank or not, is proven more successful. I just thought that you may fing that using that particular syntax would make your existing RunOnceEx work correctly without having to resort to this method as an alternative.

Missing 1st Welcome/Setup users screens

How about reading the guide. -
I've been away that long, I forgot how to use the search function... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=47319 instead of start /wait "mydrive:\mypath\my app.ext" try start "" /w "mydrive:\mypath\my app.ext"

What about RD /S/Q C:\^%APPDATA^%Also if you have a folder by that name, it is due to an error on your part. You would be better off trying to find the cause of the folder creation rather than the fix.

Although I doubt it would ever be an issue with me, I give any advice and remarks freely for any viewers. I'm sure that some people, if angered enough may wish to withdraw something or everything even after a cooling off period. Are you saying that if that was the case that this would not be allowed. I'm aware of the havoc it may cause to the running of the board, search facility, and links etc. Is that the reason, or is it an ownership issue with material posted and entitlements /permissions? Would it for instance be allowed if requested to the board administration, in such a way as to allow minimum disruption. Let's be honest, the main reason for the withdrawn posts will be a retaliative act to cause disruption anyhow. (You made me mad, now I'm gonna show you!)

To find out its current location(s), open the command prompt (Start > Run > cmd > OK) and paste in the following dir "%UserProfile%\.." /s/a/b|findstr "\\*.Launch\\Yahoo.*lnk$" 2>nul

What command are you using now?
-
Have you actually got a setup.ini file? (without one, it cannot delete the shortcuts listed in it under those names). You could also remove the shortcuts using the same method as the folder!

Thanks Alanoll, I caught your reply in the said thread. It does sound a little mysterious though, any more information, or are you bound to what you can say.

Just a quick note about Sygate offering, there are currently many reported problems, whereby in the last couple of weeks version 5.6 of this product have stopped working. Currently the recommendation is to 'Downgrade' to version 5.5 build 2710.

This really depends on how you want the Firewall to work, in my opinion an application level firewall isn't the best idea. Of all the software firewalls I have tried, I cannot think of anything which comes close to the freeware offering SoftPerfect Personal Firewall. You have to know a little about firewalls etc. to use it to best advantage, but in my opinion, knowing about these things should be a pre-requisite of any serious computer user. As for antivirus, there's no such thing as a 100% perfect solution, and it really is down to user preference with regards level of user interaction. I don't want something checking my emails, I'm not interested in the GUI interface design, and I want to update manually when I require it. For this reason I usually go for another freeware product AntiVir PersonalEdition on my main Windows OS, but run Bitdefender and Avast products from other OSes as secondary and tertiary solutions.

Try changing %COMSPEC% to cmd.exe! or to be safe %11%\cmd.exe

I posted a message earlier, upon reading it back, I noted a mistake. No problem, I thought, I'll just Edit it! However the Edit button wasn't there. The message is this one! In an attempt to bypass the button, I decided to add the appropriate URL directly into the address bar, i.e. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=Post&CODE=08&f=80&t=47496&p=329744&st=0 but I get a return error message Sorry, you do not have permission to edit that message Do you know why, or can you fix the problem? Thank you. <Edit> I have now noticed that myt next message in that thread is no longer editable now either! It was before, but no longer. Has there been some sort of change in the way the forum software works? </Edit>

For some unknown reason the edit button has disappeared! I thought I could just type in the appropriate url into the address bar instead, but get 'Sorry, you do not have permission to edit that message' Anyhow, I have noticed that I missed off the following last line ConvertZ = "ConvertZv740" Also bear in mind the command to remove the left over directory will require a reboot!

Well, you've got a directive which adds the shortcuts, (AddLink), but I cannot see a (DelLink) to delete the shortcuts. Also an inf is incapable of removing the directory you created for your program location, therefore that will remain also, it will be empty, unless the program creates additional files or folders there during operation. There are missing sections from your inf too! The following is unchecked, but should help guide you in the right direction [Version] Signature = $CHICAGO$ [DefaultInstall] RequiredEngine = Setupapi AddReg = Startup.Reg, Uninst.Reg CopyFiles = Inf.Copy, ConvertZ.filez UpdateInis = AddLink [DefaultUninstall] RequiredEngine = Setupapi AddReg = NoDir.Reg DelReg = Startup.Reg, Uninst.Reg DelFiles = Inf.Copy, File.Del, ConvertZ.filez UpdateInis = DelLink [Startup.Reg] HKCU,Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run,"%DESCNAME%",,""%16422%\%ConvertZ%\ConvertZ.exe"" [Uninst.Reg] HKLM,%UNINSTAL%\%DESCNAME% HKLM,%UNINSTAL%\%DESCNAME%,DisplayName,,"%DESCNAME%" HKLM,%UNINSTAL%\%DESCNAME%,UninstallString,,"%REMOVCMD% %17%\%FILENAME%.inf" [NoDir.Reg] HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce,RemDir,,"%COMSPEC% /c rd /s/q ""%16422%\%ConvertZ%""" [Inf.Copy] %FILENAME%.inf [ConvertZ.filez] B5fix.dat ConvertZ.cnt ConvertZ.exe ConvertZ.hlp gbfix.dat [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir = 16422,%ConvertZ% Inf.Copy = 17 File.Del = 17 [SourceDisksNames] 55 = %DISKNAME% [SourceDisksFiles] %FILENAME%.inf = 55 B5fix.dat = 55 ConvertZ.cnt = 55 ConvertZ.exe = 55 ConvertZ.hlp = 55 gbfix.dat = 55 [AddLink] setup.ini, progman.groups,, "group1=""%16395%\""" setup.ini, group1,,"""%DESCNAME%"",""""""%16422%\%ConvertZ%\ConvertZ.exe""""""" setup.ini, progman.groups,, "group2=""%16410%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\""" setup.ini, group2,,"""%DESCNAME%"",""""""%16422%\%ConvertZ%\ConvertZ.exe""""""" [File.Del] %FILENAME%.PNF [DelLink] setup.ini, progman.groups, "group1=*", setup.ini, progman.groups, "group2=*", [Strings] ; Non-localizable UNINSTAL = "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" REMOVCMD = "rundll32.exe setupapi.dll,InstallHinfSection DefaultUninstall 132" DISKNAME = "Setup Files" ; Localizable FILENAME = "convertz" DESCNAME = "ConvertZ v740"

You could leave the 'title' blank too and because 'Word' will already be in your path, also there should be no need for the extension because Windows will look for .exe anyhow start "" /w winword
-
Well, from version 3 the program was considered bloated and buggy, and because of this I was under the impression that version 2.95 was the best. I wouldn't mind knowing why either ack-hh!

Help with Batch File for creating subfolders

I'm glad to have helped.
