  1. Thanks for your quick reply! In this case bad news are good news for me. I already thought something was wrong with my system. On the other hand I would have been a little surprised too. Usually my system works like a charme. But as advertised I will try to fix that if I can, and I do hope so.
  2. Welcome to the forum! This thread is about restoring access to MU or WU in Windows XP (Windows 2000 and Windows Vista too). If you only want to introduce yourself, then it's the wrong place here. You can do that there: https://msfn.org/board/forum/76-introduce-yourself33/ Kind regards, AstroSkipper
  3. Can any of you confirm that @heinoganda's cacert_Updater.exe in his ProxHTTPSProxy packages doesn't work anymore? Yesterday I tried to update cacert.pem and I got the message "Roots Certificates could not be updated!". I'm interested to know if I'm the only one having this problem or if it's the same for you. And if so, then I would be inclined to fix the problem.
  4. Of course, a lot. My recommendation is the freeware XMedia Recode for Windows XP SP3. This is the last release for Windows XP: https://www.xmedia-recode.de/en/download_xp.php More recent versions are not XP-compatible. Another option is WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. Here is a giveaway link: https://www.winxdvd.com/giveaway/dvd-ripper-holiday-giveaway.htm. Additionally you can use AnyDVD if you have problems while converting, but you have to use Google for getting a link, and it's commercial software. Hope it'll be what you are looking for.
  5. If your error code is still 0x80072f78, you have missed a step in my linked guide. Check if all has been performed properly, or better, do all step once again by verifying each step! The error code you have posted above has nothing to do with HTTPSProxy. Presumably one or more steps are missing or haven't been performed successfully.
  6. This configuration looks fine. I can see in your screenshot a WU update notification shield. Is access to MU web site now working for you?
  7. Comments can generally only be understood as they were written. In your case without any reference, therefore my answer is absolutely logical. Unfortunately, we are not clairvoyant!
  8. These urls you have to use for accessing MU: http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en or http://fe2.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?g_sconsumersite=1. The url www.update.microsoft.com has to be listed under Trusted Zone with security level to high.
  9. What is "open proxy"? Please be a little more specific! If all is done completely, it'll work in Windows XP in any case. Did you really do any step of this guide?
  10. The term UPX is a shorthand for the Ultimate Packer for eXecutables. @heinoganda had used this Ultimate Packer for eXecutables to generate exe files. Some Anti-virus scan engines (especially at VirusTotal) raised an alarm and erroneously reported that it would be malware. Therefore he had made a version without UPX too. So it's up to you what you want to use, the UPX or noUPX version. I do not use Windows Server 2003 or 2000 but IE6 is presumably too old accessing https web sites successfully using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy. Which proxy did you use? Afaik you have to run the proxy in your host system if your Win 2000 installation is in a VM. But @maile3241 could know that. He is a Win 2000 user too. Ask him!
  11. Great! Congratulations! You did it. So, does that mean my posted guides have helped you? If so, I would be pleased about any reaction to my guides by liking or upvoting. Cheers!
  12. Thank you very much for this information! Very interesting! I did a short Google search and can confirm that openssl-1.1.1 includes support for TLSv1.3. Here is a link to openssl.org: https://www.openssl.org/blog/blog/2017/05/04/tlsv1.3/
  13. You're welcome! Spontaneous formation of a team of MSFN members to solve problems is great indeed.
  14. If that is your complete list of performed steps, then some steps are missing there indeed. For example applying Tls 1.2.reg. installing latest Windows Update Agent 7.6 and so on. And what is ProxHTTPS? Maybe you mean HTTPSProxy. I recommend doing all steps again. Step by step, following my guide. And install ProxHTTPSProxy's or HTTPSProxy's generated root certificate in Trusted Root Certification Authority under account local computer. So, a lot to do. If you have questions relating to MU, ask in this thread. But if you come in trouble relating to one of these proxies, post your problem in my thread https://msfn.org/board/topic/183352-proxhttpsproxy-and-httpsproxy-in-windows-xp-for-future-use/ Regards, AstroSkipper
  15. By the way my "Complete guide for restoring Microsoft Update in IE" as well as my "Final fix of error code 0x80072f8f while accessing WU or MU web site" are tested instructions and definitely complete. If all is done carefully and properly, it will work in any case. If not, then there is a problem in your installation generally.
  16. Describe extensively what you have done so far! Normally if all instructions of both posts have been performed properly, you shouldn't have any error codes. Therefore you missed a step. Check all steps again! PS: @WULover refers to these four updates: KB4467770, KB4019276, KB4493435, KB94228-V3. Install them again!
  17. In my article "ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use" you will find the solution for error code 0x80072F8F. Look here and have fun:
  18. Hi, at first read carefully my "Complete guide for restoring Microsoft Update in IE" in this post: If you have trouble with ProxHTTPSProxy, then you can find everything about it in this post:
  19. Hi to all, I have updated the content of my article in first post. Due to the fact that some of you had problems when running ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in older systems I have examined the correlation of crashes with the SSE2 capability of a CPU. The current results can be found in sections Prerequisites and Versions. Furthermore both versions of Root Certificate Updater have been updated and are now of 02/24/2022. Regards, AstroSkipper
  20. In your linked post the solution was to check if Microsoft Client Network is properly installed.
  21. Due to the fact that some of you had problems when running ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in older systems I have examined the correlation of crashes with the SSE2 capability of a CPU. The current results can be found in sections Prerequisites and Versions of this post: @maile3241 I have mentioned your findings relating to getting access to MU in Windows XP Professional x64 and linked your post.
  22. Of course, I have. Forget about Windows 2000! As you already wrote in a post above: And you are absolutely right. But for all not reasonable people there is an antivirus tool which works with Windows 2000 too, called ClamWin. Here is a link: https://clamwin.com/ PS: By the way I don't think you have an infection in your system.
  23. Beside the manual method to get access to locked registry keys, as described in linked tutorial above, you can use a tool called Registry Permission Tool. It's freeware and can be downloaded from the homepage of this tool: https://www.xeromag.com/fvshare.html
  24. Where did you get a warning? Everyone can and is allowed to express their opinion. Of course, the music makes the sound. We still live in a democracy and enjoy the right to freely express our opinions. We have to realize painfully again and again that this is not the case everywhere in the world! But anyway, I respect hard work. People are different and behave different. All these proxies are great, my favourite is HTTPSProxy, and we actually should be glad being able to use them. But what I don't understand is how you can keep getting stuck on negative aspects when there are so many positives. There are certainly other things to get excited about.
  25. ProxHTTPSProxy and its reinvented successor ProxHTTPSProxyMII were originally developed by whenever. Therefore, first credits to whenever of course. If you want to know which modifications @heinoganda had made to ProxHTTPSProxyMII, you have to read following thread completely: There you can find all changelogs and information about @heinoganda's releases. For example he created ProxHTTPSProxy_PSwitch.exe to start and set up the proxy automatically and delete its settings when closing. He did a lot of modifications and updating. Simply said its version is more recent than the original version. I wouldn't say we praise him. But it's a kind of respect to people having done hard work to a project. Providing programs in that way I don't like too. You feel like a supplicant if you want a download link. My favourite one is HTTPSProxy. @Thomas S. provided it in form of a download link. Unfortunately the link is invalid for a long time, but I decided to provide a fresh one because it would be a pity if such a program were simply lost. You can find the link under section Downlads in my thread: Anyway, HTTPSProxy is more comfortable, easier to manage and control. In a nutshell, simply great!
