It's not RAID problem as Ghost 2003/8 works just fine in my PC with IDE RAID. As for SATA, it'd help if you list your hardware. Also there's the -FNI switch and .http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ghost...003032512525325

Security is relative and not absolute and AV programs are just tools. Comparative tests only refer to their performance around the time of testing. User vigilence is the most important factor in computer security rather than the program, a bit like drivers and cars. Sure, some AV programs do find more viruses than others but that's hardly the point.

[Help] - Updates KB905915 and KB910437 don't install
Takeshi replied to Doc Symbiosis's topic in Windows XP
I got this error for the previous IE Cum Update Test.IE7InstallBlock.Section and it turned out to be because I changed the default Prog Install Dir. It has to be the default. Nothing to do with IE7. Then, a lot of MS error messages don't really mean what they say. -
[Help] - Problem when converting NTFS to FAT32 - [Resolved]
Takeshi replied to pauluk83's topic in Windows XP
Do another chkdsk first. Open a cmd from Task Manager, then close explorer.exe, and execute the above command in the cmd. Or do it offline. -
You can also use the SET and PATH commands.

[Help] Changing Admin account password from another account
Takeshi replied to the_anomaly's topic in Windows XP
Why won't control userpasswords2 work for you? It's the normal method. Perhaps there isn't any other admin account to logon. If you have XP Pro, you can also use Local Users and Groups. Both require that you have administrative privilege. If you're not admin then none of these will work. If you have XP HE, the root Administrator account is available in Safe Mode. ERD Commander actually works on Windows PE priniciple and loads the SAM off line. I'm in the process of trying doing it with MS Windows PE itself and have success blanking the Administrator password. -
Winnt.sif => joinworkgroup fails

That's strange, because the ref.chm reference doesn't use quotes here. -
[ guide | article ] Registry Tweaks
Takeshi replied to Vadikan's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I have a few comments. Well-known security identifiers in Windows operating systems http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;243330 The KB doesn't mention S-1-5-21-SID. It refers to the user currently logged on and is incorporated into HKCR. If you use secondary logon, there will be another set of S-1-5-21-SID and S-1-5-21-SID_classes keys. SIDs are different among different users and between installations. HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT: from Jerry Honeycutt, Microsoft Windows XP Registry Guide, MS Press: strongly recommended reading for those interested in the registry. This means the HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT hive in system32\config\default is not necessarily identical to the NTUSER.DAT hive in the Default User profile. Load the latter and compare it with the former. If you want changes which only affect your own account and not all accounts, then you must only import the reg when you're logged on. I can't see any other easy way to do it. Does anyone know: When are the Default User, Default and other hives created during Setup? And from which files in i386? There's only a SETUPREG.HIV in i386 and this contains the CurrentControlSet001 which will be formed under HKLM\SYSTEM eventually. -
[Question] - Win XP Slipstream + MBSA File List = Vulnerabilities ?
Takeshi replied to Gridneo's topic in Windows XP
I don't use MBSA nor nLite but I suspect that MBSA and WU are scanning different things to determine what updates you have installed. Normally the updates are entered in the registry and hence parsed by the Add/Remove program applet. It looks perhaps MBSA scans the registry entries. RyanVM hinted at something about MBSA here (but I'm not sure what exactly): http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43763&hl= There's a bug fix (894391). http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;873333 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391/ -
winxp unattended installation - mounted partitions

Yep, I forgot net use is for network shares. Diskpart has assign mount=path command, has that been tried? -
[Question] - Win XP Slipstream + MBSA File List = Vulnerabilities ?
Takeshi replied to Gridneo's topic in Windows XP
I don't think MBSA scans are reliable here. Are all the updates listed in Add/Remove Programs? -
Just logon as Administrator in Safe Mode. Add your own account to the folder's ACE in the Security tab. Or take ownership totally: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;308421

Forgotten Administrator Password in Winnt.sif
Takeshi replied to nixclusive's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Is there any way to retrieve the admin password from winnt.sif? A: Well yes, but not directly. You can guess the pw by trial and error and let Setupmgr encrypt it again and see if it matches. -

Have you tried the net use command at all? -
disable system restore function just for systemdrive
Takeshi replied to darksimoon's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It looks it might be possible to do so but only after installation. 1. The drive references for SR use GUIDs in the registry and drivetable.txt, 2. I can only find a WMI method: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...122120121120120 Perhaps someone fluent in WMI scripting could modify this to be an automated script. But then on different machines drive letters might be different. -
I've said it all before in the forum about my DELL laptop with XP Pro OEM. The Product key in winnt.sif is used to install the OS, and it went through Sysprep. But the key is different from the one shown on the COA. In fact the installed key didn't go through WGA.

First of all, Zxian is doing a good job there! Would [Qu.] or [Query] be better than [Question]? Either term would be more concise but still meaningful, shorten the topic title a bit, make the board topic titles less repetitive visually and leave a little more space for the actual title. Thanks for your attention.
-
I'd suggest that: MSFN Expert should be renamed to something else other than Expert (for those who didn't know they can change the title). I've seen members here who have >1000 posts and yet don't appear to be real "experts".

For some reason My Computer is no longer showing its category view, with the Files Stored on This Computer title and category divisions missing. The folder and driver icons are just listed alphabetically (including the shared document folders at the bottom). The category view should be like this: http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews...tm_home_018.gif I've searched this forum without luck (not surprised) and Google. I do have this reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee} reference (and many more in Google): http://www.theeldergeek.com/files_stored_o...is_computer.htm and this one (related to My Documents showing): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths Administrator Takeshi It also happened on another XP and System Restore corrected it. But I want to know where the fault is. I'm lost how to reset it. Any ideas please, thanks. =================================== EDIT 18 Dec 2005: Never mind: solved, as usual, by myself.

remove shortcut arrow(another way)
Takeshi replied to Rico.JohnnY's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I've used the old method (IsShortcut). What do you mean by double items in R click? I don't see any. -
Where this all fit in the context of an unattended installation?
-
Something isn't quite right here. The *.nls files are to do with language. Is your master image for sysprep corrupt or of a different language?

It's possible to integrate SP2 to DELL OEM CDs. There're a few threads on this and yesterday I did it (integrated SP2 to DELL OEM SP1a) successfully by following the instructions in those threads.
