Look here: Recovery console with Unattended CD

The layout of the US/Can physical keyboard is slightly different from the UK one. The problem is that with the US KB using the UK EN IME I can't type the \ (backslash). (It types the #. The # key types the £.) You can type the \ with the Canadian English IME but then it's the same as the US En.

If the printer worked before until two weeks ago, then logically the driver was NOT to blame as such. If that XP driver worked before, then trying a Win2k driver just doesn't make the best sense. Why don't you first try uninstalling the printer completely from XP, then reinstall it and see?

Do you actually mean the BIOS CMOS setup screens?
-
Yes I'd have bought an 80-pin cable for the CD-ROM too. I think it's backward compatible and you could use it on the HD for testing.

You'll find the following post easily if you search using "language" in the forum. WINNT.SIF language settings how to stop US from installing Likewise, search "location" and you'll find: Language And Regional Options, cannot change location details

Thanks. I don't quite follow this sentence I'm afraid. Would you mind elaborating it further or telling me the name of the book you mention so that I can look it up?

There's no scandisk in WinXP. If you mean chkdsk then it's log file is in the Event Viewer.

simple file sharing I don't think making a RA connection has anything directly to do with SFS. SFS can't be turned off in XP HE but XP HE can use RA. Are you running XP Pro or HE? Has it been tweaked, or nLited? Are you behind a router? As I understand, RA can also be invited by email. Does that work?

Just delete it. As I said, most of the MUICache entries can be deleted safely so don't worry too much or make a big fuss about what is really trivia. If you're really paranoid about editing the registry then leave it well alone, or back up the key first before deleting anything. It's no big deal!

There isn't any setting you can change to alter the OS language. There're extra files in localised versions of XP so you cannot just edit the US En CD to change the lang. Even the boot files are different. Officially, there's no MUI pack for XP HE.
-
It's not designed this way. There's no hibernation of profile AFAIK.
-
Thanks for your feedback. The bootcfg command corrects the bootl.ini file. In your case I didn't expect it was boot.ini error, otherwise you might see the classic "NTLDR is missing" message. So you don't really need to use it now Windows is booting. I'd buy a new cable. It's not expensive. Until you try it you can never be sure if the BSOD will go away.

Since this qu is in the unattended forum, presumably you're after an unattended method of doing what you want?

Often there's more than one way to do things in computers and outside computers. I quite like it when different people come up with their solutions. Of course in a given situation one would be the best, or the most simple, or the most elegant for that particular need. I'm inclined to opt for the most simple which is usually the most elegant. It reminds me of my well respected old (now deceased) maths teacher at school in SW England. He would show us without fail all the possible ways to solve a maths problem. Truly inspiring.

[Question] - add English menu support (MUI)for windows xp chinese vers
Takeshi replied to vipha's topic in Windows XP
AFAIK, there isn't any English lang MUI for localised versions of XP so whether it's VLM or XP Pro is besides the point. The poster is, I think trying to make (DIY) an MUI in the MS fashion. For a start, have a look in the inf files inside the MUI folder in an En XP Pro with an MUI installed. And perhaps install an MUI and monitor what files are changed/added. -
The blinking cursor indicates the HD's boot sector cannot be found. Check the BIOS is booting HD first. Then you could still try the Recovery Console's commands: fixboot fixmbr bootcfg /rebuild

I'm not sure at all if ICS works with non-Windows OSes, assuming your Sparc Ultra2 is running Linux or Solaris.

This was only asked a few days ago here.

Windows XP Media Center Edition
Takeshi replied to KamiQuazi's topic in Windows XP Media Center Edition
I'd have thought so as MCE is based on XP Pro but others can verify in due course. This question belongs to MCE forum. -
Well, did you delete any other files? Is your IE working? Can you browse the internet with it? Also it's worth trying again, after rebooting and make sure any firewall is not blocking it. I'd also try manual update and see if it works as it'll narrow down the problem somewhat.
-
Your chance of recovery diminishes every time you write on the HD so don't do anything on this partition or drive. Install any tools elsewhere and mount the disk as slave. Important data should not be stored in C and should have regular backups.
-
I doubt deleting those folders is the cause of your problem. They are for uninstalling the updates and I remove them periodically without affecting WAU. I suspect there's something else going on. Windows update needs a proper working IE to download the patches in the background.

It does look like this entry can safely be deleted. The entry should not normally be there and it could be malware, so check the the system32 folder too. The MUICache stores many previously used records that can be cleaned out. I see many people using this cleaner and that cleaner and often they cause more grief than good, either by overzealous cleaning leading to a corrupt system, or doing things you don't understand. The MUICache is just the case in point. The entries can be left there without much harm but here it keeps making a big fuss!

If backing up and restoring the files to another drive works it's a security loophole. (People say copying them to a FAT32 drive also works.) In any case it's a long winded way to solve the problem and you still can't open the files on their original location.
