  1. how do I find out if the DDR RAM I have in my new PC is unbranded or Crucial? I asked in my specs for Crucial DDR RAM, but I get the feeling that they put in unbranded. Is there any software that will detect the brand I have? I will have to try out sisoft sandra pro 2001 to find out, but any other suggestions are welcome
  2. If you tried both fresh installs of WinME and WinXP, and you still get a complete system lock-up when accessing the floppy drive, then it sounds like a hardware problem. Bad IDE cable probably?
  3. i use a U.S. Robotics 56k External V.90 faxmodem. It took a bit of fiddling with windows XP to get it to see my modem since it detected the wrong one.
  4. If you burned the ISO image in Nero, and you got that ASMS error, then try another burner, since Nero is known to have problems with deep directories on the WinXP CD
  5. I have volcano as my 3D Text screensaver.... image so, what exactly am I looking for? I don't see anything unusual.

  8. Are you sure its not one of those chain emails? The person who made this email forgot to mention the time zone of 7.00pm.
  9. That's xper's site and it uses PHP Nuke. AFAIK, it doesn't require any knowledge of PHP to function since its already built. Its operated by a GUI. Themes are downloaded seperately for it everything you need is at www.phpnuke.org
  10. www.phpnuke.org I'm gonna use it if I ever get around to it!
  11. At WinXP command Prompt, type: CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS if you want to run extra switches, just type this for a list: CONVERT /?
  12. I haven't used outlook, but it sounds like you have a setting in outlook that tells it to keep email messages on the mail server. Try and find this setting and uncheck it, if it exists.

  15. These are the best ones I've seen! http://vzone.virgin.net/aaron.stevens/winxp_front_cover.jpg http://vzone.virgin.net/aaron.stevens/winxp_back_cover.jpg Although they are a bit large, a program called CoverPro will automatically take the jpg file and resize it.
  16. I guess you used Nero to burn the CD? Quote from Microsoft: "You must use the “Finalize CD” and “Disc-At-Once” option in Nero, or you will get the error: "FATAL ERROR: Installation of side by side assemblies failed" during setup." Also, please do not [b:4c85673967]Double Post[/b:4c85673967][/color:4c85673967] with the same question

    Boot disks?

Don't run setup.exe in DOS. Load up smartdrv.exe from a bootdisk (win98 ) and then run x:i386winnt.exe where 'x' is your CD-ROM Drive

  19. if it was slow... were you using FAT32 in XP? Pretty much all commercial defragmenters are really fast in 9x/ME operating systems (taking 5-10 min) But they're slow on NT systems using FAT32. Diskeeper 7 on FAT32 Win2k: 3-4 hours Diskeeper 7 on NTFS Win2k: 5-10 minutes
  20. Yeah, when I said front, I meant the outer edge of the disk. end = inner disk
  21. Hmm... lots of mixed opinions here!! Here's mine: I use the ATI Radeon 64mb DDR in my machine, and it has worked great with Win2K and WinXP, no OS or game crashes at all. I previously tried 2 different geforce cards (256 DDR and 2 MX) and I haven't been so lucky. Crash, crash, and more crashing in games, including a couple of BSODs in Win2k. ATI Radeon 64mb is a great card, good for DVD and games, and even my new machine (due tomorrow) is also coming with the same card.
