The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
BlouBul replied to Gradius2's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Your cables are definitely connected right if you can talk to your drive through Hyperterminal (that is the only purpose of all the cables). Are you sure all your cables are connected when you test your drive again after the fix (eg SATA data cable )? You can also try the so-called optional commands given by Aviko here. -

No, DKU-2 will NOT work. -

The DKU-5 works the same as the CA-42. See FGA #6 for more info. The link given there will show you how to easily identify Rx and Tx. -
I just noticed you have been asking around elsewhere as well to find this extremely rare and elusive tool. Just for the record, you won't find a cable like the one you posted a photo of here, you have to convert it yourself with the method given in the link in FGA #6. And the colours might (read WILL) differ from those in your photo.

Try your local mobile shop or ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=nokia+ca-42&_sacat=See-All-Categories (for under 3 bucks) If you buy it new it usually comes with a driver cd.

You are welcome Glad you managed to fix it Just for the record, the colours are not important as different manufacturers uses different colours to confuse the poor people who try to identify wires by the colour method . A better method is given in the link in FGA #6 -

Just carefully try the whole fix again from the beginning exactly as described here http://mapleleafmountain.com/seagatebrick.html. If it still doesn't work, try the optional commands given by Aviko here You can try it as many time as you want till you do it right and it works -

Glad you managed to fix it Only strange thing is the ST31000340NS is an ES.2 and NOT a 7200.11 which is suppose to use a slightly different procedure Link to ES.2 fix: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/129551-unlocking-terminal-of-seagate-es2-in-bsyled000000cc-state/page__p__833568#entry833568 -

The "good" news is You do NOT have the BSY or LBA0 bug. With this bug, once your drive is bricked, it stays bricked until you unbrick it. There is no "now it's bricked and now it is not bricked". The bad news is I do not know what is wrong with it. As already advised by VideoRipper, start a new thread and see if someone can help you. Also try putting the hdd in an external USB housing and see if you can access it like that. @VideoRipper: Welcome back 1. Start with FGA #1. 2. Then continue to this sticky. 3. If still not sure start at step 1 -
There are NO smiles, but all look exceedingly happy. And yes, there are no lips, but plenty teeth. To get back to current affairs (of which there are plenty): although there is NO Rugby World Cup being played there (it is being played in Nieu Zealand, which is obviously NOT behind the green glass door), there are plenty of Wallabies, All Blacks, Springbokke and even Azzurri to be seen, but NONE of the Les Bleus, or anyone else from the Six Nations, Pumas or American Eagles could be found anywhere.

Which manual? I hope you are not using an USB to RS232 See and on the previous page Once you have the right converter (USB to 3.3V TTL), make sure you have the right driver for Windows 7 installed and you can see the converter in Device Manager (in control panel under Hardware and Sound). Then read the Troubleshooting Manual if you have more problems http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/147532-fga-for-the-seagate-720011-drives/ especially point 4 and 5. Also do a loopback test to make sure you can talk to your hdd BEFORE connecting it to your hdd. -

Did you try switching Rx and Tx? You probably did if you read the stickies, but thought I'll throw that also into the mix for the unlikely scenario that you forgot. -

Go back to /2 and see if you can spin up. No use to try and continue if you get an error there. Otherwise, just pull out the power now and redo the procedure. -

Look some more. (Hint: there might be more cables coming from your PSU that look like the one in jaclaz's post) -

Read FGA no.7 AGAIN: That means the reason you normally get random charactors is that your gnd wire touches one of the other two. check all your connections carefully. -

Are you sure your SATA cable / port is working? Did you try it on a different PC? -

The only advice I can give is to echo jaclaz's comments. Repeat the whole exercise again, carefully checking and re-checking all steps and connections. -

You can try that. Do the whole procedure again carefully from scratch and remember to power it down when recommended. -

You forgot to do the "optional" power down step. Power down and redo the last part.
