  1. Thats a good point, I love my IBM, and there's a hitachi travel star sitting in front of me right now! LOL!
  2. Uh... WinXP definitly cannot run as a domain controller, a DNS server, media server, whatever using microsoft server technologies. Not only are they not released to the XP family of computer (2003 is not XP btw), you cannot even install them. The only server service that you can install on a WinXP computer is IIS 4 and SMTP proxy... now, it is possible to install those technologies if you are not using ms platform tools...
  3. Definitly good visual appeal, the cursur is irritating, but.. no matter on that... Def good practice on you to place the form validation on a server side script, and to vary the password promt... A few issues with the coding, remember, a </body> tag only comes at the end of a site, you have at least two in there... Another note, i suggest you use tables to make your design easier to edit and maintain! oh, and your 'no right click' coding doesnt work on Opera... So, i wouldnt rely on that too much... otherwise (Y)!
  4. Hmm... Dont know if its just bad maintence/whatever, but in the past 3 months I've seen no less than 10 WD drives fail and need replacing, this goes for new to old drives... Everyone who doesnt have a WD seems to be fine, and those clients whom I install Seagate's on, dont have any more probs... I'd vote Seagate for desktop and server drives, but, I think that the WD Scorpio rules for notebooks
  5. ah... i guess you could just scrap the windows bootloader altogether and install Lilo or Grub... LOL!!!! Um, you could boot into the repair windows mode on the install cd and run the repairmbr command... not really feasible, but thats the best i can come up with, sorry.
  6. I may be wrong on this, but it should be possible to just copy the NTDETECT.COM, ntdlr, and boot.ini to the primary (boot) partition of the drive in question... making sure of course that boot.ini is configed correctly to point to the right location...
  7. Not really... if its just that one app running on a dedicated box, then essentially all your going to get out of Win2k3 is stability... and unless its mission critical, then thats not really a big worry... Application performance usually has to do with the kernal, and the kernals for Win2k3 and WinXp are pretty close to the same...
  8. Oh, picky picky... personally I like the look of the command shell... couldnt you just use the WPI project on MSFN to give the same effect, or does it have to be done on install? If thats the case, Ill just be quiet, because I have not a clue. EDIT: Eagerly waiting on OrcoXP's answer... should be interesting
  9. I know there is a way to set the perferred domain via the GPO, but I cannot remember where in that mess it is... I think there is also a way to disable the whole dern select domain box from somewhere in the registry... Hope the knowledge that something can be done helps, even though I cannot remember how to do it... srry
  10. Not easy to do... Can you give us some more details on your program... for instance, is this C++ app a DLL, LIB, or EXE... also, are you developing in J#, or pure Java?
  11. It is my understanding that it is not possible to do this. The logon box gets its values via a API call to the system which returns whatever domains the computer is joined to... Why do you want this feature though, seems simpler just to educate your users...
  12. I've seen this happen before, but never after using Xpize... All thats happening is windows is stumbling going through the list of things it needs to do... Check out what your memory situation is like, Xpize might have simply added a huge memory load to your system and its stumbling because of inherent memory latency...
  13. I would suggest you make a batch script, so, it would look sort of like this REM Simple batch... start \wait Installer1.msi start \wait Installer2.msi with the start command, you simply add the 'wait' flag, and it stops and waits till execution is complete... this method is also easier because now you only have one entry in your RunOnceEx list, the batch file...
  14. Dont know what the problem was, I had to reset both my router and AP, and now im able to access it just fine... Go figure... strange though, i was able to connect to every non-msoft related website just fine! whatever...
  15. Cool, dont know then... Personally, I still cannot connect, and I tried to remote shell via sourceforge, and it couldn't connect there either... Slightly irritating, thats for sure... got to look into this more I guess, see whats wrong with my system...
  16. Hey people; Well, its been probably 3hours since I first saw this, but I cannot access ANY of microsoft's servers. That includes, *.microsoft.com, *.msn.com, www.hotmail.com, messenger server... Tried pinging there servers, but cannot get a returned packet... So, is this just a Me problem, or are other people seeing this too???
  17. Lol, Ok Ok Ok, I'll concede to both my points, (this is caused by the fac that I have not installed WinXP with SUK in over 3 years), WinXP Pro VLM and WinXP Pro SUK are two different compiliations!, (I have to find my WinXP SUK Cd now! scary thought), and going be how XP Home installs, I am going to assume that you do have to register through msoobe.exe... BTW: My XP installs, do pass windows authentic install verification... do you want a screen shot? Sorry for misleading everyone here, I guess I need to more completly check my information before handing it out to people... *sheepish grin*
  18. sheepish grin, i've just found out that on WinXP Home it DOES ask me to activate, but, unless my WinXP Pro CD is just buggered, no it does not, ill install a copy tomorrow, i might be forgetting something... but to the best of my knowlage
  19. No, not in any UNATTEND.txt... K, follow me through here, take a off the shelf version of windows, install it with no modifications in unattended ways whatsoever... begin instakkm about halfway through you'll come across a screen that asks you for your cd key, if you enter a valid key, no matter if its VLK, SUK, or whatever, once you get into windows itself, you do not have to register with microsoft via the msoobe.exe progam. All, every single one of my windows cd's does this, granted i've gotten them through suppliers in russia (legal msoft suppliers mind you), and none of them, providing you instert a valid key, and it has not been modified off the original source, asks you to enter a key via msoobe.exe. does this mean russian cds are just special, or, are we all just misunderstanding each other?
  20. SUK: Standard User Key, like a Volume License Key, but its only for single users., its the generic term for Retail Keys and Upgrade Keys...
  21. @ un4given; its true, i would send you my SUK and VLK and CD to prove it if it wasnt completly illegal... in all my experiance, if you have ANY SORT of WinXP Pro key, and you enter it during install, then you a)do not need to activate with microsoft, and b)will work with any WinXP Pro Activation key, it will not work with a WinXP Home key :EDIT I have to ammend that statement a bit actually, its a bog standard off the shelf WinXP Pro Retail SP1 version 2002 Edition... also have done it with a slip streamed SP2 (just for kicks, i just tried installing WinXP home with my VLK on VMware, and nope, it didnt work...)
  22. You dont really have to search for the image, just the beginning of the image header... its a standard stream search call for hex $ffd8 something like this Private Function FindJPG(ByVal mPicStream As String) As String Dim mPic As String Dim mSearchString As String Dim iPos As Integer = 1 Dim iFound As Boolean Do Until iFound = True mSearchString = Mid(mPicStream, iPos, 1) & Mid(mPicStream, iPos + 1, 1) If mSearchString = ChrW(255) & ChrW(216) Then iFound = True Else iPos = iPos + 1 End If Loop mPic = Right(mPicStream, Len(mPicStream) - (iPos - 1)) Return mPic End Function and yes, adding it does change the whole form to multipart mime... hmm, how to get around it... ill think on it...
  23. I dont actually know about the OEM version, however, its just a key, I have successfully used both a VLK and a SUK for a bog standard off the shelf WinXP cd... I was simply thinking that because OEM's can create standard installs, wouldn't it also accept a VLK? now i could be wrong considering that i dont have the windows source, but the msoobe.exe doesnt change whethor its an Home, Pro SUK, Pro VLK, ect...
  24. Thats what I would go for, so long as you defrag pretty routinly, it doesnt matter how much time the defrag engine takes, because it will be pretty small...
  25. What do you mean, some files missing, as in the Copy Section whilst still in the crappy looking dos emu??? if so, how are you able to keep on installing!!! if some dll's are missing after the install routine is finished however, then there is no problem. And all you would need to do after install would be to enable file and printer sharing... placing them on the same workgroup helps as well.
