  1. Ive been waiting for something like this for some time! BlueCoat is giving Free 1 year licenses for Home Users to 'K9 Web Protection'. This is the same web filtering used in ZoneAlarm SecuritySuite. However since this is just the webfiltering, hardly anything needs to be installed on the computer, since all filterting is performed server side. This means it doesnt affect your computers performance, and you dont need to keep updating blacklists/whitelists of urls. This also means it can be a very small download, only 214kb! Hope this helps someone. http://www.k9webprotection.com/ http://www.bluecoat.com/ Screenshots: Alert - http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/6213/alert0ku.png Advanced Settings - http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9492/advanced6ve.png Overrides - http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/9521/overrides3hg.png

  3. well its a late reply, but i looked into the 7800gt and i dont think anyone has made an agp version yet. Two interesting cards i saw were the passive cooled 6800 and X800XL both from gigabyte.
  4. about that Neoshooter app i mentioned above, it demands to be installed the first time, but ive copied the installation folder to other machines and it works fine. I saw another free screnshot app not mentioned here, that was lighter on memory than Neoshooter, but it lacked too many features.

  10. I dont generally like the 3d mark contests because the tests dont accurately reflect the current crop of games. First the specs then the scores. Everything is stock speeds btw, I dont overclock. specs: AMD Venice 3000 ATI 9800 Pro 128MB 1GB Corsair XMS PC3200 Shuttle XPC SN95G5 v3 score: 3Dmark05 Score: Game Tests 3DMark Score: 1010 CPU Tests CPU Score: 982 When i built this machine for myself i made sure it would be able to play my most demanding game with the settings i wanted, namely UT2004 with Highest Settings on 1280x1024 which it accomplishes. I went cheap on the cpu because i knew that i could always buy a better one later. Im not upgrading it for a while because i see no reason to. But i would like to get opinions on what would be the best Socket 939 CPU and AGP card for this system? And where you think my pc's weakpoint is (my guess the cpu)?
  11. from my research i gather that FLAC encodes and decodes faster than WavPack. The Lowest And Highest Encode setting in FLAC makes little difference. WavPack achieves slightly better compression than FLAC. WavPack also has a few more features and better support. Would others agree or disagree?
  12. Ive used the program in the past, and recently due to finals have started using it again It works great, I am just curious if others use something else to get up in the morning, or is this the official college alarm clock?! http://www.geocities.com/vinodtandon/cac/ screenshot
  13. cube?
  14. hmm I voted for FLAC because thats what I've been using for a while. But I will check out Wavpack. Im not sure i like the idea of lossy/hybrid compression though. Either way it seems these two are the only good choices http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flac http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wavpack http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...less_comparison
  15. wow! wonder what they will do next year?

  21. I would expect more game companies to take advantage of the xbox 360 controller, i think only the wired controller can be hooked up to the pc for now. you can find more info about it here: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/productdetails.aspx And some reviews: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1884679,00.asp http://www.mattbrett.com/archives/2005/11/...windows-review/ http://xbox360.gamezone.com/gzreviews/r28003.htm
