Questions about NAS (Network Attached Storage)
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Hardware Hangout
well this does give me some ideas, I honestly forgot about external enclosures. I do like the Vantec one I found at newegg, but it does not have an ethernet output so I would need some adapter or a new router. Speed does not seem to be an issue as USB 2.0 and 100 mbit ethernet are both capable of the peak transfer speed of a 7200 rpm hard drive. One large issue is I have not found a router that supports writing to ntfs, only fat32. I did see something about full support for the ext3 file system though. Seems like two choices at the moment: Go with another internal drive, keep a pc running for it, save money. Or spend almost twice as much buying an enclosure and new router or other hardware and get only limited file system support. I am obviously leaning towards the first, but if anyone has any more information I welcome it -
Hello all I am currently looking to buy another hard drive soon, and this time around I am considering using some form of NAS for my needs. I have some hopefully basic questions that some may know the answers to. Can I attach a regular internal hard drive to my router (Netgear WGT624) some way? This would be ideal because I would not need a new router and internal drives are cheap. Probably not I am guessing :-p Can I 'convert' an internal hard drive into an external one and plug it into a router either through USB or ethernet in some way? Again this is cheaper, but it would give more options about what hard drives I can use, and should give the ability to convert it back into an internal one if I want. An issue I have heard some people having with NAS is support for only FAT32 partitions, I want to know if I can have an NTFS formatted external drive on the network. And of course have read and write access? What are the disadvantages to using NAS? Transfer Speeds? Cost? Thanks

well I am not sure of the limitations of the boot screen for vista. I believe you can only use 256 colors, in the example image above no dithering was used so it could be possible. I havent had a chance to try cracking open the boot screen files yet, but if i do i will share what i come up with.

I was actually just going to post about this article! someone needs to make this one and in 1024x768

You might also be referring to the 'glare' that is added to the transparent windows. I show how to remove this effect in this following topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=86972 Note that the background is still blurred by the foreground window, however I know there is a vista tweak tool that claims it lets you disable or adjust the blur, whatever that means. http://www.tweakvi.com/

I am tempted to close this topic because what you might be trying to do is probably against your schools computer policy and quite possibly illegal. If this topic continues on about how to defeat security i will delete it understand that. I see you understand what DeepFreeze does, you can try to unfreeze the computer but you will probably break it. The other running processes are probably used to remotely manage the pc's and have nothing to do with "get by school blocks". These "blocks" you talk about are probably done at the network level that is web filtering etc. You might be able to proxy through your home pc I've seen this 'ignored' at schools before. You can obviously try to close the processes using 'end task' but I doubt you have the system privileges to do that. I would suggest you use a bootable linux live cd or bat pe cd if possible, it might give you some more options without causing trouble.

[Release] Vista Screensaver Ported to XP Build 5308
DigeratiPrime replied to UtCollector's topic in Application Add-Ons
I'll try it out even though I usually only use the blank screensaver -
extremely annoying, and almost pointless when you have portableapps.com

nuhi I noticed in the changelog: "fix: Media center dependency" and I noticed the ehRecvr now works fine when the 'Error Reporting' service is removed. So TY for that However MCE still crashes after 10 seconds for me, I took my existing post vLite 0.5 install source and only removed the two System momponents that were left over using vLite 0.6 (Security Center and System Restore). So this bug appears to have persisited. I can try redoing redoing it from the begining using only vLite 0.6 and seeing if that helps, and if necessary/possible isolate down to one of those components.

What Anti-Virus do you Use/Recommend?
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
I looked around and at the homepage for AVG I see "AVG Free 7.1 version will be discontinued on 15th of Jan 2007". After that you will need to use version 7.5 which is still free. I dont see what the big deal is? Apparently a lot of people are confused... http://digg.com/software/Inaccurate_Story_...nued_v_7_5_free Besides AVG is not the only free antivirus software for home users. -
thats about double what the price should be... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148134

What Anti-Virus do you Use/Recommend?
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
well I have looked at alot of software, including AVG but not recently. But I do not see any evidence (screenshots?) to support the claim it has a timebomb in this discussion. Perhaps it does perhaps it does not, I dont know. What I do know is I dont want to see this pointless bickering continue. AVG is at the end of the day just a piece of software, and no one is forced to use it. No more personal insults or I'll just delete posts impartially. -
N64 Super Mario 64 in 16:27 by Spezzafer
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Gamers Hangout
ty Zxian btw I got around to watching this last night and it is really amazing. This run is not just an improvement of the previous, there are some extreme new glitches that are exploited, its just insane! If people are unable to watch it natively through the emulator you can download the video capture here: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/torrents/supermario6...aka.avi.torrent http://www.archive.org/details/supermario64-tas-16stars-aka -
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/134/ I used this all the time, now compatible with Firefox 2.x
-
also for those looking to get rid of the status bar I recommend the Fission extension https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1951/ it will integrate the progress bar into the address bar and also has an option to display "active link/mouse-over link in address bar"

http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2006/11/21.html I RTFA and I completely agree with it, I have thought exactly the same thing before. Anyone have a different idea? I would actually like to modify the shortcuts for those buttons in the start menu to do exactly what this article concludes.

Sounds like Acronis True Image but not as good.
