  1. has anybody tried this thing yet? Also, will WinRAR open the .7z extension?
  2. i dunno...whaddaya think? 50 bucks ok...? What about this one? -->> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16829102176 CREATIVE Sound Blaster Live! 24bit 70SB041000000 Sound Card - Retail
  3. Alright, I've got a report...but not quite sure what to make of it. Last night, I heard that sound even when my PC was powered down. So I did a little test, and when it first starting making that noise again, I pulled to audio jack out of the sound card. I just thought to do that because if it still did it like that, then it probably was something with power. My guess is that it is the onboard sound, which I'm kinda disappointed about because I heard nothing but good things about the NForce II chipset, and now it gives me this. I suppose a sound card upgrade is in the plans....I'm not sure how good to get one though. Honestly, I do very little gaming, so I don't need great sound, just sound that is nice and doesn't make this static sound Any recommendations?? Also, if my logic is flawed here, please help, is the speaker capable of making any sort of sound at all (static, hum, buzz) without it plugged into the sound card, just plugged into power? I don't know And as far as replacing cords...how do i replace them if the are all hooked to my speakers? I don't have very good electrical knowledge, if I'm supposed to rewire it or something. Any more advice would be helpful...thank you much for the great advice given thus far! I look forward to some more! WoRdUp48
  4. thanks a lot for your reply ripken!! I currently have my speakers plugged into my UPS, would that stop some of the interference or could the power still be a cause. I'm just in a college apartment, so I'm not sure there is much I can do about the power, but I will look into the sound card. Anyone else have any advice? Thanks
  5. Hey guys, I've been coming here a while just mostly browse and pick up info from everyone else. Now I have finally come upon a problem. Occassionally, as in 4 or 5 times during the course of a day, I will hear an intermittent staticy sound coming from my speakers. It is not a constant sound, just off and on for about 15-20 seconds. Then it goes aways completely (until a few hours later). At first I thought maybe a cell phone or something else nearby, but nothing has been around all that time that I know of. The environment on my desk always seems to be different. Anyway, I'm thinking its got to be either the speakers or the soundcard (its actually onboard NForce 2 sound on the Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo). I can't figure out which though. If anyone can help me on how I might pinpoint the problem, I would appreciate it! Thanks, and I look forward to your replies. WoRdUp48
  6. surely someone out there uses SAV CE 9.x/10.x and uses the virus scanner for something....All I need to know is what file (exe) to use and then I think thats it...I've tried a few, but nothing seems to happen... Anyone out there help...
  7. Thank you for your reply DigeratiPrime. I am happy with the download manager i currently am using, but will give that leechget a try sometime. However, I'm still trying to find a way to integrate it with my SAV CE 9.x/10.x If anyone can help please do....Also, are there any parameters I need to specify? Thanks, WoRdUp48
  8. Hello everyone, I currently use the Internet Download Manager program, and im trying to get the virus scanning capabilities to work with it and SAV. I have two different systems, one with SAV 9 and the other with SAV 10. I'm not quite sure which is the file I need to point my download manager to for it to scan my downloaded files after I've downloaded them. I have looked around symantec's site, but I cant find anything. Please share if you have a ny helpful advice. I would appreciate it very much! WoRdUp48
  9. what about integrating the resources and extras cds as well as the video cd (CD's 5-7)? is that possible as well?
  10. Hey guys, I've got a bit of a dilemma here. I've got a Mac without a DVD burner, but I have a Mac .dmg file that needs to be burned with a DVD burner. I'm positive there is a way to burn it on a PC (even if I have to convert it to a PC iso format first), but I am not not knowledgable enough to know how. I have played around with a program call TransMac, but can not figure that thing out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! WoRdUp48
  11. Hello there, I really like what you have done with this program. The only thing I would really like to see done is to make the install process more customizable. Perhaps you could have a screen where you could "uncheck" the features that you do not want installed. That was really the only gripe I had about it when I installed it last time. Other than that, I commend you for your hard work. This is great. I saw another person also mention something to this same effect. Perhaps you could have an express install that installes everything, and then a custom install where you could have the option to uncheck features that you not want installed. Thanks XPero! WoRdUp48
  12. I don't know for sure if that will work, but I do not beleive so. You can try to just install the update. I think Nero's "updates" can actually be installed by themselves. Let us know how you go! -WoRdUp48
  13. Well, I just finished installing SP2 final, and so far the small amount of programs have installed fine. However, I have not tried Nero yet, so I don't actually know if it burns CDs ok, I assume it would though. I have installed the following: AIM 5.5.3595 MS Office 2003 SP1 slipstreamed Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3 Nero 6.3.1.17 Quicktime 6.5.1 Spybot - Search and Destroy 1.3 Symantec Antivirus Corporate 9.0 Winamp 5.04 full WinRAR 3.30 Corporate If anybody has any more information on software in SP2 RTM, please post specifics here! Thanks!! -WoRdUp48
  14. Hey, I'd just like to start this topic and to see what kinda 'kinks' people have run into when installing the final version of SP2. Also, if you have any alternatives to use before a workaround is found, please post that information here too... I am installing SP2 as we speak, so I will report any problems that I run into... Thanks everyone, please contribute if you can! -WoRdUp48
  15. I'd first of all go and give dell a call. They usually are known for good customer support...they should be able to fix your problem. Then again, I'd assume you would use this option as your first choice...so maybe its not under warranty? Anyway, that still may help, Dell is usually pretty good. If you don't want to do that, a good format should do the trick....just backup your data. If you have a good backup routine, a reformat reinstall is relatively painless!
  16. honestly, i dont think you can better components at better prices if you shop at http://www.newegg.com/ I love that place, and they have fast service. I suggest you check them out before you check the big circuit city's, best buy's, etc. Just my 2 cents...
  17. Thanks XtremeMac. I have ran scans with all three adware programs (Spybot, Pestpatrol, Ad-aware) and ran virus scans with both McAfee and Norton, so I think I've pretty well done all I can. So far, so good. The 100% cpu usage only crops up every once in a while, so I'll let you know if anything happens, say, in the next week or so. I appreciate the help and advice given thus far. I've been a member here since before most of the "old guys", its been close to 3 years now (3 years in September anyway). I mostly just idle and learn from other peoples posts, and its great how people here give quick replies! Thanks again! WoRdUp48
  18. Thanks for the reply Jono. I have Ad-aware on my system already, so I updated that to the newest reference file and ran the scan, It just came up with a few cookies as it normally does, and I wiped those off. I have NAV2003 Pro on here, so I updated my virus definitions, and ran a manual scan. It came up with nothing as well. So I'm not sure what it is. If system specs would help, they are: Asus A7N8X Deluxe Mobo AMD XP 2700+ 1 GB Crucial Memory 80 GB WD 120 GB Seagate GeForce 4 Ti4200 If you need anymore info, just let me know! Thanks
  19. I've been having a problem in the last few days with my system. It slows down to a crawl for some unknown reason, and when I check the CPU usage in Task Manager, it says 100%. I'm not quite sure what is causing it. I don't think I have installed anything or done anything different lately, this problem just seemed to come on suddenly. Is there anyway I can find out what is causing all this cpu usage. Is there any sort of utility or anything that I can d/l to find out what is causing the problem? It's really bugging me. On another note, a reboot fixes the problem. And then about a day or so later, the problem starts up again. Any help regarding this matter would be much appreciated! Thanks, WoRdUp48
  20. Maybe I dont understand the issue here, but it sounds to me like you should just disable the NIC on that certain machine(s). If all you want to do is really "stop a machine from going out to the internet?", then disabling the NIC (by going into Network Connections, right-click on NIC, then selecting "Disable") is the easiest way. Hope that helps. WoRdUp48

  24. Hey there, Well, I got my network working, got 2 computers hookup up through a Linksys router. My IP doesn't give a static IP, so it changes. I tried to rip a CD using Exact Audio Copy with lame but its unable to look up the track info for me on CDDB, so thats a real pain. I think the router is blocking some ports, and I'm not sure what to do to fix it. Please help if you can! WoRdUp48
  25. ummm.....I think they have that same mobo over at www.newegg.com for less than half that price... check that site out, it has good prices and fast service. WoRdUp48
