  1. IIRC you couldn't slipstream an XP-SP in an XP-iso on another OS than windows XP. Is this still the case with Vista? Do I really have to install Vista only to be able to run the slipstream utility in vLite or not? BTW: I looked for installation requirements on vLite, but didn't find any. So if vLite is as good as nLite, then this would be my only gripe with it /EDIT: and if I want to slipstream the 64-bit edition, do I need to do it on a 64-bit machine? That would probably raise even more problems, as I do not own any 64-bit hardware myself.
  2. You're correct, but I think it is advantageous to have a fully patched IE (and thus IE 6) when you see that the majority of the windows updates are meant to patch IE vulnerabilities. Removing IE entirely is something I have done already, but there is always that little app that needs some part of IE to function correctly (and yes, I know this is completely not done for any real programmer, but still...) Zl. (FF user BTW)
  3. Very nice, BTS, can't wait! I know it's not done, but do you have an *E*TA? (accent on the E(stimated))... -> next week, next month, etc.? Zl.
  4. Yes, after finishing all nLite-processes and just before you use the option "make iso". Zl.
  5. Am I correct when I conclude out of your above posts, BTS, that your solution will be to overwrite the XP-file mraid35x.sys with the stock 2K-one? It's just that I really need to make my 2K-cd and if your answer is yes, I'll do it manually. Of course I'll report back in, so you can use my experience in your programming. If you already know of any more steps to do, please let me know and I'll do it! Zl.
  6. Just to confirm I'm having the same prob, with all driverpacks integrated (including the Massstorage one). I'm not skilled enough to have a say on this, but I do know the hardware I was planning on installing this on, did not require this driver (or any other SATA/SCSI-driver), so I'm very annoyed with the windows setup for not letting me 'skip' this error THX BTS! Zl.
  7. Titou2k, I just installed a regular win2k with SP4 integrated, I've 'hidden' windows media player, installed and configured mplayerc, directX9 and finally your TTpack 2.0.4 with the EN-addon and the customized INI. This has always worked for me in XP and 2k3, but somehow it won't work for streaming content in my browser (FF) - I get an error saying a DirectShow-filter could not be found. The files play perfectly from my Hard Disk. The plugins and components are in the right directories and I've rebooted the computer several times now. Any idea what could be the problem? THX! Zl.
  8. I just made a new cd: Win2k3 Web edition / CodeJunkie update pack 1.33 / XPize 4.2MCE / nLite 1 RC5 / all BTS packs. During the copying of the files in the beginning, I get 2 missing files: HDAudBus.inf and HDAudio.inf. Install completes perfectly nonetheless, but just wanted to tell you this... (I don't need those files, but someone else might) THX BTS, everything went smoothly! Zl.
  9. I was interested, and it seems the program is still updated, but hosted by Pyrenean. Just to let you know. I'll stick with the reg-block-list! Zl.
  10. ... added version 2.0.2.0, the ini and the EN-addon to my silent install and all went perfectly: no more file version pop-ups during installation. I also seemed to be able to view WMV and MOV direcly on the website, so no complaints whatsoever! Is it still beta because you know of certain bugs? I have not seen one on Win2k3 (with MP64 and MP8/9 removed, compatibility kept) 1 small question: does the application INI accept a relative path like "%PROGRAMFILES%/Media Player Classic/mplayerc.exe", or can I only use an absolute path? Also: I 'stumbled' across the INI and language addon, but it was not really clear I needed all those files... THX for another great release! Zl.
  11. Whoa! This looks very good! No matter how many times you tell them to use Firefox, no matter how many IE-icons you remove after a complete new installation, somehow they always manage to get IE back together with all problems that it holds... I will be using this! ++ Zl.
  12. He's more than welcome to do it, but I won't be bothering him with it. Looks like way too much work and I don't think I have the time to go look for all those localised versions myself, so I will not be taking someone else's time. I'll get my friends to start using english software, probably much easier and in the end the internet will become a better place THX for your replies! Zl.
  13. Great guide! I think I go through about the same when I get a call like this from a friend/relative, but I have 2 suggestions: 1. Always make a backup before you start fiddling with software that has (badly) infected the system you're working on - it's not funny when you get asked to rescue a PC and then f*ck it up even worse 2. manually go through (at least) the 2 software-sections of the registry and the run- and runonce-section of the current windows-entries in the registry to search for obvious threads, delete them and reboot in safe mode to delete left files and folders. The second one will of course be of less importance after using all the software you mention, but the first is to important to be left out of a guide like yours. Sticky++ Zl.
  14. I know I've read this some while ago (when this project didn't even have its own sub-forum), but I cannot seem to find it: If you install this USP 5.1 on a non-english version of Win2K, will it break stuff or will it just display some dialog boxes in both languages? Sadly, some people I know prefer windows in their native language Sure, I could try it myself in VMware, but if it were to cause (non-critical) problems that I might overlook, then I could end up in a lot of problems... And chances are really high someone else here has tested this I guess THX a lot for this magnificent project! Zl.
  15. *bump* Anyone? I tried to look it up (Search, Google), but it seems that the windows registry is something not too much can be found about... Zl.
  16. Can't you just use the SHORTCUT-command to make a new shortcut? The syntax is fairly simple and you don't have to waste space on your ua CD... Zl.
  17. Hi, My ua cd is getting along quite well, and now I'm starting to get into 'the details': Programs like 7z or notepad++ need to be registered to open 'their' files. I looked at the specified thread, but the suggested solution doesn't work for me (and since it is still a 'WIP', I think I'll try to find it myself... In the example of Notepad++, I took a snapshot of my registry, installed the app, set the filetype-associations manually and took a second snapshot with RegShot 1.7. This gives the following comparison: ---------------------------------- Keys added:10 ---------------------------------- HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Notepad++ HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\notepad++.exe HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor\Editor Name HKLM\Software\CLASSES\Notepad++_file\shell\open HKLM\Software\CLASSES\Notepad++_file\shell\open\command HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.inc HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.vb HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.mak HKLM\Software\Notepad++ ---------------------------------- Values added:17 ---------------------------------- HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\notepad++.exe\: "C:\Program Files\Notepad++\notepad++.exe" HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\View Source Editor\Editor Name\: "C:\Program Files\Notepad++\nppIExplorerShell.exe" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\Notepad++_file\shell\open\command\: ""C:\PROGRAM FILES\NOTEPAD++\NOTEPAD++.EXE" "%1"" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.inc\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.vb\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.mak\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.txt\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.ini\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.css\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.asp\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.nfo\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.php\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.log\: "Notepad++_file" HKLM\Software\CLASSES\.vbs\: "Notepad++_file" If I understand correctly, the file-associations are made in 2 steps: 1. There is a class added called 'Notepad++_file' 2. All selected file types are categorised under that class My question is: would this command do the trick? (I would test it out, but the registry is something I'm completely unfamiliar with ) @echo off cmdow @ /hid :: Register files with Notepad++ REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Notepad++_file /f REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.bsh /ve /d "Notepad++_file" /f REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\.inc /ve /d "Notepad++_file" /f ... Would it work, would it make any PC unstable or could it be used with maybe some corrections? THX! Zl.
  18. For me there are no nig problems: only my RunOnceEx-script is interrupted because I already have a newer version of wmvcore.dll installed (through WMP10 1.3 addon, although I removed WMP in this particular install). And just yesterday I encountered an MPEG which required QT to be installed. FF wouldn't open the file, but when downloaded, the MPEG plyed just fine in MPC. I do remember Quicktime and Real having had some updates in the past 5 months - maybe some updated fileversions could be used? THX very much for your codec pack!
  19. I started out with RunOnceEx, and am still using it. It is easy to grasp and once you get the hang of it, it can easily be updated to reflect version changes and stuff like that. I will be looking at WPI in a short while, just to make it possible to chose wich programs on what computer I want to install without the need for a seperate CD(RW) everytime. AutoIT is something that can be useful for some programs (like MSAS that just won't install silently without an AIT-script), but if I can avoid to use it, I will. Just my 0.02 € of course... Zl.
  20. THX for your reply, but that's actually the 'great tutorial' I'm talking about... OT: THX for your WPI and add-on-packs! Zl.
  21. @Dirtwarrior: THX! I'll try to search the net for that patch! I read somewhere on the forum one can take snapshots of the registry and look what has changed in between these snapshots -> that's probably the way to assemble a .reg-file I guess? @Nois3: THX for your reply, but I don't see how this link helps me in any way... I have read the guide, and since nLite patches uxtheme.dll for me automagically, that page is of no use to me at all (or am I overlooking something?) Zl.
  22. Hi there, just experimenting some with this great tutorial, and I cannot find a clear answer to these questions: 1. Are _all_ XP drivers usable in 2k3? I cannot find specific 2k3-drivers, so I think I would have to use XP drivers... And going 1 step further: can I use the BTS driverpacks for my ua2k3-cd? (his site only mentions WinXP, but if 2k3 uses the same driver model as XP...) 2. Since the changes made to Win2k3 (explained in the MSFN-tutorial) to make it usable as a workstation are all pretty straightforward and probably registry-related (except the adding user / installing DirectX): has anyone found out which registry entries have to be altered? If so: then these changes could be forged into 1 .reg-file that can be merged via RunOnceEx, so that the installation can be completely unattended I guess? And if no-one has done this already, could someone explain to me (briefly) how I can detect which changes to the registry are made? Maybe I can be the author of this .reg-file (that eventually could be attached to the tutorial)... THX for your time and looking forward to get some answers or links!! Zl.
  23. I know it's plenty late to answer here, but I would like to volunteer. I've been thinking of making a DB myself consisting of all the switches in the unattended forum, but it would be of much more use as an add-on to your (already great) site! Contact me via email PLZ, as I have missed already several PM's (somehow I find it easy to overlook them, although I'm a very regular visitor...). 1 suggestion: it would be fairly simple to let (registered) visitors add switches themself. And maybe a rating could be implemented for the other users to rate the switches already in the DB. That way, bad entries are (or can be) filtered out automagically. You would need only a handfull of PHP-building blocks: 1. authentication can be combined with the forum-db (registering in the forum lets you post/rate to your DB) 2. entering information (id, prog, version, switch, comment, name, IP-address, date) 3. rating information (id, rating[bad, neutral, good], comment, name, IP-address, date) 4. search information (prog) 5. edit/delete entries by admins/moderators 6. display information (last entered, highest ranked, alfabetically) Like this, a search could return multiple results, but the good ones will be used more often and probably receive more 'good points', so that the lesser or incomplete ones are discarded over time... Just my € 0.02. I'm not a PHP/MySQL-professional, but I have built a site or 2 in PHP and MySQL, and think it's fun to play around with. If only I had more time on my hands... Zl.
  24. Small question: I managed to integrate these drivers perfectly (6.67) with nLite 1.0RC1, but as I'm a big fan of the BTS driverpacks, I wanted to add these packs to my cd. I did think integrating the masstorage drivers and the chipset drivers might mess up the installation, so I chose _not_ to integrate these packs. However, when using the install cd I got an error message very quickly stating nvataraid.sys was missing. So I guess I shouldn't have integrated these packs. Is there a way to integrate the 6.67 with nLite AND using the BTS driver packs (or some of them) without breaking the install? (f.e. by manually re-adding some lines in TXTSETUP after BTS integration has finished maybe?) I hope BTS is able to tackle the problem with his (masstorage or chipset-)pack himself, because they are really priceless - my cd's however turn up worthless when I use them on an nForce4-platform THX in advance! Zl.
  25. THX for this great tutorial! I was having problems the last time I tried, but now I'm trying again to get it to work, and I'm already getting to the end of the process... I read somewhere that you cannot use the 'shared folders'-option of the VMware-windows, and that you have to use the c:-partition on the virrtual machine to avoid errors. Maybe some of the above mentioned problems can be solved this way? So: as an extra step, I copy my slipstreamed source to the VM's hard drive before using ORK or OfficeShrink. Works like a charm! THX again, BuckEyeXP and XXsplit! Zl.
