  1. While looking at the benchmark, there is not a lot of difference between 7600 and 7900 but on the long run buying another 7900 when they get cheaper will add more longetivity to it, and until then my performances will be more than enough to play all recent games with everything on FULL lol now I only have to look on nvidia's website to know if spending 60$ more for a 7900GT TOP or for a 7900GT on cipc the difference seems to be 2DHT, which is still chineese to me, if it means hyperthreading it could be worth
  2. 16xaa abd 8xaf..... that's chineese? I just want my video card to last a f***ing long time, I mean I have a geforce2 400 on my desktop who could still run most games until last year, and on my laptop a nvidia5200go which is good but Dell does not update drivers so I can't play recent games. I guess I'm gonna go for a 256mb 7900 since you know better than me lol and in the case my lcd dies sometimes, I guess I could buy a VGA to DVI adapter meanwhile. there is a 7900GT and a 7900GT TOP, while I guess TOP one is better is it worth spending 60$ more? The 7900GTX one is way off my budget though.
  3. I admit that the 2 drives in mirror are just a candy, it's because I got more than 100Gb of mp3, and still growing, and it takes a day to backup on a pack of DVD-RW, having them mirrored means no hassle thinking about needing to do backups. It's really not a necessity though but some candy that's it. For the video card, you are saying that 2x 512MB 7600GS in SLI 16x won't be better than one 256MB 7900GT? I mean... you know better than me, that's why I'm asking but I mean... how much better can faster clock and memory and more pipelines do compared to 4 times the memory size? I tried to look for some benchmark comparison but didn't find something similar to my configuration choices. Furthermore, having 2 cards give me option for 2 LCD screens (in the future), and since both cards are DVI/VGA I still can plug my old CRT screen if, say, my LCD breaks while the 7900 cards are only DVI. For the HDD I settled on going with 3 x 320GB model ST3320620AS from Seagate
  4. ncix seems a couple of bucks cheaper, but the warranty is also 1 year shorter, and I find it nice to have the possibility to go back to the store if there is a problem with the computer, not only send it in the mail and wait. The total cost difference between both stores is less than 20$ at the end. I'm not insecure about buying pieces on the web, but a full computer I would be more confortable to buy it from a real person, talking to me, whom I can shake hand with, and come back and ask for more questions later... I think I'll still buy it from CIPC
  5. the thing is there is no 512mb 7900GT availlable at this store, and the 7900GTX are too expensive ... the seagate drive model 7200.10 are all perpendicular (based on seagate's website) so my 250GB choise is too. But maybe I dont need four... in fact I wanted four because with two of them mirrored I end up with the equivalent of 3. I also wanted a separate drive for my data so if anything happens to the system disk all my data is ok. But maybe I shoud stick with the old partitions, and buy one 320GB and 2 mirrored 250GB... in fact, for the money I save pn one drive the 3 of them could be 320... I only wanted my data to be fullproof against anything affecting the system drive, but I guess I lived without distinct drives for 10 years and still managed not to lost too much data... anyone else got an opinion on this? and for ncix, I'm gonna check them out right now, but I had chose CIPC cause being in Montreal and prices in Canadian Money, it's easier for me to figure out how much it will cost, also there is no need for shipping cause I'll go and get it myself. But I see ncix offers cad pricing too so I'm definitely gonna compare pricings. oh and for the audio, it's mostly gonna be music and games, some movies, I'm not that kind of guy that will complain if he does not hear the dirt moving around when he's walking slowly in a game though. I could have kept my soundblaster live 5.1 and not see the difference but I got a big recommandation for a XtremeMusic card, and since it's at a reasonnable price (compared to the higher XFi models and lower/older creative cards).

I was wondering if seagate is a better choice than WD cause I never tried them but read a lot of positive feedbacks on them Also, can anyone point me to a what-is-how-to on SATA 2? I don't know how to plug, how to configure, in fact I now nothing about SATA2. I'd like to have one main drive for the OS and progs, another one for the data, and 2 drives in mirror to host my large mp3 collection I just don't want to loose. And of course, I'm interested in all your comments or suggestions from all of you!
  7. what exactly is h323? I don't know any of those phone apps they are talking on their web site. Why would microsoft point there to find a fix?
  8. Hi everyone Starting yesterday I got a really strange problem. Whenever I start windows media player 10, it says explorer had an error and to send the report... I looked for more info and microsoft tells me the problem is related to H323 software and provites a link to their website. Looking on that site, I realise I know nothing about this, there is some libraries file to download and to install I don't know where, related to programs I have never used or installed. Anyone experienced this and how can I fix this? Cause it be related to ffdshow (even though it's not listed on H323's website?) Thanks
  9. I'm trying to install a program (ACT!2005) that requires File and Print sharing must be enabled to install the software. The thing is that they ARE enabled, I do share files and printer on my network and I never disabled it. Now how can I make it believe it's ON even if it is actually ON. Is there a work around to force the installation without the minimum parameters required?. Thanks
  10. Since the last update of windows live messenger, I keep disconnecting and reconnecting on msn to the point where it's so annoying to people on my contact list that some have deleted me. This is intolerable and I just don't know what to do to fix this. Although posting this on some msn forum would maybe be better I just don't hang around there and I'm sure someone nice here will have some tips. Thanks
  11. search for SP2 in here and it's the 1st topic you get. Then select the french language, click change, then you get the french download page for each hotfix
  12. great thanks! it's actually the first time in all those years on xp that I had to do this, will remember!
  13. I still don't get a Date or Last Modified Column, the ones I get are Artist, album, size, duration, year and track number, which are all empty... at least there is a filetype column so I know they are all folders (this was sarcastic)
  14. Hi, I have about 100Gb of metal mp3, all in My Music\Artist - Album I'd like to temporarily sort them by Date instead of Filename but since this is a music folder I don't get the same options. How can I sort them by date (last modified) so I can listen to all the new cds I added without missing one? Must be a little workaround or something Thanks
  15. thanks for the advice, I started looking for server rental in canada or in NY region, found iWeb and Eserves that looks quite competitive.
  16. I got the SAME exact error when I tried to upgrade my ram, tons of bsod, and the sticks I can't test cause I don't have other ddr cpu. But my sdram made the same bsod afterward, removed one stick and now im stuck with less ram that I started with. I'm gonna do the same as you did, buy a new cpu, but I'm waiting in fall 2007 to get the new sockets and cpus
  17. I was investing the possible rentability of setting up a server for web hosting for my business and also for my actuel partners and friends, I haven't check about what type of line speed is available in my area and the costs but on the hardware part: can I use the same receipe as well linked and explained above? I also heard that renting space on bigger servers and then rent small parts of that space back could be an option, any advice?
  18. yeah! that's what I thought, thanks ripken geek 1 boss 0
  19. can I have more arguments concerning mirror option as a good way of backup, cause I have to justify the costs of 2 disks and my boss thinks it's useless, while I feel it would be pretty stupid to invent a system like this if it was not for backup purposes... but you guys seem to know best than us two imo samsung hitashi all that sounds strange and untrustworthy. i work in electronic and samsung often breaks so if their computer parts are like that... i had an WD and never got a problem, same with my maxtor, never tried seagate but they all seem of equal quality. the cooling factor you mentionned is really a good point to watch though, never paid attention to that before.
  20. I want to buy a new computer and install hard drives on it. So I think here is a good place for my question without starting a new topic. Can sata2 drives be plugged in raid mirror? if yes, is this an efficient backup solution? the drive will be used for data only. I would take 2x 250GB 16mb WD drive, and i was thinking of getting a small 36gb raptor 10k as system drive
  21. I think that after more than 4 years I'm simply dued for a new pc, without a cheap mobo this time
  22. sometimes i don't even understand computers. after not working with ddr, even if I flashed the bios. after doing bluescreens when I put back my sdram after not working anymore after having only one out of 2 sdram sticks that work after installing the one that does not work on another computer, and it actually works after taking an old 64mb to fill the empty slot in my computer... I'm stuck with a working but crippled 320MB of sdram.... wasn't I suppose to upgrade?
  23. twice the speed? isn't it what Double Data Rate is all about? for my part, i think my board is screwd. it's not even working with both my sdram sticks in now... so I guess it's time for a new pc.
  24. I resintalled my logitech webcam drivers... still happened when winamp was launched. uninstalled winamp 5.2 and reinstalled winamp 5.13 IT WORKS! So it's really winamp 5.2 causing a driver probrem with something related to LVUMSFD.sys
