  1. I guess you must be talking about capturing the install.wim, if you wish to capture the install.wim you need to boot your system in winPE with either imageX or GimageX and then capture your install.wim. This is how you can make your winPE: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc749311(WS.10).aspx
  2. If you are talking about component removal I still like vlite, it is fast and easy to use. RT7lite is also good but it still have too many bugs. And Toolkit has very less components in the list to remove. But if you can get vlite work on sp1 I think you should go with vlite.
  3. I have also experienced this issue and I learned that don't mess with setup.exes (DVD root and Sources folder).
  4. Hi guys, I have a Windows 7 ultimate x86/x64 DVD which I have made by reverse integration. I wanted to make it lite with vlite, I have removed some components and disabled few services as well but when I installed that OS my Windows Firewall is not starting, I have tried each and everything but nothing seems to be working for me. I even tried to follow this article from MS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943996, but when I tried to change the permission of Parameters in DPS (the last one) I got "Access Denied" error. Please help me understand this problem and how can I solve this problem. My last session.ini is attached herewith. Edit: I have tried my install.wim in vmware and there is no such problem in my install.wim, I guess this problem is b'coz of some malware or some registry settings, please help me guys. Last Session.ini
  5. At this time I think not software can do that, but W7T can do an Autounattend.xml! v1.3.0.30 can do that when it's released, just select "AnyCPU" in the list Thanks mate I will try your tool, though I have never tried your tool but now it sounds interesting to me. I would like to have more components for removal. I like my OS to be lite and fast.
  6. I usually remove the languages and other components with vlite and then reduce the size of my wim with gimagex (Export Tab). It can be easily done and that too within mins. In most of the cases you can reduce your wim size by 10%.
  7. I knew you would definitely help me, primarily I was about to address this thread to you, but then I decided otherwise. Thanks once again for helping me. Though I have already rectified the problem with Tuneup Utilities but now atleast I know what was causing that problem.
  8. Hi guys, I have merged one registry file which I got from a friend of mine, I have edited that registry (only removed some entries) and now I am getting this problem, the registry file which I have merged is attached. Please tell which specific registry is causing these black square at the place of shortcut arrows. Though these shortcut arrow problem can be rectified with tuneup utilities' "Link arrows are not displayed" I remember the registry has removed the shortcut arrows, but when I syspreped my OS and then captured my image I got these black squares in place of shortcut arrows. I have faced similar problem in other OS as well and I am sure that was also because of this registry file. Please help me find that particular registry which is causing this problem. I have already searched but unable to ascertain which one is causing this problem. My friend\'s registry.reg
  9. Then you must have installed too many drivers.
  10. I guess the sp1 backup files are still in the wim. Mine is 3.64GB but mine is multiboot (x86 and x64)
  11. Well compression is not an issue for me anymore, I have captured my wim again and with max compression this time. I have also tried your method to clean sp1 backup file, and there were no backup files in my wim. I have actually cleaned my wim before capturing with tuneup utilities, and it did take hell lot of time to clean but I guess it did clean the wim properly.
  12. Great job mate, I love WAIK for Vista, its really fast so I don't want to install WAIK for 7. I would try your method and let you know. Thanks for your help mate.
  13. You are right, first I use dism command and then tried to compress my wim with gimagex, so you mean to say, dism command must have corrupted my wim? Edit: Yes I know that mate, I capture my install.wim with fast compression so only I was trying to compress my install.wim, its was not already compressed.
  14. Yes mate I know, I have kept the gimagex in amd64 folder only. I have been using gimagex from last 20 months or so. But you didn't address the error which I got during the compression.
  15. Not really mate, I don't use imagex, I was trying to compress the wim with gimagex. I have successfully compressed my wim with gimagex in the past as well, but this time I got that error. And I always use WAIK for Vista only, and worked well for almost all the times, though this is the first time I tried dism.
  16. You must be talking about the dism command, ok I agreed. But as far as compressing the wim is concerned I have successfully compressed the wim in the past, why I am getting this error this time?
  17. I tried to run this command to cleanup sp1 files from my install.wim but I am getting this error: I am on windows 7 ultimate x64 and WAIK for vista, I also tried to export my wim with max compression this is what I am getting And most importantly I get new .tmp file everytime I tried to compress my wim
  18. Ok so you don't want to install your OS on actual machine rather want to use VHD or Virtual Machine? Ok I am trying to explain it to you in short, see first of all you need to install your OS in the virtual machine and then install the applications and do all your customization once you are finished sysprep your OS with audit mode and reboot option, now delete the user account you have created during the installation (if you have created); if not, then use generalize option with shut down. Once your VM OS shuts down use this application to convert VM files to VHD; https://rapidshare.com/files/460416791/Vmdk2Vhd-1.0.13.rar after converting it to VHD, attach this VHD and then use imagex or Gimagex to capture your Install.wim. Its all done mate, not just replace your old Install.wim with this one. Enjoy......
  19. I wonder how can I change the icon in the shortcut which are in the "TaskBar" folder, and even if I change the icon in the "TaskBar" folder will it work after installation as well.
  20. This is not exactly what I was searching for. The one you have posted is for already installed OS what I am searching for is for preinstall environment. And if I remember properly some third party software is required in the method which I have seen on this forum.
  21. Hi guys, I want to change the Windows Explorer icon on the task bar but don't want to edit the explorer.exe, as it might create problem. I have experienced that explorer.exe starts crashing if edited. I know we can change the start orb using Theme resource Changer but it can't help me change windows explorer icon. I have seen in some thread that there is a alternate method of changing that icon but now I am not getting that thread. I have already spent 3 hrs or so searching that thread. As far as I remember some senior member has posted that method on this very forum. Please help me guys.
  22. Yeah, atleast we have some news right from the horse's mouth regarding new version of RT7Lite.
  23. That is because your install.wim is corrupted. As I told that you need to capture your wim once again. Can you provide your wim info?
  24. D: is your dvd drive of VMware. I guess you have some problem in your install.wim. You better capture your wim once again.
