I installed Lonhorn build 4074 in VMware 4.5.2 build 8848. It took me about 45 minutes to do the installation, but in the end all works fine. It is true that it takes 5 minutes to boot and start Win. It crashes a lot, but this is normal since this new Win version it's only at the begining. So in conclusion VMWare DOES SUPPORT Win Longhorn Quote from Vmware Guest Operating System Guide:

@mcardlej: You mentioned that you have both Matlab and LaTeX installed. How do you what causes the error ? It might be either Matlab or LaTeX. You also didn't mentioned the version of the programmes you use.Anyway have you tried to install the latest versions of the software ?Matlab reached version 7 (release 14) which was shipped 1 or 2 months ago. It may have resolved compatibility issues with SP2.

The reason why the Final SP is so small is because many debug tools and debug flags within the source code will be taken out from the final build.

Another question: I heard that when installing SP on a WinXP-Sp1 with all hotfixes up-to-date, all the pre-SP2 hotfixes will be removed prior to the SP2 installation. Is this true ???

Question: How many of you will install SP2 imediatelly after its release regarding the fact that a lot of compatibility problems have been issued ? As far as I'm concerned first I will try SP in a virtual machine, secondly I will install it on my current XP installation and finally I will slipstream it and do a FORMAT c:\ FULL install of the new Win XP

Technical stuff It seem that Windows Update V5 is out. This is one of the SP2 new feature. But u can take advantage of this new WU by simply pointing your IE to WU site and then in the address bar just replace http://v4.windowsupdate ............... 4 with 5. It should look like http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us That's all folks.

Millions of persons are waiting for "THE SP" .... But just think a little, let's say that only a quarter of those will download it in the first hours after release the MS servers will be down in just a few minutes So we'll have to wait for servers to be online again Anyway it would be interesting to see statistics on how many people will download the SP in the first hours, how many persons are downloading in the same time ....
