  1. If this is the problem, how do I fix it, if it's fixable? There are a few files and folders including an adobe file.
  2. Is this the right info? Log Name: Application Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP Date: 12/3/2012 11:49:32 AM Event ID: 16385 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Mark-Z77 Description: Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2112-11-09T19:49:32Z. 3. I think I installed with a trial version or RTM version. not sure, then entered the upgrade key. I had to call MS to get it to activate. I also installed MCE. -=Mark=-
  4. I keep getting this error on my system every 30 seconds or so. It sometimes dings everytime it hapens, but usually it's random when it happens. My system seems to run fine, it just reports this error constantly. Any have any ideas? -=Mark=-
  5. I can't seem to find anyone carrying Philips monitors. Searching there site I found another one with better power rates (23.4 watts). http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/cpindex.pl?ctn=241P4QPYEB/27&hlt=Link_ProductInformation&mid=Link_ProductInformation&scy=US&slg=AEN I found one at Amazon for the one above for like $400+ and 1-3 week delivery from some other outfit. They must not be readily available to the public. I'm just worried they are similar to the new Samsung monitors that have a new panel type. I forget the name and lost my links on a windows reinstall, but it got a lot of bad reviews. Probably just a new technology and needs quirks wrinkled out. -=Mark=-
  6. I like that monitor. I like the sensor that knows when you walk away and dims the screen a little. The price is a little high, but I like that it uses the VA panel which are a lot better than TN displays. I definitely have it bookmarked, but I may not be able to afford anything for myself until after the holidays. Thanks -=Mark=- ps, I put my monitor on a kill-a-watt meter by itself and see it actually pulls 81-82 watts. It drops to 74-76 when playing full-screen videos. Kind of strange as you'd think it would put a greater load on the screen switching colors constantly rather than one constant image.
  7. Well, I searched low powered monitors and got this review at cnet: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57467022-1/top-5-lowest-power-consuming-ips-monitors/ but it's for ips monitors and it claims the Dell U2412m 1080p uses 27.5 watts. cnet review of U2412m Dell says otherwise: Not sure how they come up with such a wide range power draw. I checked mine at idle and then ran a video in full screen (1440p) and power draw went down 4 watts? go figure. I may settle for a TN panel if I can get lower power draw, but all of my searches seem to come up IPS only. Thanks for your replies guys. -=Mark=-
  8. I need a monitor upgrade for my budget computer. I have a small computer room and it heats up real quick and after upgrading my system to low powed parts it still gets warm quickly. My monitor is a 27" led IPS monitor and uses 67watts and is very warm and I think this is where my heat is coming from now. I would like a low powered monitor preferably 24" or greater and 1080P or better. Thanks for any help -=Mark=-
  9. Have you tried running it in plain IDE mode? I have an SSD sata 3 in my nephews system and it runs just fine after a year. no issues other than running at sata II speeds. The difference between sata II and sata III is negligible compared to HDD to SSD. Most all SSDs have a garbage collection mode to self TRIM themselves. Luck -=Mark=-
  10. Sorry, I forgot to update. I have solved the issue with a bootable CD to blank or change the password. I first tried changing, but it didn't work as the instruction said sometimes doesn't work. Then I tried to just blanking password and voilla! it let me back on. I then went to users account in control panel and removed the password completely. Offline Windows Password & Registry Editor, Bootdisk / CD http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ Thanks for everyone's help -=Mark=-
  11. OK, It's working on my other machine. Not sure what the issue is with this machine. I have had issues with network connections in the past. For some unknown reason I had to install Xfast for it to work properly. The only thing I can think of is this ASRock board uses ASMedia chips and it interfaces with the Realtek NIC somehow and messes it up. Thanks for your help -=Mark=-
  12. No, I didn't do ALL steps as there were many non-related tasks. But I went through the basics which I was doing all along. It isn't that complicated. But I found nothing on not getting mouse control. I get connected to the other computer and I get taken to the desktop fine. I just can't get control of the mouse. I have googled a dozen or two acrticles on this and none had a solution. I even tried port forwarding with no luck. I have a new gigabit router, Asus RT-N56U, and it has it's own nomenclature so it's a bit challenging to decipher all the settings. A Firmware update helped and I found port forward. but may need something else? I forwarded port 3389, as stated in the article, to my other machine requesting help. I couldn't seem to add one for this machine as it only wanted one entry for that port I'm guessing. I haven't found the port that just opens 3389 to all machines. so both machines will have access to 3389. Maybe I'll try my other mach. Maybe this machine is whacked? -=Mark=-
  13. sorry, none of those said anything about my issue. Did you have a certain pertaining to this issue. or just general help? -=Mark=-
  14. I am having difficulties getting mouse control with remote assistant. All I can do is see the other person's desktop. Allow this computer to be controlled remotely is enabled. I tested here on my htpc with same issue. I thought maybe it was win 7 home and installed pro on spare hdd with same results. Has this feature been removed by MS? or am I doing something wrong? the computer has no option for taking over with mouse controls in the remote assistant menus. -=Mark=-
  15. Sure . The idea was (still is) that you save the event logs (if needed) then you delete them, then you cycle the machine looking for any new event, this way it is easier. Clearing the event logs is part (at least here) of "normal maintenance" of the system. On a windows 7 machine there are more logs than you would ever want , so often a batch is used: http://forums.cnet.com/7723-19411_102-378338/delete-all-event-logs-at-once-in-windows-7/ http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/25480-event-viewer-one-click-clear.html jaclaz Thanks, I found many batch files to do it, but noticed the viewer had a clear log on right side of screen once I had a log selected. It took 10 mniutes to go through all the folders and still nothing in log. I cleared them thinking it was buried, but apparently there is no record of a sleep happening. It acts like it's going to sleep, but comes on instantly without seeming to try and sleep. It's like it was aborting before hand. anyways, google gave me a hit on it may be the +5vsb usb jumper on the motherboard. I set it and VIOLA! sleep works fine. Thanks for everyone's help -=Mark=-
  16. That seemed to do the trick. This board has an AUTO setting, so I thought I'd try enabled, as disabled has kept me out of the BIOS before. So, I enabled it and it works on the fresh install, but the old boot drive still throws a fit. I guess I'll try to make sense of all the events from the past three years or so. Is there a way to clear the events? There are thousands of events. -=Mark=-
  17. lol, event viewer said: Wake Source: Device - USB Hub I only have a usb keyboard and mouse and wake by both keyboard and mouse are disabled. I even unplugged the on-board USB headers and still doesn't stay asleep. Next, I dig through closet and find a PS/2 keyboard and unplug usb keyboard and mouse, plug in PS/2 keyboard, boot, sleep, and VOILA! it stays asleep. I can only wake from power button, but I disabled all wake features, so that is fine. now, what else can force system awake? I disabled wake on both keyboard and mouse. What else could it be? I even tried a wireless kbd/mouse combo that only uses one USB port and still wakes. This is on a freshly installed windows never connected to internet in case something unwanted get installed. -=Mark=-
  18. My computer wont let me log in anymore. After I enter my password it starts to boot, but as it finishes the welcome screen, it kicks me back to the log in screen. What's happening? How do I fix this? -=Mark=-
  19. I'm having an issue with my friends system staying asleep. I select sleep from main menu and the screen goes blank and a few seconds later I hear the fans start to whirl down and then they speed up instantly and I'm back at my desktop. The power never even goes off, it just acts likes it's going to shut down then comes back on. He has windows 7 HP x64 installed. (I reinstalled from scratch with same issues). his system consists of an Asus P5Q SE PLUS (P45 chipset), 4GB Kingston HyperX 1066 RAM, Intel C2D Pentium E5200, Echo Star EC-P680D 680w PSU, HD 4350 Fanless, Kingston 64GB SSD (SV100S264G), and a pair of 250GB drives for DATA and Backup purposes. I checked that WoL was disabled in BIOS and driver. All wake features in BIOS are disabled. I enable S3 from AUTO setting. I installed latest Intel chipset drivers. I updated LAN drivers Any Idea whats forcing this awake? -=Mark=-
  20. I played around a little more and I was looking at a certain uploaders videos I play a lot and noticed a few of his won't play anymore either, but most of them do play fine. I think it must be something at youtube's end. maybe it is a blocked video, although it plays with flash player in my linux vm. This is really strange that some are getting blocked and not others, and blocked ones play fine if flash is installed. I even setup a fresh install of win 7 in a vm and have the same problems. I even tested before windows updates and after with no changes at all. Maybe youtube is switching all of their videos back to flash only? lol @Coffeefiend you have to be the luckiest person on the planet. especially with kids that don't get infected. My uncle and his four kids and can't keep it clean for a week. It's so bad he doesn't call anymore unless the machine is unusable. He just lets it run slow and never turns it off or it takes ten-plus minutes to start back up. lol @Tripredacus I had so much malware jump from one browser to the other that I just use VMs and reinstall the VM if it gets too bad. I learned to make a template to ease the reinstall process. But I have 5 machines and just usally dual boot if I need to. I even made a hackintosh drive for OSX 10.6.8. Haven't tried Lion yet as it looks too tablet oriented still. Same with Windows 8 Beta. It just has a phone feel to it and don't like it on the desktop. Thanks for the input. I guess I just live with it the way it is and just skip flash stuff or find a same one in non-flash format. -=Mark=-. -=Mark=-
  21. I use Firefox, the latest up to date edition. 10.0.2 I also fired up ie9 and even used the update links from the FAQ and still no go. I multi-boot and have have 3 machines and all refuse most youtube videos. It's been working fine util recently. nothing has changed but a few updates and an upgrade from a hd5670 to a 6670 (I gave my 5670 to my sister) Can't argue with luck I guess. I get them every so often. mostly just adware. But since removing flash It has decreased significantly. My friends/family get them religiously. but since they have abandoned flash, things are a little smoother. They got used to it after Apple banned flash player on the iPad cause of all the malicious programs. even after the hundred or so updates Adobe applied to flash, Apple still bans it. What kind of security do you use to avoid such infections. I've been working on computers for years and haven't found a way to avoid them. I have reduced them significantly by practicing safe surfing, but only on my main rig. my others I am not so cautious and get them every few months or so and minors adware ones almost daily. Not sure what else to try? I just ran driversweeper/ccleaner and cleaned the video drivers and reinstalled again to be safe, but still nothing? my two best reductions are through no adobe and adblock plus so there are no ads at all on the screen to click on by mistake to cause infection. Thanks for the help -=Mark=-
  22. I can't watch youtube videos anymore. I get my usual message about not having adobe flash player installed for a quick second or two, but now it gives me an error message about not having supported player. I've been watching videos just fine for a very long time without flash player installed. I gave up on it after getting so many viruses (sp). The message says, "Your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available. Click here to visit our FAQ about HTML5 video" when I go to the FAQ I get this: YouTube HTML5 Video Player You are in a trial for HTML5 video on YouTube. Some users of supported browsers are automatically entered in to the trial. If you wish to leave the trial, use the link at the bottom. HTML5 is a new browser technology that allows us to show videos without the Flash plugin. Your comments will help us improve and perfect the mixtures we're working on. So jump in, play around, and send your feedback directly to the brains behind the scenes. Supported Browsers We support browsers that support both the video tag in HTML5 and either the h.264 video codec or the WebM format (with VP8 codec). These include: Firefox 4 (WebM, Available here) Google Chrome (WebM) Opera 10.6+ (WebM, Available here) Apple Safari (h.264, version 4+) Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 (h.264, Available here, WebM support avaliable here) Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7, or 8 with Google Chrome Frame installed (Get Google Chrome Frame) Notes Fullscreen support is partially implemented. Pressing the fullscreen button will expand the player to fill your browser. If your browser supports a fullscreen option, you can then use that to truly fill the screen If you want to find videos with WebM formats available, you can use the Advanced Search options to look for them (or just add &webm=1 to any search URL) Additional Restrictions (we are working on these!) Videos with ads are not supported (they will play in the Flash player) On Firefox and Opera, only videos with WebM transcodes will play in HTML5 If you've opted in to other testtube experiments, you may not get the HTML5 player (Feather is supported, though) What does my browser support? Alert icon Video tag Alert icon h.264 Alert icon WebM Alert icon You are currently in the HTML5 trial. It says I don't have h.264 support only. I downloaded the latest drivers for my HD 6670 and still get the message. any clues what happened in the last few days (new video card was last few days and a newer one to arrive tomorrow (HD 7750). -=Mark=-
  23. I took the adapter and plugged it into my wired PC and it still wasn't working. I reset the router with the reset button this time and all is well. Must have had a glitch in the router blocking the one PC. Thanks for the help -=Mark=-
  24. I have lost my internet and when I go to connect wirelessly, my router doesn't show up, but my neighbors' routers show up. I decided to put in my spare USB wireless adapter and same issue. It doesn't show my router. All three of my other computers find it just find and both of my internet weather stations find it. I went looking through network settings and couldn't seem to find anything blocking my router. I found the saved internet connections page and cleared all of the entries out. Not sure where to find such an option. Any clues, comments, ideas? -=Math=--
  25. That did the trick. Thank you very much. -=Mark=-
