  1. Please don't take this as an offence, it is not meant to , but I really cannot make head or tail of your reports. It seems like you tried everything all together, mixing up things from various sources, introducing a number of variations to different otherwise known-to-be-working methods. Dietmar's thread on 911CD is where it has always been: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=14181 The various versions of his Tutorial are linked to in his signature. Version 3 and 5 are also pre-packaged on his site: http://www.winusb.de/download_en.html 1) About the ngine.de guide, I have seen reports of failure in copying and pasting the configuration files, just in case see here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...19963&st=23 2) I simply cannot understand what you did and what you wanted to do. About Server 2003 SP1 files, trditionally three files are used: SETUPLDR.BIN NTDETECT.COM RAMDISK.SY_/RAMDISK.SYS But further research has shown that: SETUPLDR.BIN is NEEDED NTDETECT.COM can be substituted with any XP/2003 one RAMDISK.SY_/RAMDISK.SYS can be substituted by SOME other XP versions. All in all, and to be on the safe side use SETUPLDR.BIN and RAMDISK.SY_/RAMDISK.SYS from Server 2003 SP1 or R2, NOT from SP2. 3) I simply cannot understand what you did and what you wanted to do. Of course the modifications to txtsetup.sif are sufficient. 4) This simply makes NO sense whatsoever. DOS cannot access NTFS, it is possible to add NTFS capabilities to DOS, through the NTFS4DOS package from Avira, but it would represent yet another variable that could cause problems. Read here about the "old" method to install via DOS and WINNT.EXE: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=16713 I have the feeling that a probably working method you should look into is this one: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=121446 (using a booted PE to install the XP) Ideally, you should try explaining in detail, but without being verbose, what you are trying to achieve, and we'll try to suggest you a hopefully working method. Try using as reference the "common sense advice" you can find here: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?act=boardrules jaclaz
  2. Could you expand on your requirements? I am not sure to have understood what you need to do. A virtual hard disk image can be mounted outside the Virtual Machine (but usually NOT when the VM is running and viceversa). Instead of VMplayer (which .vmdk hard disk images can be mounted through VDK.EXE by Ken Kato or with the VMmount utilities by VMware) you may want to try using Qemu, which is a bit slower than VMware, but uses RAW disk images, i.e. byte-by-byte copies of an actual hard disk, that can be mounted with a number of Virtual Disk drivers. Particularly, I seem to remember that an image mounted with IMDISK can be booted with Qemu 0.9.x in a kind of "non-persistent mode", I could see if I can reproduce the setup if this is what you need. jaclaz
  3. Check connections, power and GROUND. Do loopback tests on your adapters, read here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry867354 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry854447 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...mp;#entry834315 jaclaz
  4. Completely OT , but since this thread is more about fears and angryness about missing support for not-prime-time OS's, just for the record and to vent a bit , I am seriously thinking about "leaving for good" AVG, which has otherways served me well in the last few years because their "geniuses" decided to drop compatibility alltogether with NT 4.00 and also for Windows 2000 unless it is updated to SP4 AND to the post-SP4 Update Rollpack. Besides the above, the new version is a real resource hog. This "smart" Commercial strategy which was NOT properly announced in advance, has left a couple of NT 4.00 machines of mine potentially unprotected for several days, until I acknowledged the fact that the running Antivirus wouldn't get anymore updates from the grisoft Server, and I had to quickly change antivirus. I still have two laptops that are runnning Win2K SP3 as something in SP4 caused problems that I will have to either take days to troubleshoot the issue with SP4 or change Antivirus on them as well. @frogman It is just like Vitalstatistix: http://www.asterix-international.de/asterix/characters.shtml I don't think the sky will fall on our heads. And hopefully "tomorrow" 7-zip will support .zipx AND remain Win98 compatible. jaclaz
  5. Well,it has been posted here also: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=105980 http://www.msfn.org/board/slipstream-SP3-i...p2-t112325.html though reports are controversial... There is (maybe was) a report which I can only find through Google cache: http://209.85.135.132/search?q=cache:DNIt2...pidgen.dll+msfn where some other files are mentioned. Maybe DPCDLL.DL_ ? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=128930 jaclaz
  6. I am not trying to make any point. You made a question (pretty much conjectural BTW and IMHO ): I am completely missing the connection between the fact that adding support for .zipx may cause the end of current supported OS by the app, and expressed my perplexity, no more, no less. The only known fact is that Igor Pavlov is aware of the problem and that he may add support to the .zipx format, as per given links, I guess that if and when this will happen, then we will see if support to Windows 98 will be kept. As said, my personal advice if you are interested in such features, would be to post on the 7-zip Forum saying so. jaclaz
  7. NOT OK, , now besides the re-login, the "Initializing attachments" has resumed it's NOT working status with Opera. jaclaz
  8. I don't see why it shouldn't. Currently 7-zip: http://www.7-zip.org/ jaclaz
[*]G_Title Attendere prego ... [*]G_WaitMessage Riavvio del computer in corso ... 10. Read here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...8807&st=384 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...807&st=1194 jaclaz
  11. Things appear to be in the works : http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7488010 http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7498208 http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7488138 http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7488238 I guess one should give Igor Pavlov some time, the specs are public: http://www.winzip.com/comp_info.htm You may want to issue on the said Sourceforge thread a request, so that the importance of adding the format to 7-zip is notified to to Igor. jaclaz
  12. Drive order. First Disk (the internal one the BIOS booted from) is normally rdisk(0) First partition on First disk (usually the booting one) is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\xxxx If you have a single hard disk, the second one will be the USB stick, thus rdisk(1). First partition on Second disk is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\xxxx If you have two internal hard disks, the USB will become third, thus rdisk(2). First partition on Third disk is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\xxxx Be aware that on PC's where those internal USB adapters for memory cards are installed, the above may not be true, and the drive number may be shifted. You can use the dd version by John Newbigin: http://www.chrysocome.net/dd Together with this small batch: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8219 In this sample output: The USB external (Removable) stick is bolded italic and is multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(6)partition(1)\xxxx as the drives are "shifted" by the 4 devices of the adapter. jaclaz
  13. Doesn't 7-zip work? http://www.7-zip.org/ jaclaz
  14. As always a bit off-topic, (but not much ) the re-login problem still appears, though seemingly in a non reproducible manner, most probably because the Admins are working on it while online , the good news is that now Opera - that some time ago had problems with "Initializing attachments" - has resumed working properly with them. jaclaz
  15. More or less it should mean that the contacts AFTER REMOVING the cardboard are NOT making contact properly. The suggested solution is to press slightly the board with a finger (obviously through some insulating material or with a rubber glove/finger protection) in the area above the contacts to make them "touch" and re-issue the F3 2>U command. If you have VERY steady hand you can very carefully untighten a bit the surrounding screws and re-tighten them. A good idea would be, before trying this, and with no power connected, to disassemble again the board and to thoroughfully clean the contacts with a specific contact cleaner on both board and drive and use a thinner cardboard/plastic insulator. (if using a plastic card be VERY careful about statics) jaclaz
  16. 96? Here is the technical data: http://www.printerworks.com/DataSheets/Pho...artP1100xi.html It should be a "native" 600x600 going up to 2400x1200 HP Color layeriing technology or PhotoRet explained: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...ocname=bpu02182 A few links that you may find interesting: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm http://www.dpiphoto.eu/dpi.htm http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/mythdpi.html Actuyally the whole site is interesting: http://www.rideau-info.com/photos/index.html http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/intermediat..._resolution.htm jaclaz
  17. Hmm, would this mean that three years ago you were outdated since seven years? http://www.msfn.org/board/Registry-Cleaner...son-t68677.html And one year ago since nine! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=111078 jaclaz
  18. Interesting report. Happy you managed to find the solution to this problem. jaclaz
  19. There is an UNOFFICIAL italian translation of the guide here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=129366&hl= Images and a "full" guide with images is here: http://www.mapleleafmountain.com/seagatebrick.html Just read this post or the post just above yours. jaclaz
  20. Here: http://www.mapleleafmountain.com/seagatebrick.html Fully "illustrated" guide. jaclaz
  21. From what you report I may only guess: that the MSI Wind needs a proprietary driver for Mass Storage Devices (does it have a SATA disk?) that you haven't integrated in the Source the appropriate Masss Storage Device Driver The BTS is a pre-packaged set of drivers that cover most hardware: http://driverpacks.net/ it's up to you to: find out whether it includes the appropriate driver for your hardware decide whether using it (thus adding support to a vast amount of hardware but "fattening" the install source or if you just want to "plainly integrate" just the needed driver On the other hand, you may try to follow this "specific MSI WIND" step by step tutorial (for the part regarding preparing the source): http://forums.msiwind.net/windows/how-onec...post-t1337.html and later either use the "other" method: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=111406 (illustrated in the tutorial) or use this WinsetupFromUSB with GUI jaclaz
  22. @amigafan See if this works for you: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/2227/get-th...u-in-windows-7/ http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-deskto...start-menu.html @all May I suggest that the scope of this topic is to help the OP to solve a problem (as opposed to commenting how the problem is a not-existing one or that suggesting he is doing a wrong thing)? We already have/had a similar topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=127177 jaclaz
  23. Just to post a pretty picture: "borrowed" by this site: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20061103/...browser-review/ And, though probably a bit OT (but not much, as always ) the Google Chrome Comic: http://blogoscoped.com/google-chrome/ jaclaz
  24. No, I mean disabled, i.e. with a START value in Registry of 4. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158995/en-us jaclaz
  25. Most probably the "reversed" dummydisk.sys remained as a leftover. On next occasion, check whether rdummy.sys is installed. Or did you NOT re-boot? It should get disabled at the first re-boot after install has finished: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...1384&st=421 jaclaz
