  1. Yep that would be a perfect example of a "Kansas city shuffle": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City_Shuffle http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425210/quotes?qt=qt0441407 Just think about it: If you think about it everyone is criticizing the Metro interface and only it, or, if you prefer, all attention is on this particular botched interface and very few people are looking for (or actually finding) anything else "wrong" (which does not mean that there must be something wrong, nor that everything is perfect exception made for Metro ) jaclaz
  2. I would like better a "conspiracy theory" What if everything till now is a bluff? Let's imagine that the good MS guys could not find a suitable way to to remove some bloat form the "core" and have an "external" classic menu app. What would have been a clever move? Make independent peeps so angry at it that someone would brainstorm until he/she finds a solution. Then buy either the program or hire the programmer (in this case the good Ivo Beltchev ) and have something working with relatively little effort. After all - more or less - is it not what they did with Mark Russinovich? I mean, had they made logical and documented implementations in the NT OS's, and produced directly the useful tools that Winternals/Sysinternals made over the years, how many chances were there that someone like Mark could have matured into a better expert on MS thingies than MS itself? jaclaz
  3. Yep, sorry , typo , I meant 0C, you cannot have 06 or 0E, unless you make smaller partitions. jaclaz
  4. If I get it right, you have only 128 Mb of RAM? If this is the case, I am afraid that both the WinPE 2.x and 3.x are usually too big for that (still provided that you have the corresponding Vista or 7 Sources) and even a PE 1.x has to be very limited. If I were you I would try the NaughtyPE project first: http://reboot.pro/3866/ or the most minimal LiveXP you can find among Amalux's "frozen builds": http://reboot.pro/4111/ jaclaz
  5. Yes , it could well be a BartPE build, that was the point. jaclaz

Sometimes I wonder WHY one would do that. Are you meaning these: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/79/ or the "generic" blue of setup booting? Do you mean in properties, above the OEM info. like: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/77/ I am not sure to get what do you mean by "5kb bmp". The standard XP boot image is described here: http://reboot.pro/360/ http://reboot.pro/339/page__p__2600 it is: (see also the link in answer to your question #1) Just for the record, a good three quarters of the OP can be got from my quotes of it, it started with: and the link originally posted was this one: http://www.facebook.com/OSHope jaclaz
  7. Can I dare to ask on what basis from the information posted you managed to "venture" into stating that it is made through using Winbuilder and namely the LiveXP project? jaclaz

Actually I am not wanting you to stop the *whatever* you are up to. Not at all. I am trying to have you start writing senseful sentences (possibly in the English language). This way possibly someone will be able to understand what you are talking about. jaclaz
  9. You CANNOT. You see, if you knew how to do that you would also know how to build your PE and you wouldn't "resort" to anything. It is interesting how the meaning of a word can be interpreted differently. I read "from a torrent to be specific" exactly as "from somewhere to be generalistic". Yep, this happens to lot's of people. When this happens they tend to resort to asking for help in learning how to avoid screwing up (badly or slightly) their PE builds, INSTEAD. Nothing bad about torrents, about UNredistributable contents, redistributed through torrents (WAREZ), plenty. My educated guess is that some of the Admins/Mods have a different take from you on the subject of legality of such PE's, but more than that, independently from it being legal or not, I believe that is NOT allowed on this board, see Rules #1.a and #1.b: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules jaclaz

EXACTLY. How queer that fans admire the origin of their fanatism. From the given link: The use of a teen aged student as a replacement for an umbrella or a roof or shed is IMHO VERY peculiar . I would guess that teenagers' unions will make a lot of fuss about this... I don't think that it is allowed to use "pretty designed" in the same sentence with "alike Windows 7". I presume that WHEN the WHATEVER will actually exist, let's say at the end of the month, it will be STILL known as "OS HOPE", or there are plans to rename it? The bad news are that from the very little that can be understood of the thingy, it is likely that it will represent WAREZ and will cost you a ban. jaclaz
  11. Definitely, and worse than that normally they are not even consequent with their naming, meaning that the SAME (often misnamed) thing is often called with different names. The "XPRESS" or "Fast Compression" of WIM's is documented (with some wrong algorithms) as "Win2k3" which is of course very logical in their perverted minds, since the .wim format has NOT been used in conjunction with Windows Server 2003: http://reboot.pro/5308/#entry41499 What I consider a "little pearl" is in this article: http://windowssecrets.com/top-story/where-we-stand-and-are-going-with-windows-8/ jaclaz
  12. And that is (the fact that you asked about it) the reason why you were ansered: "NO, there aren't, but there is a project that does represent a good "base", OR you need anyway to choose ONE "shrink tools (list given) - vlite is not intended for Windows 7 use - and start again from there." My personal advice is (if the VHD approach does not suit you) to get this one: and experiment with it. Then start searching for presets available, for the specific tool, example: http://www.rt7lite.com/rt-se7en-lite-forum/4-features-removal-support/441-removal-preset-files.html From experience, and from the rather foggy view I have in my crystal ball , this search will resolve in a wild goose chase as the probabilities that you find a pre-set that EXACTLY suits what you *need* or fancy is veery, very close to 0%, your next post will be something like: or: and you will likely be adviced to choose a tool and experiment with it (back to square #1). jaclaz
  13. Just in case : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banhammer A card for the role-players : No, no pre-made presets, AFAIK, but which particular "shrink" tool(s) are you referring to? Like: Maybe what you are after is this?: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=23553&hl= VHD_W7_Compact.exe represents a fairly good kind of pre-set, but it is not "the smallest" one. jaclaz
  14. Of course, because no one is going to buy it! ... but of course till now we had two different kinds of "virus writers", those expert in/focused on "PC only" and those expert in/focused on "cellular/tablets" only. Having a same platform may provide unexpted sinergies between the two groups . jaclaz
  15. .. which should be read - in absolute terms instead of comparative ones - as almost, but not quite, right jaclaz
  16. Well, the good news are that in Italian the "Program Files" are "Programmi", so at least *somehere* they did one thing right. Actually - and just for the record - the "right" approach since many years, just after the invention of partitionable hard disks , would have been to make by default a "System" partition and a "Data" partition/volume, and possibly a single directory in either volume with all the settings for the programs. Doing backups/restores and upgrading would have become - instead of a nightmare - a simple, everyday task (as it should be). It seems like Porsche actually made a survey asking to their customers whether they preferred the small German repair kit and the tiny compressor coming with it or the solution originally designed by MS, of which I have a couple rare images of early tests : and consensus - strangely enough - was almost entirely for the German design. jaclaz
  17. JFYI, it is MANY years that Porsche removed spare tires from the 911 and boxster, 2005 if I recall correctly, replacing it with a "repair kit" . I have never met a 911 or boxster owner actually upset about it. So, sorry to say so , but this time your "meanwhile" has a lesser effect than what was intended/expected. Meanwhile, in Ireland: jaclaz
  18. Very good work RobW . OT , and only "marginally" related, but still *somehow* connected: http://p-nand-q.com/gtools/grootshell.html Still "up to XP only", but maybe it can be tweaked/used/adapted for later NT based OS's. jaclaz
  19. Good. Please answer this question: Is in your view a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3750528AS a Seagate 7200.11? If you answer NO, you posted on the WRONG thread as this is RESERVED to 7200.11 ONLY. If you answer YES, you should see an optician , as, besides missing the thread title and the difference between 1 and 2 you also missed reading the Read-me-first, where among other consideration is written: and you have anyway posted on the WRONG thread . Please start a NEW thread for issues with the 7200.12 and/or search for posts about the 7200.12 which is NOT the 7200.11. (there are DIFFERENT procedures - mostly UNknown/UNdocumented - for issues with the 7200.12) jaclaz
  20. Which prompts obviously for a random meanwhile picture....: ...but the whole point still being, IF to produce screws hammers are used, and no hammer is produced anymore, once existing hammers will have worn out, it will be not possible to make anymore any screw, and the use of screwdrivers will drop..... Let me disagree, the way someone is dressed has nothing to do with charisma, dressing like that is simply (and IMHO) a form of lack of respect towards the audience and it is in this case in perfect agreement with the actual project presented: NO respect for the users/customers! jaclaz
  21. But it is a different error. It "sounds" like you have not the "right" version of IMDISK installed or that *somwhow* the install fails Can you try to run manually the mountdrive.cmd: and/or the SetupImDisk.CMD: and/or the SetupCDROM.CMD: Set fullname=%~1 imdisk -a -f "%fullname%" -m #: to understand which command actually produces the error message: "The subsystem required to support the image type is not present."? jaclaz
  22. Check this thread: Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues jaclaz
  23. But maybe you can find what prevented it (past tense) checking in the event logs? jaclaz
  24. Yep. NOT really, I guess that at the time I once thoght "let's use Loop_Counter" and another time I thought "let's use Loop_Flag". Maybe you could simplify with: ::Check if it is a Registry entry IF "!This_token:~0,2!"=="HK" ( ECHO Registry Entry: !Full_Line! ECHO !Full_Line!>>%Split_dir%\!Section!%Inf_name% GOTO :EOF ) but cannot say if it would be too "wide". jaclaz
  25. Yes, my bad, the suggestion was "generic" about 32/64, Windows 7 64 bit has the ProgramW6432 variable added allright (XP and Vista have it not): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa384274(v=vs.85).aspx Good, let's see what happens. jaclaz
