  1. The images are hosted on photobucket : hxxp://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k63/Tripredacus/streams2_zps7pcvjlw2.jpg and often that doesn't play well with all browsers. (it's OK with Chrome derivatives and QTWeb, but not with my Opera). Welcome to the new internet, where after years of standardization everything is more difficult, incompatible or both. jaclaz
  2. In the meantime, as a side note and just to prove *something* (in order to avoid some of the bullsh*t around the issue), I have quickly tested: CKeditor: http://ckeditor.com/demo WSYBB: http://www.wysibb.com/demo/ MarkitUP: http://markitup.jaysalvat.com/examples/bbcode/ SCEditor: http://www.sceditor.com/ and a couple more similar editors and ALL OF THEM seemingly work nicely[1] (within their own limits and within the specific BBCode or xhtml "dialect") with the same configuration (OS and browser) that I am using (and same lack of specific competence) here, the difference is that in this specific board implementation of CKeditor COMPLETELY FAILS to work correctly. So let's stop putting the blame on CKeditor, it is the specific implementation in IPB that creates the issues, whether by mistake, overlook or design doesn't really matter. jaclaz [1] particularly the switch between WYSIWYG and "source code" exists and works fine in ALL of them
  3. Allow me to slightly disagree, in the sense that is not like BBcode was a "perfect" solution, nor that it is "carved in stone" anywhere, I am not at all against a whole new markup language, let's say HTML or *whatever* as long as it provides the same (or better) capabilities, not less and particularly when it behaves erratically (as an example on my Opera the backspace works sometimes and sometimes not), offer NOT a clear view of where the focus is, the cursor jumps wherever it sees fit WHILE you are typing and invariably the WYSIWYG goes through an intermediate WYSINWYTBRWIBISLL (What You See Is Not What You Typed But Rather What I Believe It Should Look Like). And if I want to paste a LINK to a page (or a picture, or a video), I want to paste a LINK to it, not a preview of it, if I actually wanted a preview I could use (even in WYSIWYG) the corresponding button to embed it in the post. I am perfectly OK even to learn a whole new markup language (as said it is not rocket science) as long as it will allow me to express myself EXACTLY in the way I want, having posted formatted, highlighted, bolded, etc. the way I want them to look[1] without making it so inconvenient, difficult or downright impossible, and as said in this I am a "good guy" attempting to post as much as I can with a proper grammar, proper punctuation and readable formatting, even if a number of members completely missed this aspect of politeness towards the readers even until now when it was possible. If the idea is to have, instead of a technical board, something more similar to WhatsApp than anything else, they are doing it right. jaclaz [1]which NOT necessarily is what the demented guys over there think is now "cool" or "trendy"
  4. And, when the ampersand is correctly parsed/rendered, it is actually resolved to: hxxp://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163489-startisback-175/?page=52#comment-1120528 besides the stupid reference to "page" introduced sometimes in 3.x version (that was, is and will be extremely stupid), the good ol' reference still works: hxxp://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163489-startisback-175/?p=1120528 As usual they are changing everything to change nothing. jaclaz
  5. Well, it's nice to see that I am not the only one struggling with the stupid new interface, if even the Admin (and undoubtedly the most expert on the speciifc software ) has issues with properly using Quotes when replying, on the latest OS and with the latest browser. I don't know what caused that blank space in my previous post, sorry, I did a few tests, attempted to move around the "scrolling preview" of the url link, cannot say, this WYSIWYG has seemingly a life of its own, and does whatever it sees fitting without an apparent logic or fully reproducible manner (at least in my inexpert hands and on my browser). About BBcode (if it still exists in the new iteration of the board) it is not (as I see it) brain surgery or rocket science, it is just an extremely simple and primitive form of "markup language", whether it has specifically some new, weird syntax or not, it is something that has been managed fine over the last 15 years or more by the whole world, I fail to see any particular issue with it, at least for it's most commonly used tags, like quote, list, code, codebox, etc. this same board has (slightly) changed the syntax of the language in past updates without creating particular problems (if not the botching of pre-existing code/codebox content that happened, one way or the other, on ALL updates on ALL boards). jaclaz
  6. Only to add to bphlt previous post, if I use the stupid "link" button I can have an actual link (to a specific post on another board): http://reboot.pro/topic/19516-hack-bootmgr-to-boot-windows-in-bios-to-gpt/?p=198148 But if I paste just the URL, I have a senseless scrollable preview of the board that points to the THREAD (first post) . Actually, once posted it becomes a senseless empty (almost invisible) border around nothing. I will repeat that unless there is some way to manually control/edit the contents (like BBcode was) it is impossible (to me at least) to use the board at all. Or (very possibly) I am getting too old (and grumpy). jaclaz
  7. I see faking quotes as really not cool, actually extremely incorrect and inappropriate, but I don't want to hijack the thread, my previous post contained an example of what I see as another "bug" of the new software, I posted a link to a youtube video and the board software automatically decided to make a HUGE preview of it, in previous versions the preview was much smaller and less intrusive. jaclaz
  8. NO, not at all, otherwise how they could work from CD or DVD? Some Linux .iso's MAY need write access to the USB stick, but not all of them. Secondly, what about the tool's site? http://www.easy2boot.com/ http://www.easy2boot.com/forum/ Not exactly "hidden" info. jaclaz
  9. That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104952/quotes?item=qt0404534 Why don't you make a video of it? (it's cool, it's new, widens your audience, will have lots of visualizations, and likes on Facebook, LOL) jaclaz
  10. @bphlpt No prob we will be both here watching when NoelC (or any other member for that matters) - thanks to the "new convenience" - will soon hit his maximum quota of uploadable content an start complaining about it. jaclaz
  11. @NoelC Right when I thought you were the one against changes (when they do not make things better): jaclaz
  12. With all due respect, NO. If a .iso is saved on a writable media it is vulnerable to viruses or to "damage". If you want something "immune" to virus or damage you need to make your (presumably) USB stick READ ONLY, something that is sometimes possible using the "Manufacturer Tool" of the stick (it depends on the controller on the stick). Besides some (many) of the Linux .iso's (as configured by Easy2boot) boot through a mechanism that requires write access to the USB stick (as Easy2USB needs to write some partition info on 4th partition table entry). Conversely, Easy2boot is a (complex) set of instructions that automates the creation of a bootable USB stick, the result CANNOT be "easily" converted to a bootable .iso, you would need Steve6375 (or someone else) to write an equally complex set of instructions to "decompose" the result of Easy2boot at which point it would be easier to create a tool that directly assembles the .iso's into a HUGE one and that provides an "external" way to boot once saved to USB stick as .iso. You are asking for something that doesn't exist and it is far from trivial, besides NOT actually resolving the issue. jaclaz
  13. So, basically, to have something looking minimally “correct”, people will need to compose posts in Word or in an external html editor and then copy and paste it. Really is it possible to have viewable BBcodes (or html) so that the (few and going to become fewer) people that do care about proper composition and formatting of a post are not forced into “plain text”? And though I can understand how the IPB people would want to support new OS, browsers etc, I do not believe (nor anyone will ever be able to convince me about this) that they do have to break compatibility with "older" operating systems (or browsers, etc.). The WYSIWYG editor in IPB sucked, sucks and will suck, but there are limits, multiquoting, i.e. taking snippets of a previous post to reply to single points was all in all doable (using BBcode and manual editing) in an easy way, *like*: how exactly can it be done now? Please understand how I DID NOT WANT to have the stupid "quote" box above, what I pasted was a SIMPLE LINK, like: hxxp://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175222-using-quote-and-multiquote-on-replies/ and the STUPID WYSIWYG editor decided to CHANGE it the way IT liked it to be. Sorry, xper, I know that you are a "victim" (like all the users) of the senseless changes the IPB guys made, but this is frustrating (besides preoccupying). jaclaz
  14. IMHO (and I know I will be flamed for this), the right settings are: SINGLE "newline" spacing (the double spacing ONLY makes things worse on posts. Make the board accept again newline characters so that INTENTIONAL double-spacing f line is allowed, while single line spacing is possible IF #2 is not possible, people willing ot double-space lines should learn to use SHIFT+Enter Anyway most of the formatting functions (as an example I had to go through a number of hops to get the above numbered list and the present following text remains indented as I seemingly cannot exit the "numbered list") do not work properly (at least in my Opera), and we do NEED something *like* the good ol' BBcode mode, most people did not care with proper formatting/setting of posts at the time the user interface was easy to use and worked, now that it is almost impossible to have anything look the way it should, more people among the ones that did care won't bother anymore and little by little the "wuality" (in the sense of appearance, readability) of posts will lower, as everyone will feel allowed to use the board like WhatsApp jaclaz
  15. How big in size would the .iso be? Would it fit on a DVD? WHY (exactly) do you want or *need* the USB "converted" to .iso? jaclaz
  16. How do you think I found out that? I complained, and that was all I got! (as said there is hope that things will - in due time - start working again, but it takes time, there is no need to put pressure on xper, he is doing everuthing he can and even more) If you want to complain you should complain to the IPB guys, at every update they make of the software they manage to break something some more and it takes days or weeks of hard work by the Site Admin to find the proper settings and restore things as they should be (when possible), historically this happened every single time there was a board update, those guys behave like their product is not to be applied to an existing board with tens of thousands of members and posts, and years of settings/tweaks and what not.
  17. ... try using SHIFT+ENTER to go to a new paragraph [1] ... jaclaz [1] Not that I approve of the changes, until the good site admin won't find a way to tame this new release of the IP board software and make it usable it will be a nightmare, the new editor has all the defects an editor can have+one more, and since the "BBCode" option is seemingly altogether missing we can simply forget to have nicely quoted/tidy looking posts until hopefully it is restored.
  18. Not really IOT related, still : http://jacquesmattheij.com/trackers Trackers jaclaz
  19. Well, no. You did not address the main issue, which is the letters used by the Windows 7 systems conflicting with the ones that Windows 8 assigns by default at install time. Re-installing in MBR-CMS mode will maybe solve the issues with the EasyBCD you use, and possibly will allow some other tricks, see below, but not what should be (IMHO) the right way to have a system configured. The real issue is the conflict in drive letter assignment. Now that everything is MBR-CSM, you could install grub4dos and freely chainload the Windows 7 boot manager, and/or hide other partitions when booting, but though it will probably work nicely it remains a non optimal setting. You must understand that the drive letter assigned inside the OS to the "system" volume (what the good MS guys call - backwards - "boot" ) is almost like "carved in stone", it cannot be changed after install. You have already "taken" in the two installs of Windows 8.1 the drive letter C:(assigned to volume 3 when booting W811 and to volume 4 when booting W812) so you will have a conflict with _X647 that will get anyway a different drive letter (instead of it's own C:), as said this is usually not a good idea, as you have already noticed on just the new partitioning, most of the volumes get different drive letters when you boot the one or the other Windows 8.1 installs Volume 3 C: or E: Volume 4 D: or C: Volume 5 G: or D: What happened. You installed your first Windows 8.1. When setup started it detected an unpartitioned device and proceeded to automagically create a 350 mb "reserved" partition (that you don't really-really want) and a huge NTFS partition with the rest of the disk. Then Windows was installed having PERMANENTLY set that first partition as drive letter C:. Then you shrinked that partition and installed the second Windows 8.1. When setup started for the second install it automagically assigned to "itself", again the drive letter C:, and this is PERMANENT. You have already created a PERMANENT conflict between the two new installs. Mind you there are two theories on "proper" drive letter assignment, "mine" (which is the right one BTW ) that says that no matter which OS you boot ALL volumes must appear with the SAME drive letter and the "other" one (wrong but still having some merit) of having the "system" partition being always C: (this makes things easier, as an example, with programs that insist on installing on C:\ ). From the way you had partitioned/installed your Windows 7 systems it seems like you used "my" approach, i.e. first partition (primary) on that disk (that is now second) is always C:, second (logical volume) is always D:, third (logical volume) is always E:, fourth (logical volume) is always F:, my guess is that you want to maintain the same approach. If this is the case, what you should do would be to: connect the "old" disk as "first disk" boot the Windows 7 _X647 delete all partitions on the new 1 Tb disk create a new partition (primary, NTFS) on it sized 80 Gb <- this will become your new W811 <- it will probably be drive letter G: create a new partition (primary, NTFS) on it sized 80 Gb <- this will become your new W812 <- it will probably be drive letter H: boot from the stick and BEFORE running the setup/install [*] CHECK which letter the WinPE has assigned to the four partitions on the old disk (they need to be C:, D:, E:, F: but they likely won't be those) AND CHECK which drive letter has the W811 partition, it needs to be G: but likely it would be D: ), change drive letter assignment in DSKPART so that they are what they should be. test that the installed W811 boots and gets drive letter G: if everything is OK, repeat for the W812 install, checking that the C:, D:, E:, F: and G: are properly assigned and that the W812 gets drive letter H: Please note that at this point the BOOTMGR and \boot\BCD that actually boots all the OS's (two win8.1's and four win7's) wll be on first partition on first disk (the _X647), the net effect being that should you remove the first disk neither of the Windows 8.1's will be able boot anymore, but if you succeed till here we will later see how to make this second (new, 1 Tb) disk capable of booting the Windows 8.1's by itself. jaclaz [*] this means that when you are prompted to either install or repair, etc. you should press SHIFT+F10, which will open a command prompt form which you can run DISKPART
  20. You need to detect if the running OS is 32 bit or 64 bit, then - when needed - use the "virtual" Sysnative folder: http://www.samlogic.net/articles/sysnative-folder-64-bit-windows.htm Of course while (AGAIN) you should use .cmd and not .bat as extension, how exactly you "convert" the batch file to an executable may matter. jaclaz
  21. It is a - if not common - frequent enough issue, the stickl controller "decides" to turn itself into "read only". There are some speculations about this being a form of "safety" when there is an error of some kind in the working, when writing files to it, possibly the idea is "better to keep accessible though read-only what has been written successfully". Basically once the sticks are (mass) produced they are formatted/tested with this special software that more or less should find defective areas of the memory and exclude them from the area accessible to the user or allow to mark the stick as "bad", it is very possible that an area of the stick memory went bad after that test and "low level format" or that for *any* reason a defective area was included in the accessible area. In some cases it is possible to "reset" the stick to factory settings using some special manufacturer software, and there are reports of sticks that once reset successfully continue to work OK for years and of stick that re-lock themselves as soon as something is written to them or however very soon after having been reset. For a 1 Gb stick, probably it isn't worth the hassle to find (if available) the Manufacturer's Tool and to attempt the reset. jaclaz
  22. Which will be the nth thread with exactly the same content, posted by the same people. Heck, you started this one: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175265-windows-xp-is-still-king/ just a few days ago, in which way the present one should be different? jaclaz
  23. And now, for NO apparent reason : http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/03/epic-uptime-achievement-can-you-beat-16-years/ jaclaz
  24. No, it is not , no missile was ever fired during the cold war, otherwise it would have become pretty fast a hot one. Microsoft is actually firing their missiles (in the form of senseless resetting updates) and you (and the other good people) fire back with your tweaking tools, none of the fighting parties moving forward or backwards a single inch, it is more like Trench Warfare: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trench_warfare jaclaz
  25. But comeon, how many people in the real world will actually list and/or copy files on a PC? Most of them are busy reading ads, making witty tweets and watching funny youtube videos or commenting on some other people's facebook.... jaclaz
