  1. Complains HOW exactly? I mean which exact error message do you get? If it comes from a grub4dos, it will be just a matter of changing (or adding) a suitable menu.lst, if it comes from the CD bootsector that finds not the BOOTMGR, it may be an actual missing BOOTMGR file or having it in the "wrong" path. jaclaz
  2. Well, seemingly one breakthrough new technology is the possibility to "convert" plain programs to "apps": http://recode.net/2016/03/30/microsoft-planning-windows-10-anniversary-update-this-summer/ which nicely answers the question: HOW can I convert my program to an app for the Windows Store? the remaining questions being of course : WHY would I convert my program to an app for the Windows Store? jaclaz
  3. Though I never had any issue with TeamViewer similar to the ones submix8 reported, it is NOT something I would like to have on any of my machines. TightVNC: http://www.tightvnc.com/ or RealVNC: http://www.realvnc.com/products/vnc/ or UltraVNC: http://www.uvnc.com/home.html are in my experience reliable and more generally "good enough", of course - but it depends on a number of factors - it may take a little bit to install/configure it correctly, though the UltraVNC SC should be easy enough. Those guys also make a somewhat simplified tool PChelpware: http://www.uvnc.com/products/pchelpware.html which works more or less like TeamViewer (in principle, i.e. by going through a third party server) thus simplifying connection settings. jaclaz
  4. Sure, guess WHY exactly I explicitly posted the filename? http://en.lmgtfy.com/?q=Wme_DDK.exe jaclaz
  5. No prob , grell72 has just posted the expected link to a Commercial product. @submix8c The whole point of (again a little plug) of PassPass is that you need ONLY grub4dos and the grub4dos batch script, and not any PE or Linux distro, nor any fancy program, besides - addotionally - providing the possibility of recovering the old password (as opposed to resetting it). jaclaz
  6. The (ab)use of Pareto Principe is a double edged sword. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle jaclaz
  7. Well, we are not really having a discussion, but it's good as well . jaclaz
  8. Good, then leave it open, it was just a suggestion to avoid anyone posting on it by mistake. jaclaz
  9. ...rice cooker: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/03/xiaomi-introduces-mi-ecosystem-with-new-smart-rice-cooker/ reading the bar-codes is a clear advantage over Rfid based previous attempts: http://asiajin.com/blog/2012/03/16/android-contactless-rfid-controlled-rice-cooker-by-panasonic/ jaclaz
  10. Maybe: http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-and-canonical-partner-to-bring-ubuntu-to-windows-10/ Deja-vu: http://www.colinux.org/ jaclaz
  11. Not a problom, lol. jaclaz
  12. And it will remain fine, at least - with this one time exception - personally I am not going to make it longer. jaclaz
  13. I can see in "activity" that xper just posted an article in "news": http://www.msfn.org/board/news/security/cyber-criminals-use-microsoft-powershell-in-ransomware-attacks-r10/ but it doesn't work: jaclaz
  14. Sure, as said I use Opera 12.15 "normally" (with a few quirks, particularly in the editor), it was ihateusernames that attempted to access the board with two older version the oldest one crashing. jaclaz
  15. ... and a d@mn fast connection at both ends ... jaclaz
  16. I don't think people expect it, I believe people expect that it works (somewhat). The level at which it works (or fails to work) is in the eye of the beholder, but one thing is some quirks in the interface (when editing/replying/etc. even if seemingly unmotivated), another is crashing the browser on access or preventing from logging in (though this latter has less relevance if after the login an old browser would not be capable of replying to a post or making a new thread). jaclaz
  17. I just understood how this thread and overall this "consolidating" or "mono-themed" approach is considered not welcome/advised on MSFN, see: I apologize for any inconvenience, sorry . A moderator/Admin will hopefully soon close this thread in order to minimize possible further disruption or disturbance to the intended way of working of the board. jaclaz
  18. @Tripredacus I am really sorry to have contributed - in some cases dramatically - to create such relevant problems and/or any inconvenience to you, xper or any other good board admin. It would however make little sense (to me) to disseminate the board "news" with non-opinionated copy/pastes of technology news, unconnected the one to the other and each one duplicated in to single "discussion", as the scope (if any) was to "keep things together". Specifically the "Iot is a bad idea" thread - surprisingly - was backed up by a "plan", i.e. to propose a thesis and provide a number of examples supporting that thesis, while allowing other members to comment both on the thesis and on the examples provided. All these years believing that a "discussion board" was a place where people exchanged knowledge, ideas and opinions, that "technology news sites" were places where news were published, and that MSFN was intended to be somewhat different from "Hacker News" or from *any* blog, and - again - sorry I completely failed to understand the points that you have now so eloquently explained. As a side note - I also contributed to create other extremely long threads, such as: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/120444-how-to-install-windows-from-usb-winsetupfromusb-with-gui/ (86 pages right now) and: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/128807-the-solution-for-seagate-720011-hdds/ (194 pages right now), I have to apologize for having contributed to database errors and/or making the board unavailable to users. Unless of course the databases engine is OK with long technical topics, but selectively sensitive to loooong threads containing matters that would be better scattered among a zillion threads/posts/news articles. Can you please close the "Iot is a bad idea" topic? jaclaz
  19. Well, that is not really surprising, it's just Chromium (or more exactly Webkit or Blink) by any other name.... With the Opera I use, version 12.15 (as said Presto engine) though not as "old" as the versions used by ihateusernames, there are a number of strange quirks, particularly (but not only) in the editor (which is "queer" as - as said elsewhere - the "plain" CK editor works fine in it). jaclaz
  20. Not really, it started with Vista : And, for the record, there is disimprovement: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Verschlimmbesserung and, Windows is used as an actual example on the Free Dictionary: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Disimprovement jaclaz
  21. Something like http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/windows-xp/wxprmass.html https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457004.aspx jaclaz

  23. Naah, you must have missed the part where if you actually PAY for the storage they will be very happy to give some to you, proportional to how much you pay, of course this is more comparable to your "local" solution, unless you can get those extra drives for free . However it is not at all clear (to me at least) how (as a numbered list): can anyone possibly (IF the account becomes read-only at point #2) be able to delete some files to fit into the quota before step #3, #4 or #5, and more generally what is the actual difference in access between #2 and #3. A corporation that cannot even word decently a set of policies ... jaclaz
  24. I would believe that the lack of info is "on purpose", the general idea of the continuous upgrade model is to remove information to the (tech savvy) user, everything is marked as "latest", and more or less leads, to "run windows update, it is the best choice for you". The 4.8.207 version is August 2015: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3038936 and is the last one I could find (at least in this documented form), but there is no real way to make sure the above is "latest" one. jaclaz
  25. To be fair, the 3Tb backup drive will NOT send you a notice saying "I'm gonna brick myself next month" BUT it will become a 0 Gb drive nonetheless. In other words with greater power come greater responsibilities... jaclaz
