Just to be sure. I'm not trying to underestimate your work. BTW you've done great work with it. And Thank You for that. I posted this as addition to your tests because guys test version was Enterprise and according to M$ it suppose to be quiet when all telemetry options are disabled (IIRC) EDIT: Someone should test LTSB version. That would be interesting to see.

Remember this? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174208-windows-10-deeper-impressions/page-58#entry1117338 Something very strange happened (at least). After that guy research Gordon Kelly reacted at Forbes Windows 10 Worst Secret Spins Out Of Control and Ed Bott When it comes to Windows 10 privacy, don't trust amateur analysts and back at Forbes Microsoft Upgrades Windows 10 Powers Of Control Summary: Guys posts are deleted and he disappeared from site. glnz, are you using an ad blocker? Forbes.com recently tweaked their website to block users who are using ad blockers. I'm using Ghostery on Pale Moon and can visit the site by unblocking just a few ad servers: DoubleClick, LiftDNA, Media.net. I have all the others blocked, and can get in no problem even though I'm not a subscriber. You may want to play around with various combinations of blocked and unblocked servers. --JorgeA I'm using too but with uBlock Origin and i didn't have access to site until i installed Scriptish - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/scriptish/?src=ss and Anti-Adblock-Killer script for it - https://reek.github.io/anti-adblock-killer/

And to be sure it stays that way... I don't have it. Turned off update on time.

Do you mean: 1) what to do if you're currently running Windows 10; or 2) what to do if you don't want to run Windows 10 ever? If (1) above, then you can try to get as close as possible to a Windows 7 experience by installing Aero Glass, using a privacy-control tool such as ShutUp10, and installing the Microsoft tool to hide updates. You can get a bit closer to what we currently enjoy by getting Windows 10 Pro, which will give you additional options for controlling the telemetry (privacy), but IIRC it won't give you much in the way of added control over Windows Updates. If (2) above, then you can stay on Win7 and set up a digital fortress with multiple layers of security such as discussed here, here, here, and here. If and when Win7 becomes untenable for whatever reason (security, technology), then you can consider switching to Linux or another non-Microsoft OS. My plan is #2. Hope this helps. --JorgeA I hate to admit it I am enjoying my Linux system there seems to be a solution to every problem, however, I still enjoy my Windows 7 system. If you think it you can make it happen in Linux! (not always an ideal soulution) I'll stick with my fortified Win 7 as i have second thoughts about Linux. Especially after reading this: The Linux Foundation Has Become Like a Corporate Think Tank, Microsoft Influence Included

Pure math 11.000.000.000 hours / 200.000.000 instaled WinX = 55 hours / 31 days in December = 1,77 hours (about one hour and 46 min.) IMHO not something you can brag about other than "Yes we collect even more data than you think"

Looks like they bring it back. Microsoft reverses course, restores downloads of Windows 10 November Update

My hat's off to you, NoelC!

Thanks for heads up. I completely closed Windows 7 on VM (no internet access). OEM activated and "cleaned" with DWS Lite I will report back in may '16.
-
Not even then. I prefer to download standalone update from M$, extract cab and install it with dism. I have finger thick dust on wusa.exe and i would like to keep it that way.
-
Looks to me like Win 10 will top out at about 10% adoption

If it makes him $$$, why should he? -
If it helps. I have installed Windows 8 on VM back in january 2013. Last updated two and half year ago and still activated.
-
Via Group Policy Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Defender or to uninstall with install_wim_tweak.exe and dism
-
--JorgeA Maybe someone at M$ in meantime implement something actually sane in Windows 10.

In Properties under Recovery tab change to "Take No Action" on first and second failure.

Just extract bitmaps #632 and #633 from beta shell32 and replace same number images in your shell32. Or... Google it for "Theme Resource Changer" program, install it.(if you can't find it i will gladly send it to you) In your customised theme folder make new one and name it "Shell32.dll", place extracted images from shell32.dll to that folder and you are good to go. You can if you want download my theme from DeviantArt to see how folders should look like. http://351837.deviantart.com/art/Metallised-390028188

Note: This is wild guess If you have 64 bit Win revert in syswow64 too. And check shell32.dll.mui in system32\en-us and syswow64\en-us if they are altered, revert it if they are. Run ccleaner and check "Window Size/Location Cache" Restart after all that I hope that should do it.

Or place your Win7 install.wim to Win 8.1 iso and make new iso. Tested by myself on VM. Works like charm.

Did you happen to mess with UIFILEs in Shell32.dll?
