  1. sorry D and R nnot had time to test it. But i would look in to group policy for sue. hail hail
  2. Just one thing to thinnk about Windows XP Pro used as a server will only allow 10 connections to the PC used as the server. [someone may tell me different] so in an office with 10 plus PC's you would need to have two servers. hail hail
  3. Hi, I have been through every FTP client and found them all to be lacking something or other. I use wS_FTP pro 9 and you can go to TOOLS/OPTIONS/GENERAL in there you can set ALLOW DELETION OF NON EMPTY FOLDERS. This shouls solve youor problem. I do not know why this iis here because it is a royal paiin in the @ss. hail hail
  4. This is not much help; but..... Double check all settings because its amazinig the amount of typo's you make. Faiiliing that haave you tried without any encryption. hail hail
  5. Hi, I have seen this before. It is the way your ISP haas you sharing your connection. I take it you do not have any problems as such. Your IP is still publlic and you can use it for games ftp and so on? The other IP is most probablly the router that splits you and your neighbours conections. If you use dial up you would notice it would happenn almost everytime a server trys to resolve your IP. Nothing to worry about.... Hail Hail
  6. thanks fat64...... did not thinnk so, but you never know ! hail hail
  7. Just looking a Group Policy for another reason and came across this. Dont know if it is what you want but a handy find. To run RD with a cerrtain app only. As in the original TS do this. START / RUN / GPEDIT.MSC USER CONFIGURATION / ADMINISTRATIVE TEMPLATES / WINDOWS COMPNENTS / TERMINAL SERVICES / START A PROGRAM ON CONECTIOIN. This would let you only run MS Word for example. hail hail
  8. Does anyone know if you can change the above key press combination to a custom one ? hail hail
  9. i am going to try and run a few tests today with this. but i think Group Policy is the way to go. I'll post the results later. hail hail
  10. Hi jbkriebel.... I have posted something similar to this before. As far as I know RD is different from TS so you will not see a list of host’s in the browse option of the client. For this you would need a TS running. (Maybe someone can tell me otherwise ?) What about a fresh install does that work ? Can you connect to the other machines through the network over NetBIOS \\comuptername\share All I would say is check you have a password on the account you are using as you seem to have tried everything else. Not much help I know, but ii would make sure the network is fine before using RD. Hail hail
  11. aalawee : since you installed it have you added ay hardware ? video car, hard drive..... hail hail
  12. Hi Dell and Rodney The standard groups in xp are pretty good already. Can you tell me what you want to use the group for and I'll explain how to do it. hail hail
  13. RedMan, This should get you setup with a mail account. Here are the contents of the file attached. Change all in green or remove them if you dont need the option. This creates everything and just needs a password the first time you check the account. 14. Well sorry, and apologies for the misunderstanding. Although we are no further forward. Here is what I am looking at. IBM xSeries x235 Server - £1447 3.6 ghz 1gb ram 109gb disk Software Backup Exec 9.1 - £318 Windows 2003 server Standard Edition 5 User - £649 Total = £2414 This is without a back up device and antivirus software. Also I would require a larger capacity so custom hard disk’s would need to be installed. Please let me know your source for equipment. As you can see I seem to be paying more shopping at PC world. Links to your suppliers would be a good help. Thanks. Hail Hail
  15. ::Dell and Rodney You are the first person I have came across here that is, well lets say not very helpfull. Why post when you have nothing to offer apart from barra'loads of crap. If you read the whole post you will see JPATTO thinks he needs a proper server. Not a high spec PC knocked up from the local discount PC shop. hail hail
  16. ::MD Sorry, I do not know of an automated way to do this. hail hail
  17. ::Dell and Rodney Sure would like to get things on the cheap. At the moment I am looking for... server 250gb capacity 1gb ram min - xeon 2.2ghz backup device (tape stremer) running a Windows 2003 (25 user) OS can you let me know ? thanks for the good info....this site rocks ! hail hail
  18. I dont think that it is possible. What are you trying to do ? You could use a batch command or VBS script. Eiither to run when yyou logon or double click it. As when you connect to a RD that is already running it will have already loaded up all the system/user settings. hail hail
  19. just a thought..... You bought thiis nnew right ? and your system is a little older ? Check the ribbonn cable is a 133 annnd not a 33 or what ever.... the wrong ribbon cable may casue that. hail hail
  20. send it to me if you are struggeling and i'll do it for you. hail hail
  21. yes the explorer windows/IE staus bar.... only after a reboot it is not a problem in closing in the same winndows sessions. hail hail
  22. I have a problem and it is that my copy of winndows does not save my status bar. If I turn it on it reverts back to hidden after a reboot. Anybody had this problem and know how to save its state ? hail hail
  23. Hi, sounds to me like you should contact PC world or some place similar. These places can offer a ready made server with support if you choose. I would go down this street if I was in your shoes as to ask this question suggest you have limited server experience. Just rememeber you will be looking aat the guts of three thousand pounds to get you started. As for backup solution, well if you have 50gig already the cheapest option would be sonys AIT it will deliver about 130gb backup compressed. And 50gb native. after that you are looking at a SDLT 160/320gb. AIT = £450 SDLT = £1700 Sorry this is not very helpfull but I think you need to define your requirments more. hail hail
  24. As everyone has said there is not ture way to stay safe but you can minamize the risk. i use a PC that has kazza and all my insecure internet enabled software on it. And I use a PC for my email and internet banking so the PC is only on for a shoort period of time it has nno extra software apart from antivirus and contains all my word excel docs. this means when my internet PC gets bogged down with cr*p i just reinstall, no problems. All this depends onn havingn two pc's though. hail hail
  25. Hi, Do you really need a server ? With the requirments you have said a Win XP pro machine should do the job. Why spend all that money if you dont need to. How much data will you be storing ? Will users be accessing it at the same time ? What functions to you require? (Application deployment, Security control or just as a backup) I suspect even a networked harddriive system would better suit your needs. hail hail
