  1. get the beter one then. harry, not sure, but i can find out for you i think... ill post it here if i do
  2. yeah it will make a BIG difference to the quality of your prints, especially around the edges of smooth objects.. say the edge of a glass or a cars profile or something, your forehead or something else similarly large and round if you just want a fun cam get the cheaper one, but if you think you will use it to totaly replace your old 35mm job then get the good one. i only use mine for silly stuff, its not good enough to do weddings or something like that with. (mines very old now, fuji MX1200 1.3 mega pixels)
  3. its cool i like it
  4. if all your pci cards you know about are installed then its something onboard. my best guess = onboard modem or graphics or sound driver, possibly nic adapter?
  5. well you have to move a jumper on it for the ddr333 ram. if you have slower ddr ram then you can just set it all up out tha box the thing is stienrf, if you buy a new motherboard that will support your intended athlon 2200XP, you will need to buy some new ram. i bought 512mb crucial ddr 2700, cost me £148!!!! there are a few boards out there that will run both ddr and sdram, and support newer cpu speeds, but im not sure if theres one out there that will run a 2200 and sdram. again, your ram would be choking your cpu speed because of the slower bus speed.
  6. true.. i rang my isp last week asking them to enable me a new MAC address and the girl on the end of the phone thought i was moving house! lol true story. steinrf, nobodys here to patronise or insult you, but we have to assume you know nothing,, or we end up posting more and more instructions, easier to get it all out in one post and then other people who read it too who actually dont know can make sense of it easily.... maybe that didnt make sense... if you like MSI boards, my personal recomend is the KT3 Ultra ARU i bolded ARU as theres two versions of the ultra board, ones rubbish, but the aru model is great, excellent bios, RAID if you want it, it will run an athlon 2200XP i believe too, i run a 2100XP, but check the stats on the msi site to be sure. ive looked at the link, dragons is right your mobo wont run a 2200XP chip im afraid buddy, your going to need a bit more cash for a mobo. [edit] then i found this: but the cpu support page says it wont run anything faster than a 1.4ghz athlon, and thats the very top end, it wont run many other chips, such as an athlon 1.33G. i understand why your confused, one part of the site says it will run it, the other says it wont. that BIOS update page is for a series of boards, the kt7, kt7 turbo and turbo 2, and your board, the pro 2. that bios update is only for the other versions of your board, not the pro 2. like ELITE said though, your not going to alter your FSB, i think it would be a waste of cash putting a 2200XP in a turbo 2 even, as you would be choking it to death with that FSB, you probably wouldnt tell the difference between a 1.4ghz or a 2200XP with a 200mhz FSB
  7. nobodys making fun of you steinrf im guessing though that english isnt your first language? maybe im wrong.. dont shoot me if i am
  8. im lazy and havent gone to check the site out, but if a bios upgrade will allow you to use the new cpu and your boards makers say so then... yes it should work. BUT as luke pointed out your fbs is much lower than the cpu, it would be like buying a ferrari engine and putting it in a tank. you wont get what you expect from it and it may even be unstable under load. you would be effectivley strangling your cpu. a motherboard is pretty cheap, and most of the good ones out there are well worth the money, some to check out would be soyo MSI ABIT they all have the best AMD boards about at the moment, any one of their latest offerings will be a good buy, it just depends on what you expect from your motherboard, eg: i chose the MSI kt 3 ultra aru, because i want to have a raid setup soon, abit dont have raid on their mobo, but its faster,.. etc etc. if you cant afford both, but want to be able to buy the cpu and use it while you save for the motherboard that will give you the best from it, then according to what you say you can do that, BIOS flashing can be difficult depending on the make and age of your motherboard however, and you could even render it useless (unless you have a new bios chip posted to you, which can take weeks of waiting!) hope it all goes well
  9. eeeek!!! your fps is pants! ok, whats your desktop res running at? do you use openGL or hardware in CS? (opengl will give beter results!) what res is CS set to? tried any different detonator drivers? then theres settings you can change in the CS console, such as "max_fps 100" without the quotes (i think i got that right.) €L1T€ can post more, i dont play CS anymore. i get 100 Fps in opengl mode with my ati card, CS set to 800x600 res, desktop is at 1152x864 latest catalyst drivers, last set of catalysts gave same fps too. see, you most a question and get lots more back... you wont do it again will ya!?
  10. heh i like pc mag. bit too indepth sometimes though, maybe its a good thing, i dunno - sometimes the text in reviews can go on a bit, one i buy regular tho, worth the cash.
  11. and keyrings for runners up? i like this, giving other peoples shiznit away!
  12. thats a government address, they have no doubt become sick of it anyhow and wiped the account or disabled email from unknown scources. you can block most spam in outlook using message rules, and tell it to auto wipe messages that contain certain words in the subject line or content, eg delete any email with the word "mortgage" or "viagra" in the subject line, also block "xxx" and "horny teen" (how comes i always get the latter ones?? ) look at message rules in outlook express, make sure you tell it to delete the mails, or create a new folder on the mailbox and tell it to send mails with those "banned" words you set to the folder, then you can check it every now and again and check for any mail accidently sent there, anything else u can delete manually if your worried about getting things deleted by mistake, depends what words you apply rules to. http://www.spamcop.net is usefull as is: http://www.spamhaus.org if you need anymore help just ask and welcome to msfn bluebird!

  19. kerio runs like a dream on XP, its the best firewall i have ever used and ive tried a lot of the ones out there norton zone alarm win XP conseal deerfield sygate kerio tiny and others i forget, kerio is the best of the bunch and its free! za would block some games if i tried to host, even if i turned it off, as the true vector part of it always runs. in kerio you can save your permissions and export the file to disc or onto another pc on your network, very usefull for if you ever format, just install kerio, load your backup rules file, job done

  21. a case fan on the front or side of the case should suck air in really, exaust fans go at the back. the fan on the heatsink is seperate, think of it as using the air in your case, so if the air in the case is clean and cool, so is the air going on the heatsink. if you have a fan sucking air into the case you should idealy have one blowing out. if you dont its called a posative pressure setup. eg, if i have a 120mm fan drawing air in i should have at least an 80mm blowing air out, im slightly posative pressure there, but its ok. or i could have two 60mm and be equaly pressure. dont forget fans all shift different amounts of air too. you could go into detail with it, but just have a fan blowing out of the case for every one thats blowing in and its ok
  22. have you updated the firmware then?
  23. another thing that sometimes works, put the windows disc in and go into the recovery console, dont press R to repair, the proper console. run CHKDSK and reboot, usually works
  24. thats how i did it. i jus saw the option while poking about in network settings, didnt need a guide, but that one will help you get it going quickly by the quick read i had of it. its not hard, getting it to work properly.. now thats another matter i got it working after a few tries, but having 56k users connect was waaaaay to slow at both ends. also it will only allow one connection, and i couldnt figure how to allow more, it says something about maximum liscence or some poop. creating multiple vpns doesent work either. i gave up.
