  1. You got that right Thanks man!
  2. I didn't know that. Ok, then go ahead and buy a RAM. How much you got (or plan to have) to spend on the RAM?
  3. Have you done any recent changes to your computer (settings, installed any programs)? Tell us what do did the last time your computer worked just fine before you shut it off.
  4. All you need to know about ´em is this, the lower number the better. The best timings you could have is 2-2-2-5. I wouldn't recommend buying a RAM that's different in size as it could cause errors in some computer configurations. Always match ´em, 256+256, 512+512 and so on.EDIT: If you're not OC'ing then you don't need to know much about timings.
  5. You got dual RAMs or just one? If you have dual then it means that your RAMs are running with 400 mhz which corresponds to PC3200 so I would suggest another 256 MB stick with the same speed. I wouldn't recommend buying larger RAM then that as it could cause problems (I got this kind of problem before). So, you either throw out the old RAM and buy 2 new sticks or, you keep the old one and add another 256. If you got only 1 RAM stick then your RAM is running with lesser then PC2100 and then I would say the same thing. A stick with the same speed to match the existing one. I assume that the RAM and CPU are running with a 1:1 ratio, if they aren't then I don't know. That's the easiest way to detemine and solve your solution altough, it would be safer if you could open your computer and have a look at your RAM stick. It should have a label on it that states the speed and size. Fill us in with more information as it's much easier to help you then. I hope that answered some of your questions. Good Luck!
  6. You should always try to stick with the same brand and the same speeds when buying RAMs, that way you ensure yourself that you are getting maximum performance out of your sticks. Could BSOD errors be caused by the PSU? You're **** straight it could be. It depends on what the BSOD says, but sure. If you're PSU is starting to malfunction and gives the CPU lesser Vcore then it's supposed to, Windows sees this as a Hardware change that it cannot handle and gives you an BSOD. That's just an example. It could just aswell be the RAM or GPU that is experiencing the problem. You get the picture.
  7. @interminded: Don't worry, I'm not blaming you. It was entirely my decision. To all you guys suggesting other things to do except chilifrei64 & interminded, I've tried it all. Restart in Safe-mode, scan with AV-program, latest updates. No success. That's impossible as it executes even in Safe-mode resulting in file in use -> access denied. Well, I did a reinstall on his computer and it's back on track now. Although I must say that he was in a pretty s****y situation as he lost some valuable stuff because he didn't do backups before it all started. Creating backups of files that are on his exposed HDD would be foolish as the risk that those files could be infected is very high (which would spread the virus to his new formatted windows), so he simply had to remove it all. Well, I guess sh** happends, sometimes. What more can you say? After all, it's computers that we are talking about.
  8. Well, I'll try to be as short as I can as I re-tell the whole story on how I fixed it. I started out by creating the XPCDSP2 with slipstreamed SATA drivers. That didn't work as it gave me a message saying that some of my setup files were corrupt :blink (I redid this once again and got the same message) so I gave up on that part. I thought that it was all lost and that I would be forced to format with my UAXPCD and loose all my info on my SATA HDD, but then I remembered that I had a IDE HDD inside my computer for backups which I could use for temporary Windows installation!. So, I installed Windows on it and booted into Windows, installed the SATA drivers and I was back on track. I did a backup of all stuff and formatted the HDD with my almost finished UACD. That's all folks. It was a hell of a fight, but I finally made it. It's funny, how you can wake up one day and suddenly, your computer refuses to boot. I guess that it has tought me a lesson, always backup all your work!
  9. Thanks man, really appreciate it. I guess there's no other option. Thanks again!
  10. Hi interminded:) I thought I recognized you Anyway, none of those things above are shown on his computer. I don't know much about the computer itself as it's a brand computer (Acer, I think). In the taskmanager a see a program like "erflkxg.exe". I don't know the pattern for the name creation, although it constantly changes name everytime you end it or restart windows.
  11. Hi all! My buddy has a problem. I've been trying to fix his computer, but without any success. The problem he has is that when windows boots up, a virus (or trojan, I don't know) is executed and shown in task manager. If I try to delete it, it renames itself and executes all over again. I've tried disabling it from msconfig, but that only results in the same thing. It renames itself and a new entry is made there. I also tried searching registry for any kind of entries related to this virus, without any progress. Deleting the problem is not possible as Windows says that the file is in use. Does anyone of you guys know how to solve this problem? Perhaps someone've had the same problem? Thanks in advance! Marthax
  12. Thanks man
  13. Yes, I tried and it didn't work. I'll sure track this topic so that I know how to fix this kind of problems in the future.
  14. Yeah, and I appreciate it alot. Thank you for your help & time!
  15. Svasutin, if it's too much to do, I could just reinstall windows. I mean, I don't wanna be a pain in the a** for your sake. You've given me so much help already.
  16. Alright, take your time. I appreciate it, once again. I also tried to replacing the scsi settings in boot.ini with multi, as you stated before, but that didn't work. scsi is the way to go in this situation. EDIT: 148 is impossible. The range is 1 - 128.
  17. I'm on it right now. I'll let you know in a few minutes. Thanks a lot for the help svasutin. Really appreciate it. EDIT: When the "Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM" appears, it says: "1.FD 1.44 MB System Type-(19)" And after that "NTLDR is missing".
  18. Yes, I do.
  19. I just said that I don't have a floppy drive, but I'll do the same thing on cd and it should work to, right? EDIT: I created a XPCD with slipstreamed SATA drivers, but then Setup skips the first window where you can select "recovery console" and goes to next step where you are supposed to choose a HDD for format Why the hell does it skip the first window for? EDIT2: I did as you told me to svasutin and it didn't work. I suppose that you gotta have some kind of boot image to be able to boot from cd. What now? I guess that the only thing that's left is to reinstall windows, or do you have any other ideas?
  20. I see, well it's probably because you have a controller that is detected upon startup and doesn't need drivers. Unfortunately, not all controllers are like that. I know for certain that my (Silicon Image) and the Intel - controllers require drivers. Well, I'm on my way creating a cd with slipstreamed drivers right now. I'll be done in approx. 15 min so I'll let you know. Thanks a lot for helping me out interminded
  21. What SATA controller do you have?
  22. Copy the NTLDR file from a working Windows XP (or 2003) computer to the floppy. I just said that I don't have a floppy disk, meaning that I don't have a floppy drive at all.
  23. No, I don't have a floppy and I did not do a BIOS tweak. When you boot into the repair console, the HDD that you want to fix has to be visible right? Well, mine isn't because it's SATA which means that they need drivers. I guess I'll use raskrens method here to throw in the SATA drivers onto the XP cd so that my SATA HDD is seen. Or am I wrong?
  24. Hi Guys! I turned off my computer last night and it worked fine. When I woke up and turned on my computer, it says "NTLDR is missing". Whatta hell?! I have a SATA 200 GB HDD. What should I do? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Marthax
