I am seeing SideBySide errors in my System Log with the latest SW and Flash installs. Has anyone else seen these? Attached is a screen shot. Thanks, John.

cockroachrhea, I use only one AddOn, that I created, and it is silent. I suspect that most if not all are silent. Some integrate the application into the source as nLite does SPs and hot fixes. Some run out of SVCPACK at T-13. In any case again, I think they will be silent. AddOns are placed into the hot fix section of nLite and are processed appropriately. RyanVM forum is a good source for AddOn information as the sub-forum above. I have not looked at Sp0iLedBrAt's link, but the bad thing about installers in general is there is no consistent switch definition that all adhere. The main thing is give some of these things a try. I also recommend that you look into a virtual system for testing. VirtualPC, VirtualBox and Vmware Server are all free. If you have problems, please post back and, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

B4rT, please note that Volatus has been banned, for what reason I have no clue. If you need help, describe your problem and, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. It would be best if you opened a new topic. Enjoy, John.

Asmo, very interesting that some tech support is recommending nLite. What is the source CD you are using? Do you have a legal Windows copy and a valid key? If you have more problems, please give us more information. Have you set your BIOS correctly concerning your new HDD? Have you installed text mode drivers for your SATA drive. You install these using F6 when not using nLite and can include them with nLite and not use F6, in fact you cannot use F6 with nLite unless you disable OEM Preinstall on the Unattended-General tab. If you have more trouble using nLite, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

rollingrock, thanks for the report - glad you are running. What I do is copy my CD into a folder. When I want to run nLite, I then copy the folder contents into a working folder. Enjoy, John.

rollingrock, here is my two cents worth, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

daperson, welcome to nLite. Attached are screen shots of the Task Selection and the Bootable ISO screens. When you see the first, check Create Bootable ISO. After the others steps are complete, the second screen will appear. Select the options you desire then click the Make ISO button, not the Next button. If you have more problems/questions, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

HowdyDoody, I will need to look some more but I suspect you have Disabled some service you need. You can test this (on your running system) by going to MMC-Services and set them to Manual and Start them. I would suggest that you begin by doing this to about half the services you have disabled (4 in Last Session.) You may need to reboot to see the result. If that does not help, after doing the other half, set all your modified services to Automatic and Start them and see if that fixes it (reboot also). We can narrow it down later. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John. EDIT:You need to remove"Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process" tweak, as it exposes a Windows bug. I don't think it has anything to do with your camera problem. How are you connecting your camera? If you are using Wi-Fi, then you need to start the wireless service(s) you have stopped. The only service I see as a candidate is HidServ - try starting it. John.

AngelRayne, although I agree with g-force, I would go ahead and include KB953356. I seem to remember that others have had problems with this and nLite. I would also comment that as I understand this problem, it is an MS goof-up - releasing an Intel CPU driver in SP3 even on AMD processors. Please let us know what you learn so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

Kurt_Aust, OK, thanks - figured it out. Since I do not use and do not intend to use Firefox (or any of those others), I selected Internet Explorer. When this is done, it does not DL the installer. It simply installs SW. There is no DL dialog offering to Run or Save. Please give it a try and you will see what I see. I don't see why I should be forced by Adobe to install a player plug-in for browsers I have not intention of using. If it was not such a trivial matter, I would expend a little more vitriol on the poor Adobe technical support guy. Thanks, John.

phryder, thanks for your very complete explanation of your results. When a file is copied the read only attribute can be removed. See the Help and Support information on xcopy. By default it removes the read only attribute. Thanks, John.

quest221, if you want us to consider this a problem, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

HowdyDoody, certainly don't have a guess without your Last Session, so, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

Kurt_Aust, after a surprisingly few replies and some, but little, vitriol (from me), Adobe support came up with this link for the full installer. It is still a direct DL. I do not understand your instructions. When I go to your link, to begin with I cannot select Firefox and IE. The drop list only allows selecting one. When I click 'Agree and Install', it installs SW and ask for a restart. I have no chance to grab the installer. Weird! Thanks and enjoy, John.

zZolaa, please answer my question about running nLite multiple times against the same source folder and integrating only one SP. I am having trouble getting any traction on this problem, partly because I am running XP x64 and it seems to be somewhat different. Are you getting many of these error messages in Syslog? Would you be happy with simply stopping the messages? Do you get any message presented to you? If so, please open Process Explorer and determine the process and parent producing the message. If you open Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc), via Run dialog and look at Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Application Compatibility, do you find the last one? (I copied this from Black Viper's site.) I suspect not, but if you do you maybe able to configure it there. For some reason, it does not show up on my VM (with nLited XP x64) but does on my host (which I am not willing to experiment with). Have you solved this problem? If and when you do, please let us know. Enjoy, John.

Sotcr, I would not add a hot fix to a source that already had nLite run against it. Just use the same Last Session file (C:\Program Files\nLite\Presets has all of them, date coded) and add the hot fix and run again. It will take a little longer but you get a good ISO out of the deal. There are some hot fixes that will not integrate via nLite. Windows Update will say they are not there, but I am not sure if installing is OK, or a possible problem. I would not, and do not, do it. I am running XP x64 and several hot fixes do not integrate, so I installed them from a batch file run out of RunOnce of the nLite Unattended section. I think RyanVM Update Packs are a way to avoid these problems. I do not use them, so I cannot be sure. Enjoy, John.
-
Sotcr, don't know what you mean by 'now'. I think that search update is optional and can be added at anytime, if you want it. There can be many varied and bizarre symptoms from running nLite more than once on the same source. I did it back when and saw missing Quick Launch folder, Windows logo on my Desk Top unsolicited and other strange behavior. Many users have come here with strange problems that were fixed by simply running only one pass of nLite. If you have a virtual system to test under, give it a try and see what happens. The real problem is that I suspect no one (with the possible exception of nuhi) can tell us what sequence works and what does not. I tell people to avoid it, instead of trying to figure out what happened. Enjoy, John.
-
Sotcr, yes the hot fixes have to be presented to nLite in the correct order. One way to do this is to go to the RyanVM forum and look at the Update Packs. You can use the pack or simply use the included update list to determine the correct order. I asked Booogy about nLite, WMP11 Slipstreamer and his tweaks. There is no way to select the tweaks when you use the Slipstreamer in nLite. However, you can do one of two things. Run WMP11 Slipstreamer on your fresh source, selecting the tweaks you like, then run nLite for all your other changes, against the same source. Run WMP11 Slipstreamer against your fresh source and then copy and save the wmp.in_ from your source I386 folder. Then the next time you want to run nLite, run it against a fresh source and before you make an ISO, replace the wmp.in_ in your I386 folder with the one you saved before. WMP11 and its updates would be part of this nLite run. I am going to try method 2 the next time I build an install package. This may be too much trouble for you and I am sure running WMP11 Slipstreamer before nLite will be OK - I used this before nLite did it automatically. Just please don't get convinced that you can run nLite several more times against the same source. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I am in the middle of #2 above, and I think it would be much easier and simpler to run WMP11 Slipstreamer against your fresh source and simply make this your new 'fresh' source for all future nLite runs. John.

quest221, just because the KB is 250 MB, does not mean that your HDD space will increase that much. I think this is an upgrade to .Net 3.5. If you don't feel you need to upgrade, then don't install it. Here is the MS article describing what is in the update. If you are a heavy user of .NET and need the function/fixes in this KB, then you should probably install it, but only you can make the decision. I am running 3.5, but I tend to keep my system up to date. Enjoy, John.

Kurt_Aust, I tried your Shockwave link and got the page that will do an Online install. How do I get the actually installer DLed? I guess I am really dense - have been wrestling with this problem with SW and Flash for a long time. Thanks, John.
-
zZolaa, I was afraid of that. Later, John.
-
zZolaa, I will see what I can learn, sounds tough. I was not suggesting that you use the fix I linked to on a permanent basis, just to confirm that you had the problem narrowed. I find it very frustrating fixing a bug only to discover I was chasing the wrong bug. I'll let you know if I come up with anything. Enjoy, John. EDIT: have you tried to Disable 'Application Experience Lookup Service', in the MMC Services panel? John.
-
Sotcr, I am looking and will get back to you. Enjoy, John.
-
b3l, you are welcome. It can be overwhelming at times. I recommend sticking at it with searches and reading plus asking questions here. Enjoy, John.
-
Sotcr, I would discourage it. You may get away with it but who knows. What is wrong with using the Last Session and rerunning nLite with a few more updates? Enjoy, John.
