  1. The it-works-in-Linux argument is perfectly valid here. But a Windows bug is a Windows bug - you can't just recompile the kernel. Also, happy new year!
  2. I facepalmed so hard right now. The mouse wasn't working because it was connected to a USB hub, not directly to a USB root port. Same thing happened with a USB keyboard in Linux. After setup, same thing - directly to motherboard, mouse works; via hub, mouse doesn't work. I have no idea why this is happening. Any suggestions? And it's not a hardware problem, since I pop in a Knoppix livecd and everything works.
  3. So basically, stock XP with F6-floppy drivers merged? Disable Free Space requirement. It's in the Setup options task. Error Reporting.
  4. Halfway through 'Installing Devices', USB dies again. It wasn't the drivers. Also, thanks for the typo fix. It _was_ GTM, I just missed the M. Last_Session.ini
  5. The source is from MSDN. I have a MSDN subscription and downloaded it from there. AMDAway is a driver for Cool'n'Quiet support. The drivers were downloaded from MSI's download page for the 785GT-E45 motherboard.
  6. Weird stuff... USB mouse works until GUI-install does driver install and the GUI-install screen displays. Anyways, Last_session is attached. The driver install that's causing the problem is probably the ATI drivers... The ones I'm merging are: AMDAway (unlikely) ATI drivers (probably) Realtek HDA (unlikely) Realtek LAN (unlikely) What in Last_session is causing ATI drivers to kill USB HID input stack? Last_Session.ini
  7. Nope, still no usb mouse when nLited under XP.
  8. /starts vmware Also, there are no error messages. I'm just comparing the nLited install disc to the resulting C:\WINDOWS.
  9. The source I'm using now is MSDN XP SP3 Pro VLK. HID UPS works, but mouse support is still fail. Not all of the files from nLited i386\driver.cab get extracted to \system32 and \system32\drivers though, e.g. hidserv.dll, hidgame.sys . Last_Session.ini
  10. It'll involve creating a VMware install of XP for nLiting purposes (which isn't new - I've done it in ubuntu and gentoo numerous times). The source had SP3 included, and the mouse uses the standard HID stack - it works in Linux and on my Vista x64 laptop. There were no yellow triangles in devmgmt.msc when the mouse was plugged in, leaving me to the conclusion that nLite somehow crippled the HID stack. But nLite doesn't like extracted XP CDs on VMware HGFS shared drives...
  11. I've unchecked 'Windows CE USB Host', and the two files are still missing, even when they're listed in the "Keep Files" list.
  12. arhidfltr.sys, hidserv.dll are missing the rest are found Should I manually add those entries to the "Keep Files" list?
  13. I connect a usb mouse via hub. Device Manager detects a USB HID device, but when I move my mouse, the cursor does not change. Last_Session.ini
  14. On my laptop, the wifi button should enable and disable the radio, yet when I press it, nothing happens. There is also a yellow question mark in Device Manager for "SM Bus Controller" nLite .ini follows: [Main] Env = 1.4.6 - 2.0.50727.1433.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 15. To clarify, /proc is a dynamically loaded virtual folder loaded by the kernel on startup, allowing usage of stdio.h read/write commands to virtual files to communicate with the kernel and its loaded drivers. So, would HKLM\HARDWARE be like /proc, but instead of stdio.h, win32.h is used for the registry read/write commands to communicate with the drivers? (I have no clue if driver<->user communication via HKLM\HARDWARE is covered in ntddk docs. probably is, but I'm not sure)
